1 January 14, 2014 Press Release THE VILLAGE 2014 experience the world of whisky: The second Nuremberg Whisk(e)y Fair now has more exhibitors, increased exhibition area and a diverse supporting program Whisky competence pure: On March 1-2, 2014, over 50 exhibitors will be presenting 600 different whiskeys from 12 countries / THE VILLAGE captured the hearts of whisky fans / After the premier with 15,000 visitors, the event organisers are now aiming for the next record / Supporting program with live music, presentations and tastings, cooking shows with Chris Pepper the whisky cook Villiger cigar lounge, culinary specialities, Scottish and Irish lifestyle / prominent personalities from the whisky scene will give the trade fair a unique flavour. Nuremberg it was a huge challenge for the event organisers of the first Nuremberg Whisky Fair THE VILLAGE to successfully establish this new event within the ranks of already established whisky fairs. However, event organiser AFAG-Messegesellschaft created a

2 2 convincing concept for the premier at the beginning of March 2013, which meant that they were able to capture the hearts of whisky fans. Using the stylised village (hence the name THE VILLAGE) with shops, a pub, cottage house and Irish and Scottish decorations, a unique atmosphere was created which enthused visitors and exhibitors alike. Partners to the event with a huge amount of whisky competence played a significant role in making the premier a success. They supported the event organisers with their huge amount of experience in everything to do with whisky and optimum contacts to the whisky scene. Right from the very start with 15,000 visitors THE VILLAGE catapulted itself to the top of the German whisky fairs. Neither the event organisers nor the exhibitors reckoned with such a wide appeal. This was reflected in the fact that already on the first day of the fair, they had to replenish stocks as a result of the storm of visitors. After this convincing premier, news got around quickly in the whisky scene that it certainly paid off to visit Nuremberg. THE VILLAGE will be even bigger and more diverse when it opens its doors on March 1 and 2, 2014 When the Nuremberg Whisky Fair THE VILLAGE opens its doors on March 1 and 2, 2014, visitors to Hall 12 can look forward to experiencing the fascinating world of whisky with a unique ambience. With over 50 exhibitors, increased exhibition area and an outstanding selection of about 600 different whiskeys from 12 countries, THE VIL- LAGE is on course for expansion and is bigger and more diverse than ever before. After the outstanding success of the first event, the organisers are expecting a record number of visitors in The event organisers are placing special emphasis on entry regulations, where the age of visitors is carefully checked. This was very well organised and ran smoothly for the first whisky fair. Further, the Nuremberg Whisky Fair will now publish its own newspaper THE VILLAGE. This will be available at no charge at the entrance, and will include interesting facts about the fair itself, the exhibitors as well as some interesting information about whisky as a whole. Optimum supporting conditions for exhibitors and visitors alike Just the same as before, the whisky fair will take place together with the Freizeitmesse (this is a leisure and recreation fair), which can be visited with the same ticket. Both fairs running in parallel proved to be a winning combination at the first event in 2013, where exhibitors were able to win over many new whisky enthusiasts. Many suggestions and recommendations from the first fair have been incorporated in the 2014 event. For instance, more seating will

3 3 be available and separate quiet areas away from the hustle and bustle where people can relax. The Nuremberg Whisky Fair also sets itself apart as a result of the optimum conditions for exhibitors and visitors alike: There is a subway station with a direct connection to Nuremberg city centre, the main train station and the airport right next to the entrance to the whisky fair. It is just a few steps from the entrance to the hall and the taxi stand, and there are numerous hotels close to the exhibition grounds, which can be easily reached with public transport. Further, there are sufficient visitor parking spaces at the Nuremberg exhibition grounds. As a consequence, visitors don't have to go through the tedious process of looking for parking spaces which is the case for many other similar fairs. Exhibitors are very enthusiastic about the generous booths provided by THE VILLAGE with wide aisles and practical stations where glasses and cutlery can be washed. Whisky lovers can find news and interesting information about the fair at the following websites and also in Facebook at Spoilt for choice: From classic whiskeys through rarities up to the exclusive "The Village Limited Edition 2014" Exhibitors include both large and small importers, whisky distilleries and exhibitors with a corresponding portfolio of products and services. Right at the entrance to the fair, every visitor can purchase his own personal glass from the Stölzle Company with the logo of the 2014 whisky fair. With glass in hand, visitors can try out the huge variety of whiskeys available, which makes the fair the ideal platform when it comes to discovering the world of whisky. If you keep your eyes open when strolling from booth to booth, you'll not only see the well-known whiskeys, but also here and there some rare ones. You should take the opportunity and try something completely new. For instance, nip on one of the outstanding Japanese whiskeys or get to know whiskeys distilled in India. The same goes for whiskeys from Swiss and German distilleries. This clearly shows that whisky production is no longer just restricted to classic whisky countries. Visitors can look forward to experiencing a lot of new interesting whiskeys as well as rarities. A small selection is listed below: Exclusive to the fair, there is again a special single malt whisky called "The Village Limited Edition 2014, marketed by Gradls Whiskyfässla. Michael Gradl has announced a Speyside classic, a barrel of Sherry Hogshead, No. 5205, in a limited edition with just 375 bottles. The whisky was distilled in June 2004, and has an alcohol content of 49.4 % by volume. This number precisely corresponds to the latitude of Nuremberg! Michael Gradl will also exclusively present

