4 The main activity objective is: extraction, processing and trade of salt There are 3 major product categories as a result of extraction and processing of salt: Rock Salt Recrystallized salt Brine

5 An important place in the production of the society is represented by iodized salt The process of iodization is made by treating the salt with potassium iodate in 2 ways: Wet method Dry method Monitoring of the iodized salt: Internal control own laboratory of the salt work External control Ministry of Health

6 The nutrients supplementation (vitamins and minerals) of the food products is regulated at national level in all the European states. These were applied still now in all the 25 states of the Union. Regarding the fluorine supplementation, in present there is used one of the two possibility of regulation: the edible salt fluoridation is generally permitted;; the edible salt fluorination implies an individual authorisation regarding the production and the commercialisation The edible fluorinated salt is produced in the following European states: Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland (Fig. 1). In these states the fluorination is voluntary, so the consumer can choose. In Netherlands the fluorinated salt is produced only for export. Thus, the fluorinated salt is present in all markets, due to the expansion of the market chain, as are Aldi, Lidl, which sell fluorinated salt in: Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece, France, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Portugal, and Switzerland. Some examples are showed in Fig. number2.

8 The fluorination of the foods should be limited to the products which were fortified until now, such as: salt, water, chewing gum The fluorination should be limited to the edible salt (used in households) The optimal concentration of the fluorine in salt should be 250 mg/kg;; A health advertising: The fluorine helps to prevent tooth cavity;; Warning: flurinated salt is used, the supplement with fluorine content and the fluorine tablets, should be avoided Purity criteria for fluorine is necessary.

9 In Romania the research in order to obtain a sort of special table salt with content of fluorine, calcium, magnesium and iodine, started in The aim is the better utilisation of the salt produced in the salt mine and also to obtain a new product taking into account the composition To complete the necessary salts for the body it is possible to use salt additivation with Ca, Mg, K, I, F. Very important is a strict determination of the quantity for each element, in order to preserve the equilibrium between them. In order to obtain the product: iodised salt with was chosen: F as Calcium Fluoride, Ca as Calcium Carbonate, Mg as Magnesium Carbonate, K as Potassium Chloride and I as Potassium Iodate.

10 In the pilot research stage, based on the laboratory obtained data and the stability tests, a prescription was developed with the following components: NaCl (concentration > 95%), CaCO3, MgCO3, KCl, CaF2, dextrose. The preparation was performed in a discontinuous flux, by successive dilutions, to produce a new homogenous product, designed to answer to some population demands and to develop superiorly the extracted and prepared salt from Romanian salt mines. In present the product is homologated and sanitary notified.
