2 The Crown & Thistle is a historic venue in the heart of Abingdon, immaculately refurbished for today s requirements. We provide the space, atmosphere and discreet, supportive service that will ensure your business event meets your needs and expectations. WELCOME Each business has different requirements so we offer a range of packages from hour-long power meetings through to fully-catered day-long events with overnight accommodation. Free wifi is available throughout our venue; from the function rooms through to the bedrooms so no matter how long you stay you can stay online. 3 THE BARN This self-contained, naturally-lit area offers private space for meetings and events of all kinds. 4 INFORMAL MEETING ROOMS The piecemeal way in which the Crown & Thistle was built all those centuries ago lends itself rather well to today s more relaxed, creative and informal meetings. We have two charming rooms for such gatherings, each naturally lit and both with their own personalities. RELAX AND UNWIND The Red Room Located inside our main restaurant, this room makes the perfect venue for private breakfast meetings, working lunches and networking meetings. Minstrells This galleried room is the very oldest part of our beautiful venue and is believed to have been built using one of the original walls of the neighbouring abbey. Today, this room is located behind our cosy bar and lends itself well to less formal gatherings; perhaps when you looking for a little more creative thinking from your delegates. No two bedrooms are alike at The Crown & Thistle. Each of our rooms is a delight cosy and idiosyncratic with ancient beams, flashes of exposed brickwork and rich wallpapers created by British designers. You ll feel special the moment you step through the door. Our interior designers have used the building s abundant variety to create a series of stylish and fun-filled escapes. Some overlook the bustle of Bridge Street, others look inwards across the cobbled courtyard. They offer the best views of the inn s vernacular architecture as it developed across so many generations of builders. Inside you can look forward to a sound night s sleep between crisp white linen sheets in a four-poster bed surrounded by modern comforts. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with traditional roll-top bath or shower, air-conditioning, flat-screen television, iod docking station, unlimited Wi-Fi, tea and coffee-making facilities and a well-stocked mini bar. 7

5 FOOD & DRINK Breakfast latters of hot, fresh bacon and sausage sandwiches make a welcome start for delegates travelling from near and far alike. We also offer a continental-style buffet breakfast suitable for larger groups, whilst more intimate tête-à-têtes might prefer one of our delicious cooked breakfasts. Working lunches & buffets We have a range of buffet options which make for restorative working lunches as well as catering for less formal gatherings. Our buffets can be tailored to suit your group s dietary requirements as well as your budget. Canapés Set the tone for pitch-perfect product launch, a thank you for your team or simply start your evening in style with a Champagne and canapé reception. Discreet, observant servers will ensure your guests are well catered for throughout your event, topping up glasses and circulating with delicious, bite-sized hot and cold canapés. rivate dining Choose from one of our expertly compiled three-course menus, accompanied by a selection of wines or beers from our extensive lists, all served in the privacy of your own dining area. Dining occasions in The Barn come with the added benefit of your own private bar and can be accompanied by a live musician upon request. Something different If you re not one to the follow the crowd, or you want to show your team or clients a good time then we have a few blue sky, out of the box suggestions for you. For larger groups (50+ guests) how about an impressive hog roast, carved by one of our skilled chefs and served with all the delicious trimmings? Or perhaps you might like a mini ale festival. Better yet, combine the two and your event will certainly set the standard amongst your peers. If you have a smaller gathering in mind, our skilled mixologists can teach them how to make a few classic cocktails before acting as your own, personal bar tender for the evening. Alternatively, you might prefer an expert evening of wine tasting; learn how to identify different grape varieties and become a doyen of food and wine paring. 9

6 HOW TO FIND US Abingdon is on the A415 between Witney and Dorchester, linked to the M4 and M40 motorways by the adjacent A34 trunk road. There are local bus services from Oxford (5.5 miles) and small railway stations in Culham and Radley, about two miles away. arking We have 2 free, private parking spaces, including one dedicated disabled parking bay and some areas for pick-ups and drop-offs. lease note that if you are using satnav to find us you will need to use postcode OX14 3JE to locate our car park entrance.
