Mother Nature has been handing us some extreme events this summer, both good (great weather at the end of the season) and not so good (wind, rain, pool closing for several days due to flooding) but in true IVY Club fashion, we have persevered. There is still plenty of time to use the pool before the final day of this season, Labor Day, September 7th. Please come down and enjoy a few more warm days at the pool. I would like to take this time to thank all of the wonderful members who prepared the pool to open, tear it down again as we prepared for the flood, and clean up the pool and reopen it again this year. It is the dedicated and involved members that make the club, and the pool, alive and vibrant. In spite of the high waters we were also able to offer so many children at our club some swim lessons and stroke clinics that met the needs of a young family s busy schedule while making the best use of our beautiful facility. For that I am happy and thankful. A big thank you to our friends at Mt. Hawley Country Club for their hospitality to our members this summer as well as the Greater Peoria Family YMCA for allowing us to have practice time for our swimmers during the flood. I would also like to commend the nearly completely new pool staff that had quite a year to transition to their new summer home here at the IVY pool. Hopefully for all involved, both members and staff, next year will be a little less impacted by Mother Nature s wrath. That is all for now. May your autumn be filled with light and cool breezes, your winter mild, and your spring arrive early. We will see you at the pool summer of John Meisinger Did You Know? Taco Thursdays Starting September 10th, a full Taco Bar will be in the IVY Club Bar every Thursday evening from 5:30 to 8:00. Tacos are $1.50 each. You may set up autopay for your bill so that it is paid electronically once a month. Contact Office for more information If you are not receiving the Weekly s please get your address to ivyclub@comcast.net. These s will keep you up to date on all of the happenings at IVY. You don t want to miss anything! Mexican Night was MUY BUENO!

And bid on some really cool stuff! (Where else will you find Marilyn Monroe Wine?) Items will be available for viewing on Friday, August 28th, with final bidding at 12 noon on Sunday, September 6th. Donate u Bid u Have Fun! Contact Susi Butler with any questions Looking for a unique Holiday gift idea? Shop right here at the IVY Club! What do you get a family member that has everything? You get them a Membership to the IVY Club. How about a non-resident membership for your out-of-town children and grand children. Remember that membership also provides reciprocity to other clubs around the world, so they would actually be able to visit clubs where they live and where you live. Shop at the IVY Club store. Polo shirts, t-shirts, jackets, hats - we ve got it all! Definitely a unique gift for anyone. As you know, we have Sailing Lessons in the summer - youth and adult classes. This would be an amazing gift for someone with an adventurous spirit. These are the gifts that keep on giving!
5 Bridge notes Oh, summer of June 30 saw the river reach feet, the 8th highest level on record. Before and after, no boating for more than a month, which we understand to be the longest period where the river was closed to recreational boating. If we saw the fireworks, it was from land. So, we swam, eventually, and watched a movie in the pool. We danced on the deck and played bags on the barge. We entertained an adventurer who has paddled/ sailed the entire loop in a very small boat (if you didn t catch his story, go read about John Guider - The River Inside), and otherwise did our best to enjoy our Club. But, and you know what they say about life and lemons, as a club based on boating, it s tough to say this summer could qualify as lemonade.so, here s our plan: Let s make this fall a Second Summer. Starting with our regular Labor Day festivities, we plan to embrace every minute we can on the water and at the Club. We ll provide permission slips to play hooky if anyone is inclined,-your bridge certainly plans a few weekday excursions! We will have a full Labor Day weekend, supplemented with some of the activities we would have had on the 4th, including our silent auction. Items will be on display the week before, and we will close the auction on Sunday. The pig will be roasted-and can always use more pig-sitters Saturday night. We hope to have several entries in the Cardboard Boat Race on Monday, to make for an entertaining, if not competitive, event! October The Ron Slonneger PHRF Regatta Football in the bar on Sundays October 24 - Kid s Halloween Parade and Party October 24 - Adult s Halloween Party Start working on your costume! The Rib Cook-Off will be on September 13, keep an eye on the Weekly Happenings and bulletin board for more details. The Lobster Boil will wrap up the month on the 26th. Please do what you can to join us, and capture as much as possible of the Second Summer of See you at the Club!
