Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed a great event! Upcoming Events April 2 nd - No School April 9 th -13 th - 4 th Grade Smarter Balance Testing April 16 th -20 th - 3 rd Grade Testing May 3 rd - Spring Concert, 9:30 AM and 1:20 PM* *please note the change in time from our previous newsletter May 11 th - Fitness Day May 21 st - 5 th Grade Graduation- 1:45 PM May 22 nd - Last Day, dismissed at 11:30 AM Attendance ATTENDANCE: A Key to your Student s SUCCESS! Schools are responsible for teaching your child, but schools can t do their job if your child is absent. Learning builds day by day. A child who misses a day of school, misses a day of learning. Research shows that children who are in school most of the time do better on state tests. Studies also show that kids who are absent more often score lower on state tests. Being late for school hurts a child s learning, too. A student who is 10 minutes late every day will miss 30 hours of instruction during the year. Gas Cards for Attendance: Any Student who has perfect attendance for the quarter will be put into a drawing for a prize including a $50 gas card for their family. 3 rd Quarter Winners: Collin Shuey and Dillynn Wicks

Newsletter 6 th Grade Vaccination Requirements One dose of Tetanus, theria, Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine and one dose of Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine are REQUIRED for 6 th grade entry. These shots should be given on or after the 11 th birthday. If your child is 10 years old when entering 6 th grade they have 45 days after their 11 th birthday to receive the vaccinations. These requirements are specified in South Dakota Codified Law Please visit with your physician or Brown County Community Health Center ( ) to see if your child needs these vaccinations. The Aberdeen School District Health Office asks that all parents of 6 th grade students turn in the updated immunization record to the school one week prior to the first day of school. Band Instrument Try-Out Night: Simmons students will try-out in the Simmons Middle Gym on Thursday, April 19th, 4-7pm Holgate students will try-out in the Holgate Gym on Monday, April 23rd, 4-7 pm. If you have questions, please contact Jim Panerio, Simmons ( ) or Sara Weischedel, Holgate ( ). KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION: Registration for Kindergarten has started. Parents must have a copy of a certified Birth Certificate, Immunization record, and Proof of Residence. Kindergarten Open House is 3:30-4:30pm, Thursday, April 19. Sports Physicals Students in 5th grade who plan to participate in the school sponsored Cross Country, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Tennis, and/or Golf program during the school year are required to have an athletic physical prior to participation. SPORTS PHYSICALS will be held at Central High School on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The cost is $25. Letters will be sent out providing more information mid-april to all 5th grade students.
