5 FOOD AWARDS The Perth Royal Food Awards (PRFA) have become an important part of the agricultural industry in WA. An initiative of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA, the PRFA s are rapidly expanding, with new competitions and categories being released in 2018 based on consumer and industry trends. ENTRY CONDITIONS COMPLETION OF ENTRIES $80.00 per entry $20.00 per entry $30.00 per entry 4.1 All classes and subclasses shall be open to Beer; Producers (both Commercial and Non- Commercial or Amateur Brewers), herein after called Exhibitors, for competition according to the conditions applicable to the respective beer producer. 4.2 An Exhibitor in this section shall mean a Person, Partnership, Association, Co-operative, Company or Corporate Body who or which in the opinion of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA (RASWA), manufactures beer or has beer manufactured for him/her or it is for the purpose of sale by wholesale or by retail under the name or preferred business name of Exhibitor as stated in the application for entry. 4.3 Entries must be made using the online entry facility and must be submitted by the closing date and be accompanied by the applicable entry fee for each class or subclass Exhibitors must state: a) The class and subclass to be competed for; b) Style Guideline, including Base Beer Style: Commercial Section - Brewers Association Style Guidelines and Amateur Section - Australian Amateur Brewing Championship Style Guidelines; c) Name of product (brand or trade name); d) If the product is filtered; e) Number of containers per entry; f) Size of container entered; g) Alcohol content of entry; h) Special requirements; 4.4 There is no limit to the number of entries an Exhibitor can enter provided each entry is a different beer product. 4.5 TRANSFERS: THERE WILL BE NO TRANSFERS MADE BY EXHIBITORS OR STEWARDS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. It is the Exhibitors responsibility to enter the correct beer in the correct class and subclass. 4.6 STYLE GUIDELINES: For Commercial beer style guidelines see page 12. DISQUALIFICATION: No entry will be received from any person or persons disqualified by this or any other similar Society during the period of such disqualification. Should any such entry be accepted it shall, when discovered, be deemed void and the entry fee and beer shall be forfeited, and other affiliated Beer Show Societies notified. 6. SECTIONS 6.1 Commercial Section: This Section is open to all commercial beers brewed in Australia. The product must be commercially available i.e. can be purchased from one or more licensed outlets The brand owner or licensed user of the brand must submit the entry. 6.2 Amateur Section: This Section is restricted to amateur brews; that is beers that have not been brewed on premises licensed as a commercial brewery. Beers produced from extract kits and wort kits and brew on premises beers are accepted as they are not considered to be commercially brewed. There is no minimum brew length. 6.3 Entries must be submitted under the contact name. Exhibitors entering under the Amateur Section; must feature a beer name no longer than six (6) words. Entry names over this length, or entry names submitted with profane language will not be accepted. 7. EXHIBIT QUANTITIES 7.1 Draught Beer classes or subclasses: Each draft beer entry is to consist of not less than 10lt and be in an appropriate container, cask or keg. 7.2 It is preferable that all draught entries are submitted in 10lt kegs. 7.3 Packaged Beer classes or subclasses: Each packaged beer entry to consist of not less than: Commercial Section: Carton or cube. Amateur Section: Three (3) bottles, with a total minimum of 1.98 Litres. It can be in cans, PET containers, sealed or corked bottles. 7

LABELLING OF EXHIBITS 8.1 Exhibits are to bear the labels provided by RASWA for that purpose; and must show: a) The year of competition; b) The number of the class and subclass; c) Exhibit number; d) Class and subclass name; e) Entries can be exhibited in either unbranded or branded bottles, crown seals or corks. Canned entries and PET containers will also be accepted. 9. DELIVERY OF EXHIBITS 9.1 Notification will be sent to all Exhibitors after the close of entries regarding delivery instructions. 