4 4 the first peaty single malt whiskey from the Lost Spirits Distillery, California at his booth. This will only be available in very limited quantities. At the fair, whisky importer SIERRA MADRE will exhibit two bourbon whiskeys from James E. Pepper dating back to 1776: The two whiskeys called Straight Rye and Straight Bourbon 5 years old will be available for the first time in Germany starting in March, and will be offered at the Nuremberg fair at an attractive price. Whiskey from the Pepper family, which dates back to 1776, is the oldest and most legendary whiskey label in the history of America and the state of Kentucky. For the first time, a small, independent filler from Germany will participate in the fair with WHISKYTALES. The limited number of barrels will only be able to be purchased at fairs such as this and through the website. Two new unprocessed whiskies that have cask alcoholic content will be presented at the Nuremberg Whisky Fair: An unusual 11 year old Bowmore and a 21 year old Longmorn. In Nuremberg, Irisch Lifestyle will present a complete series of new whiskeys. The new Powers Gold Label has a surprising alcohol content of 43.2% and is non-chill filtered. This production technique is generally only used for alcohol contents above 46%. However, in this case, the whiskey truly benefits and returns back to its roots, produced just like it was generations ago. The new Redbreast 21y, presented for the first time on September 26, 2013 in London at a tasting with the Master Blender from Irish Distillers Mr. Billy Leighton. It is matured in a combination of American bourbon barrels and Spanish sherry casks, and it is presently the oldest standard whisky in the portfolio of Irish Distillers. Initially, the availability of this new single pot still will be fairly low, as presently it is only being distilled in very limited quantities. The new Cù Bòcan is the first peated Tomatin! In the Gaulian language, Cù Bòcan (pronounced "Kü Boken") means ghost dog. Cù Bòcan is the new standard brand label from Tomatin, and you can get to know this whisky a little better at the fair. With its Glengoyne 19y Single Cask, Irisch Lifestyle will be presenting another new whiskey. This 19 year old unusual single cask offers a pleasant alcohol content of 46% - ideal for people getting to know whisky and whisky lovers alike who don't like it quite so strong, but like to drink something exclusive. Only 720 bottles were produced, which up until 2012 were exclusively sold in France. Irisch Lifestyle was able to purchase 280 bottles for Germany!

