2 Manager s Notes No time to get long winded on all that we are doing here at the DLYC, but I want to hit on a few key points: Along with improving every area of operations over the last nine years, the Club Auction held this year on Saturday, August 16 is the single most contributing factor to paying off the Club debt. The Auction Committee and Club Management both thank you and encourage you to support this fun event that helps our Club pay off its debt and plan for the future. To find out how you can both support and contribute to the Auction feel free to contact Pat Muldary or myself. Julie Koehn and Terri Clark will be co chairing our 75th Anniversary plans for the 2015 season. A meeting has been called on July 22, at 7 pm in the boathouse by Terri and Julie for a discussion of events for our 75th Anniversary year. All you need to do is pass the flyer on and our Club staff will take care of greeting and discussing membership options with your potential new member. As most of you know, we currently have reciprocal arrangements with other Yacht Clubs in the ILYC (Interlake Yachting Association). We have just extended this type of agreement to the Lenawee Country Club. Lenawee Country Club members may also use our facilities for up to 3 times, by reservation 24 hours in advance. Both parties have agreed to certain restrictions, depending on availability. 3 July 2014 Auxiliary Report The Auxiliary held their first luncheon/ fashion show June 19th. Devils Lake View Living, owner by Darlene Heller, along with The Buoy at the Lake, owned by Donna Baker, Brent & Monica Mercer did an outstanding job. Terri Clark, Jean Lash, Paula Sagneck, Kathy Day, Mary Miller, Meghan Clark, Mickey Molnar, & Irma David modeled fashions & accessories from the local boutiques. Chuck McAdams, Manager of the DLYC & Staff worked hard to make this a successful event. Thank you to all who donated gifts as well as those who participated in the raffle drawings. We are looking forward to The Tea Party which is back by popular demand. The luncheon will be July 10th 12 p.m. Come 1 come all with your festive hats for a contest of the best for adults & children. Chuck pairs the entrée with flavorful teas. The Auxiliary Dinner Dance will be July 26th which will feature heavy hors d oeuvres along with special cocktails. Bring your dancing shoes for a fun filled evening! There will be a coverage charge of $5 per member who do not partake in the hors d oeuvres. Thank you to all who work hard to make each event a success! All the money we make goes back to the club. Have a happy 4th of July from the DLYC Auxiliary. Warm Regards, Karon Dinius President Letter from the Commodore Dear Members: June is almost over and the July 4th celebration is just around the corner. We are enjoying another successful year and we hope that you continue to let me, Chuck, or any board member know of any suggestions you have to improve our facilities and membership services. By the time you receive this newsletter, we hope to have resolved issues with the docking for those members who come to the club by boat. I would like to remind all members to provide photos for the DLYC website membership directory. We don t need a professional photo and if you have a smartphone, take a selfie and it to the club. If you need any help, call Chuck. One of my responsibilities as commodore is to appoint a nominating committee to provide the board with a list of candidates to fill board positions that are vacant or whose term will expire on 12/31/14. At this point in time, John Decker has agreed to serve as the chairman of the nominating committee. We are in the process of selecting two other members to complete the committee. In the meantime, I ask each of you to consider becoming a board member. I can assure you that being on the DLYC board is a rewarding experience and the future leadership of DLYC will come from those members who are willing to serve. If you are interested in becoming a candidate for a board position, you must be a senior member in good standing. Please check the club bulletin board for names of the nominating committee and let them know that you are interested in a board position. If it is more convenient, simply let Chuck McAdams know of your interest and he will pass it on to the committee. A number of members have introduced themselves to me at the club and I d like to again extend an invitation to those who haven t to do so. In closing, Chuck s message in this newsletter will outline a number of upcoming events. Your attendance at this event will help support the board s ability to continue and improve future activities. Good sailing, safe boating and good times to all! Denis F. Jodis Commodore This past winter our Commodore Denis Jodis had the opportunity to visit the Clearwater Yacht Club in Clearwater Florida. The photo above captures Denis exchanging our Club Burgee with Commodore Tish Wold of the Clearwater Yacht Club. 3 - Devils Lake Yacht Club

7 July Newsletter Fleet Information This year s first month of racing got off to a slow start due mostly to the weather. There was no wind on the first day of racing for the Memorial Day weekend and the participating boats could not even make it to the starting line. As a result, the crews all retired to the club to discuss sailing strategy. The wind was still very light the following day, but three races were able to be run. Bill Rogge and crew emerged as the Memorial Day Series winners. The following Sunday, June 1st, was a great weather day for sailing and all enjoyed four races, two of which were won by Jeff Clemes and crew and the other two of which were won by Doug Tagsold and crew. Immediately following the races, all sailors and supporters gathered for the presentation of the 2013 sailing awards. Races were cancelled again on June 8th due to rain and cold temperatures, but the weather was much improved for the races on Jun 15th. Three different crews won the three races. If interested, the results of all races are posted on the bulletin board on the Club porch. All of these races after the Memorial Day Series are part of the summer series and count toward the Club Championship. The fleet is actively looking for sailors who would like to participate in the weekly races, either as a skipper or as crew. If anyone has a Lightning to enter, would like to purchase a Lightning to enter, would like to sail the Club boat in the races, or would just like information about the weekly racing, please contact me at the phone number below.