9.2 EXHIBITS MUST BE RECEIVED between 10.00am and 4.00pm on Monday 25 or Tuesday 26 June Upon arranging delivery of exhibits by courier please advise them NOT to deliver prior to these dates as they will not be accepted. Please be aware of this when sending exhibits by post. INSPECTION OF EXHIBITS 11.1 In all classes and subclasses the exhibit, as stated on the entry form, may be inspected and checked by a representative of RASWA and/or nominee All exhibits must conform to the respective Acts of the States and the Commonwealth of Australia, which govern the production of Australian Beer, the Food Standard Codes and the Health Act and Regulations RASWA reserves the right to have any exhibit inspected and/or analysed to verify that it meets the relevant conditions for the class (e.g. reduced alcohol) in which it was exhibited, and that the beer held by the Exhibitor represents the exhibit provided for judging. 12. DISPOSAL OF EXHIBITS 12.1 All exhibits of beer become the property of RASWA. 13. JUDGING 13.1 Judging will commence on Sunday 1 July All Judges (including the Chief Judge) shall not at any time prior to the announcement of the awards have any access as to the identity of the exhibits All beers will be judged together Each Judges panel, under the direction of the Chief Judge, shall judge their allotted classes and subclasses and complete a score/feedback sheet for those classes and subclasses. The Chief Judge shall have the points totalled and re-checked. An independent person nominated by RASWA will confirm the results to determine the awards Judges will not have access to exhibits apart from the glass of each placed in front of them by the section Stewards All Exhibitors shall accept the final decision of RASWA and the Judges The Chief Judge shall have the power to disqualify or dismiss as being not eligible for judging any exhibit which, in his/her opinion, does not comply with the regulations in every respect, and such disqualification shall be accepted as final Exhibits will be judged on points as follows: APPEARANCE... 11 13.10 To determine Trophy Awards where more than one (1) class or subclass is involved only the highest pointed awarded beer(s) from each class or subclass will be eligible Awards will be withheld in any class or subclass where exhibits are considered unworthy Beer Results Catalogues will be available at a cost of $10.00 (incl. GST), and can be collected at the Exhibitors Tasting or the RASWA Administration office Individual Judges results will not be made available to exhibitors. An aggregate score sheet and feedback sheets will be supplied Special Trophies: Champion Small Brewery Champion Large Brewery Best Amateur Brewer Best New Exhibitor The top four (4) scoring entries only, from an Exhibitor will be used to calculate the Special Trophies. The Brewer must enter a minimum of four (4) exhibits to be eligible. Points will be awarded as follows: Gold Award Silver Award Bronze Award Participation 5 points 3 points 1 point 0 points The Chief Judge, in consultation with the Chief Steward and Councillor in Charge may at their absolute discretion decline to make an Award in any class or subclass. Awards may be withheld in any class or subclass where exhibits are considered unworthy or where the Chief Judge, Chief Steward and Councillor in Charge for any reason and at their absolute discretion decide that an award shall be withheld A Trophy maybe awarded to a Silver Award winning exhibit if a Gold Award is not awarded for that class or subclass. This would be at the discretion of the Chief Judge and the Councillor In Charge In the case of a Trophy tie, the Chief Judge in consultation with the panel leaders will reassess the exhibits and determine one (1) winner. 14. AWARDS 14.1 Winners of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in each class will be awarded with Certificates and the right to use the Perth Royal Food Awards medal artwork on their winning products Award winners are expected to collect their award or arrange for the collection by their Agent at the Awards Presentation. If RASWA is required to mail trophy awards, the cost will be the responsibility of the trophy winner. RASWA will not be responsible for storing the awards after the Awards Presentation or Exhibitors Tasting Gold Medal winners may be approached to provide promotional stock free of charge to be showcased at the Awards Presentation. 15. ADVERTISING AND DISPLAY OF AWARDS 15.1 Producers will not use medals, stickers, symbols or other devices on a bottle or soft pack in order to misleadingly convey the impression that the beer has received an award at an open, objective and independent competition Awards received by an individual beer will bear the year of Award and the name of the Competition: Perth Royal Beer Awards and as a general rule shall only be applied to beer bearing the name under which the exhibit was entered. However, in recognition that a beer could be entered in a Show before a beer has been finally allocated to a brand, portability of an award so that it can stay with the beer which won it shall be permitted providing the Perth Royal Beer