5 5 Other beverages and culinary specialities Other beverages round-off the wide range of whiskeys. These include whisky beers, cider, speciality beers Kilkenny and Guinness - and also other specialities such as Fudges and Shortbread. For those with an appetite, the range of culinary delights has been extended. There are typical specialities from the classic whisky countries, for instance haggis from Scotland and Irish stew. You should also take the opportunity to taste the ham especially cured for the whisky fair with a dash or two of Chieftains single malt whisky. For those wanting to become better acquainted with Scotland, Ireland and England, or wishing to book a special trip to get to know whisky, including visiting distilleries, valuable travel tips can be obtained from a travel organiser who specialises in this type of travel. Kilt maker Duncan MacDonald will also be at the fair offering his services. He is a true Scotsman who lives in Germany and is always in a great mood. Duncan can tailor visitors a bespoke kilt made from a wide selection of high-quality tartan materials. Duncan MacDonald also offers the matching accessories that make up a traditional Scottish costume. A selection of music CDs with traditional Celtic music is also available at his booth. Diverse supporting program, live music and prominent guests from the whisky scene The well-balanced supporting program plays its role in creating the special flair of this fair. Live music will be provided daily by the Heywood folk band. They will musically whisk you off to Ireland with fiddle, guitar and bodhrán. This will provide the backdrop for trying out some Irish dance moves. Irishman Steve Reeves will take turns with Heywood and entertain visitors and the well-known folk band O Malley will also take to the stage. Now and then, the sound of bagpipes can be heard reminding you of Scotland. Well-known personalities from the world of whisky have also said that they will participate. Robin Tucek, owner of Blackadder International, will be at the fair to personally sign his whisky bottles. Ashok Chokalingam, Global Brand Manager of Amrut Distilleries, has also firmly committed to be in Nuremberg. At the premiere in 2013, whisky cook Chris Pepper enthused the visitors with his unique cooking style. He will come to Nuremberg again, and in his show kitchen will demonstrate how tasty dishes are created. He will also explain which whiskeys harmonise especially well with which meals.

6 6 New: Villiger cigar lounge and exclusive edition for the fair Whisky connoisseurs have always known that a good whisky is complemented by a good cigar. The organisers have taken heed of this in the form of a cigar lounge. It is located directly next to the hall in a heated outside area where you are invited to smoke a good cigar. The cigar lounge will be presented by Villiger the Swiss company steeped in tradition. Exclusive for the Nuremburg Whisky Fair, Villiger will come out with a cigar edition with banderole commemorating the whisky fair. The cigars will be individually available in four different sizes (Perla, Corona, Robusto and Churchill) or in a wooden box holding 25 cigars with an attractive motif of THE VILLAGE Whisky Fair. Experts belonging to the whisky scene are supporting the fair organisers with their know-how Those partners with expert knowledge who participated in the first Nuremberg Whisky Fair will also be supporting the organisers of the 2014 event. The Nuremberg Whiskyclub Highland Circle (the oldest whisky club in Germany) is responsible for the whisky presentations, the tastings in the Cottage House and the master class tastings planned in separate facilities. In these presentations, the audience will get to know more about whisky, how it is produced and how this "elixer of life" should be best enjoyed. It will also discuss how to distinguish between the various whiskeys and explain what the most well-known whisky regions are. Michael Gradl from Nuremberg will also support the event organisers with his valuable contacts to the national and international whisky scene and will leverage his whisky experience accumulated over many years. Whisky philosophy and passion for connoisseurs Increasingly more whisky drinkers around the world consider whisky to be a high-quality spirit. As a result of the increased demand around the globe, whisky distilleries have enjoyed excellent revenues in recent years. And it is especially the Scottish whiskeys that have been able to profit the most from this global whisky boom. Scotch whisky is one of the most important industrial sectors in Scotland, and in 2011/2012 had a revenue of 4.23 billion pounds sterling. With this as background information, the 100 or so Scottish whisky distilleries and the corresponding companies play an important role in securing jobs in Scotland. Whisky drinkers are true connoisseurs. They intensively analyze the widest range of nuances when it comes to aromas and tastes of the various whiskeys, engage in shoptalk with their peers and talk about their experience and impressions. Whisky fairs represent an excellent opportunity to establish and maintain contact with other whisky

7 7 lovers and talk about mutual experiences. This means that for two days, the Nuremburg fair will be an important meeting point for whisky clubs both near and far. Special, rare whiskeys that have long disappeared from the general marketplace or those where only small quantities were bottled have stirred the hunter's instinct of collectors and those tracking down rare whiskeys around the world. Not infrequently, people are willing to pay considerable sums for what they have been searching for. This amount can be in the five digit range, especially for old and rare whiskeys. Those who prefer to invest in material assets as a result of the low interest rates in the financial markets should perhaps take a look at rare whiskeys that have the potential to increase in value. It certainly makes sense to also visit the "Freizeit Messe" The whisky fair runs in parallel with the Nuremburg Freizeit Messe (leisure and recreation fair). This is why it makes perfect sense to combine a visit to the whisky fair with a visit to the Freizeit Messe. In the 7 halls of the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre, the Freizeit Messe presents topics such as vacation and travel, houses and gardens, camping and caravanning, outdoor activities.
