The Greenwich Foundation runs the Old Royal Naval College (ORNC), one of the most important groups of historic buildings in London and the centrepiece of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site.

6 The Greenwich Foundation runs the Old Royal Naval College (ORNC), one of the most important groups of historic buildings in London and the centrepiece of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. The Painted Hall ceiling At a staggering 2612sqm the Painted Hall is the largest figurative painted interior in the country. The theme of Sir James Thornhill s exuberant lower hall ceiling is the triumph of Peace and Liberty over Tyranny. It pays tribute to King William and Queen Mary, seated in glory in the middle of the central oval, and the importance of naval power to the fortunes of the nation. The Chapel ceiling The ceiling of the Chapel is a wonderful piece of craftsmanship and is almost certainly responsible for the superb acoustics of the space. It was designed by the master plasterer John Papworth in a neo-classical design of squares and octagons. The intricate central ornaments were carved, rather than cast in moulds. It is plastered in light blue and cream following a Wedgewoodinspired colour scheme. Wren's twin domes The twin domes of the ORNC are an iconic Greenwich landmark and house the magnificent Painted Hall and Chapel. One of the best views of Sir Christopher Wren s grand design is from the Water Gate. 11 The Phoenix Artist Club is a private members' club located in the heart of London Theatreland and our membership is made up of professionals from the performing arts and media industries. This lively and nostalgic theatre bar is located in the original dressing and rehearsal rooms of the Phoenix Theatre where Laurence Olivier made his debut on stage in the 1930s in "Private Lives" with Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence. In the late '70s it was transformed into a wine bar and restaurant with a decor to complement its theatrical past. The unique decor includes some very special artworks such as the costume designs of the Rhine Stone Ballet, a hand-made model of the Old Vic Theatre and prints detailing how to dress well in 1930s London. The collection is also constantly changing as members regularly add their own memorabilia. Scattered around are props from past productions and signed prints from West End shows. The Club is an institution amongst its members and is a gem that once visited is never forgotten. It offers a great atmosphere for networking, meetings or just a relaxing drink with friends and colleagues.