Show conditions allow Awards received by a class of beer (e.g. Champion Large Brewery") shall not be used to suggest the individual beer has received any particular distinction. These awards will not be presented on crown sealed and corked bottles, cans and PET containers in the form of a medal The use of gold discs, silver discs and bronze discs to promote anniversaries, events, sponsorship and the like, must not be used. Stickers and symbols or other devices should be sufficiently differentiated from show medals in terms of shape and/or colour to ensure no confusion. It is recognised that identification stickers attached to a bottle for beer not intended for resale, such as supplied to airlines, may fall outside the control of the producer An Exhibitor shall not advertise or allow to be advertised by any means whatsoever and in particular by broadcasting, television, pictorially, or in writing, the fact that any exhibit has won an award at the Perth Royal Food Awards unless such advertisement shows clearly: i. The name Perth Royal Beer Awards; ii. The year of the award; iii. The class or subclass in which the award was won; iv. The type of beer Awards will be announced at an event to be announced in July

12 15.6 Any Exhibitor making improper use of Awards won at the 2018 Perth Royal Beer Awards for advertising purposes may be disqualified from any future Perth Royal Beer Awards. 16. EXHIBITOR'S TASTING 16.1 An Exhibitors Tasting will be held on a date to be advised in July Two (2) entry tickets will be supplied to each Exhibitor. Please Note: The tickets will be sent to the contact name on the entry form unless RASWA receives other instructions. Please keep in a safe place as ticket numbers are limited and cannot be replaced due to loss. 17. RETURN OF EMPTY KEGS 17.1 All kegs are to be collected from the Silver Jubilee Pavilion, Claremont Showground between 9.00AM and 4.00PM from TUESDAY 17 to WEDNESDAY 18 JULY 2018 INCLUSIVE. Please note that kegs not collected within these dates will become the property of RASWA Interstate Exhibitors: Once notified, Exhibitors must collect their kegs from the SCT warehouse in their state within seven (7) days Please ensure your kegs have a distinguishing symbol or name to ease with collection Exhibitors in draught classes are responsible for the return of their empty containers, casks or kegs after judging and must make their own arrangements for return if required. All costs associated with the return of the containers, casks or kegs are the responsibility of the Exhibitor. 10

14 JUDGING CRITERIA: Total maximum 20 points Design (maximum 10 points) Strong idea behind the design concept. Design concept is successfully executed graphically. A discernible point of difference to the brands competitive set. Design reflects the product positioning and price point (premium/mainstream/niche). Shelf appeal - does the label have impact on the shelf. Visual Communication (maximum 5 points) Brand name is clear and memorable. Region of origin and other relevant information is clearly visible and logically presented. Back label reflects the qualities of the front label. Do the design elements and typography communicate clearly. Overall Package (maximum 5 points) Consideration for the combination of label, bottle. Choice of glass appropriate in shape and colour. Creativity and innovation in print techniques. Class 1 Packaging and Design STYLE GUIDELINES - COMMERCIAL For the Commercial Sections beer style guidelines (2018 Brewers Association Beer Style Guideline) please visit: RASWA would like to acknowledge and thank Charlie Papazian and Paul Gatza from the Brewers Association for permission to use these guidelines. In addition to the above styles the guidelines for Australian Style Beers are: AUSTRALIAN STYLE LAGER: Light/straw to amber in colour (less than 15 EBC). Aroma is generally comprised of low to medium esters, predominantly fruity. A subtle to moderate hop aroma and taste may be perceived. Bitterness ranges from low to medium, noble hop character should not be present. Residual malt/sugar sweetness should be low with a light to medium body. A medium to high carbonation and clean palate provide a crisp finish. Diacetyl and chill haze should not be present. Low levels of DMS can be present in pale lagers. Original Gravity ( Plato): ( Plato) Apparent Extract/Final Gravity ( Plato): ( Plato) Alcohol by Weight (Volume): % ( %) Bitterness (IBU): Color SRM (EBC): ( EBC) NEW WORLD STYLE LAGER: New World Lagers showcase New World hop varieties in traditional Lager Style therefore entrants in this class need to clearly state the lager style used to make the base beer (e.g. Bock, Bohemian Pilsner). Colour will vary depending on