1 This newsletter is produced by St. Madeleine's students in the Theresa & Edward O'Toole Foundation Adaptive Computer Learning Center. October 2012 Sophie s Gazette St. Madeleine Sophie s Center SMSC Performing Groups This fall the SMSC Music Therapy Program significantly expanded by partnering up with Rock and Roll San Diego in Point Loma. Rock and Roll San Diego is a full-service Music & Recording Arts School offering the highest level in Music Education, as well as Rehearsal Studios, Music Sales, Rentals and Production Services. SMSC students visit this studio once a week for a full day of therapeutic singing, group music making, bell playing, music and movement exercises, songwriting, and more! SMSC Singers Music therapist, Rebecca Vaudreuil MT-BC, welcomes aboard new music therapist, Laura Anderson MT- BC, to the SMSC music program. These two board certified music therapists work with the students on learning music melodies and harmonies, lyric comprehension and memorization, group songwriting, choreography, a variety of musical strategies, and group dynamics of performance. SMSC Ringers Music is a positive element of life- that when facilitated correctly can help to promote positive self-image, boost confidence, and highlight the amazing abilities of the SMSC musicians! ~Rebecca Vaudreuil, MT-BC The SMSC Performing Groups: SMSC Singers (vocal) and SMSC Ringers (Bells) will be performing at various events at SMSC and in the community this fall. Catch a show if you can! Stay tuned for show dates and times. Inside this issue: Movie Review 2 Rental Review 2 Topic of the Month 2 SMSC Events 3-4 Self Advocacy News 5 Birthdays 5 Employment News 6 Menu 7 Holiday Reminder SMSC will be closed on Monday, October 8 due to the Columbus Day holiday. Enjoy a safe and fun day off!
2 Page 2 Rental Review Here s this week s movie review. The only movie I saw this week was the Three Stooges, with Moe, Larry, and Curly. The movie was good and funny. They throw pies at each other and Moe finds out that their friends were born with nuns. We had some good weather all the time in September. For October, the weather is going to be hot outside. Be ready next week Larry and Curly try to get money for the nuns. I love The Three Stooges and I own this movie at home. At the end of the movie, Moe gets a job with his friends. I love movies and this movie is so very funny. Movie Review when it is supposed to get very hot and sunny. Topic of the Month Hi, this is Clayton Malik Hauer, with your topics for the month of October, since there are now only 3 more months left in The month of October is the scariest month of the year. But it s also the start of the holiday season with Halloween; and since movies such as The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises came out, they broke old box office records and set new box office records. The most popular costumes this Halloween, while children are out Trick- Or-Treating, will most likely be Captain America, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Black Widow, Black Struck, and the Norse God Thor. Thor was the God of Thunder and Lightning in Norse mythology and for whom we have named the fifth day of the week Thursday, or Thor s Day. Most of the male children will most likely be dressed just like The Dark Knight himself or Batman, and to all of you children that will be out Trick Or Treating this Halloween night, please be safe. I ll see you next month! Theresa Moons Heather Birch Clayton Hauer