base beer style. Hop aroma and flavour intensity will depend on base beer style however New World hop character should be perceivable. Chill haze should not be perceived. Residual malt aroma and flavour intensity will depend on the base beer style. Very low levels of DMS aroma are acceptable. Fruityester and diacetyl flavours should not be perceived. Body is light to medium. Original Gravity ( Plato): Varies with style Apparent Extract/Final Gravity ( Plato): Varies with style Alcohol by Weight (Volume): Varies with style Bitterness (IBU): Varies with style Color SRM (EBC): Varies with styles NEW WORLD STYLE PALE ALE: New World Pale Ales are golden to light brown in colour and exhibit New World hop characteristics. Chill haze is allowable at cold temperatures. Low caramel malt aroma is allowed. Low to medium maltiness is present. Low caramel malt flavour is allowable. Hop aroma is low to high. Hop flavour is medium to high and can be produced by a wide range of hop characters that are unlike those typical of fruity, floral, citruslike or other American-variety characters, nor earthy, herbal English-varieties. Hop bitterness is medium to high. Fruityester flavour and aroma should be low to high. Diacetyl should be absent or present at very low levels. DMS should not be present. Body is light to medium. 18 GENERAL SHOW REGULATIONS The Society s General Show Regulations and Section Conditions regulate the conduct of the Show. Upon acceptance of an entry the Exhibitor is irrevocably contracted to be bound by those General Show Regulations and Section Conditions. A copy of the Society s General Show Regulations may be obtained on application or downloaded from the website An Exhibitor who breaches any General Show Regulation or Section Condition may be disqualified, or suspended for any period, fined or otherwise penalised. The Society may recognise and act upon any penalty imposed by any other similar Society, organisation or body in Australia on any person or exhibit. WITHDRAWAL OF EXHIBIT BY THE SOCIETY The Society may, at its sole discretion, withdraw, reject or disqualify an exhibit. Refer to the Society s General Show Regulation AWARDS The Society will not be responsible for awards not received by Exhibitors after 31 December If you have not received your award by 30 November 2018, please contact the Awards Officer on (08) SOCIETY S LIABILITY The Society does not accept any liability for loss, damages or injury however caused. The attention of Exhibitors is drawn to General Show Regulation 17. Liability and Indemnity, with reference to the Society's Liability. PROMOTION No advertising or promotion on behalf of commercial business will be permitted on the Showground without the prior written consent of the Society s Chief Executive Officer. PRIVACY ACT STATEMENT The information provided by the Exhibitor in the application for entry is collected and used by the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia (RASWA) to organise and conduct Competitions at the Show. We may publish details such as your name, address and exhibit details in any RASWA publication or communication. Such information may also be made available to, and published by, the media. We will not disclose your information without your consent for any other purpose unless required or authorised by law. You may request access to your personal information and, if necessary, request that our records of that information be corrected by writing to the Chief Executive Officer at the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia, PO Box 135, Claremont WA

19 GENERAL SHOW REGULATION 17. LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY (Extract from the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia General Show Regulations - Revised 22 August 2007) 17.1 Exhibitor Accepts The lodgement of an Application of Entry form shall be deemed to be acknowledgment by the Exhibitor of his or her agreement that the Societyshall be under no liability for: No Liability for animals or birds Exhibited The loss, injury or death of any animal, (including birds) Exhibited, whether caused by, or attributable to, the negligence of the Society, or of its servants or Agent, or otherwise howsoever No Liability for property Exhibited Any loss or damage occasioned to or by any property Exhibited, whether caused by, or attributable to, the negligence of the Society,or of its servants or Agent, or otherwise howsoever No Liability for other animals, property, Exhibitor or general public Any injury or damage occasioned to any other animal or property Exhibited, or to any other Exhibitor, or to the general public, whether caused by, or attributable to, the negligence of the Society, or of its servants or Agent, or otherwise howsoever No Liability for contracting any disease or suffering animals or birds Any loss or damage suffered by any Exhibitor as a result of any disease contracted or suffered by any animals (including birds) after, or as a consequence of any animal Exhibits, or their progeny, being brought onto the Showground No Liability for livestock sales The Society and the Auctioneers of Royal Show Livestock Sales shall be under no liability to any Owner or purchaser of livestock (whether exhibited or otherwise) entered for sale or sold at any Royal Show Livestock Sale No Liability for livestock auctioned In respect of any loss or injury to such livestock; whether such loss or injury be caused by or be attributable to, the negligence of the Auctioneers specified in the Regulations relating to the Royal Show Livestock Sales or to the Society or any of its servants or Agents No Liability for other livestock, property, Exhibitor or general public For any injury or damage occasioned to any other livestock or property, or to any other Exhibitor, or to the general public, whether caused by, or attributable to, the negligence of the Auctioneers specified in the Regulations relating to the Royal Show Livestock Sales or to the Society or any of its servants or Agents No Liability for consequential loss and loss of profits For any loss or damage (including without limitation consequential loss and loss of profits) suffered by any Owner or purchaser of livestock as a result of any disease contracted or suffered by any livestock after, or as a consequence of any livestock being entered for sale, at any Royal Show Livestock Sale Exhibits sold privately Where any animal Exhibited, or any other Exhibit, is sold privately during the time of the Royal Show the vendor thereof shall indemnify the Society against all liability to the purchaser in respect of any loss, injury, disease or damage to such animal or other Exhibit, whether such loss, injury, disease or damage be caused by or attributable to the negligence of the Society or any of its servants or Agents Accidents and Incidents Competitors, Exhibitors and Attendants must report promptly to the Society all accidents and incidents causing or likely to cause injury to persons or damage to property Trade Practices Act To the extent that any matter relating to entry or remaining upon the Showground relates to the supply of goods or services by the Society within the meaning of s. 68A of the Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cwlth), the Society s liability is limited as follows: (a) (b) in case of goods, the replacement, repair or payment for the replacement or repair of the goods. in the case of services, the re-supply of the services or the cost of the re-supply of the services. It shall be in the Society s absolute discretion as to whether it replaces, repairs or pays for replacement or repair of goods. It shall be further in the Society s discretion as to whether it re-supplies or pays the cost of re-supply or services Indemnity To the maximum extent permitted by law, each Competitor and Exhibitor must indemnify and keep indemnified the Society and its officers, employees, members and Agents from and, against all actions, claims, demands, losses, damages, costs, expenses and liabilities including without limitation, consequential loss and loss of profits for which the Society is or may be become liable in respect of or arising from: (a) (b) (c) loss, damage or injury to any person in connection with the Exhibit or the relevant Event; without limiting sub-regulation (a) loss, damage or injury to any other Exhibit or Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees, Agents, or to the property of the Society, or its members, or to the general public, caused or contributed to or by any act or omission of an Exhibit of the Exhibitor or by the Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees or Agents; and without limiting sub-regulation (a) loss, damage or injury to the Exhibit, or the Exhibitor, his or her family, invitees, or Agents caused or contributed by an act or omission of an Exhibit of the Exhibitor or by the transportation, feeding or housing of an Exhibit of the Exhibitor Removal of Exhibit Without prejudice to any other provision of these Regulations, where the Society, its officers, employees, members or Agents remove an Exhibit, or causes an Exhibit to be removed from the Showground, the Exhibit is removed or caused to be removed entirely at the risk of the Exhibitor. The person or persons removing the Exhibit will be deemed to be the Agent of the Exhibitor, and his or her acts and omissions will be deemed to be 17 the acts and omissions of the Exhibitor.
