2 2018 Catering Nominations Catering Nominations Close: Wednesday 4 April 2018 CATERING CATEGORY CHOICE AND DEFINTIONS Caterers can enter a maximum of two (2) categories only. Please tick the appropriate category choice/s. I. CORPORATE CATERER* Caterers based in a commercial kitchen/s or at corporate sites providing a range of services exclusively to the corporate sector breakfasts, luncheons, cocktail parties, product launches, seminars and boardroom functions. May include off-site functions specifically for the corporate sector. 2. EVENTS CATERER* Caterers involved in the catering and co-ordination of an event held at a place which is not commonly used as a function venue, covering the social, corporate, public or government sectors. This includes party functions, incentive events, major public one-off events, charity events, entertainment, sporting events, product launches, themed media events, and events held within institutions such as schools. Weddings are not permitted to be judged in this category. The event must be a single site function. (Note: Category may be split into Caterer at a Major Event and Caterer at an Event this will be determined by the number of nominations received for each category). 2A. CATERER AT A MAJOR EVENT Caterers involved in catering and co-ordination of an event held at a place which is not commonly used as a function venue, for more than 500 people covering the social, corporate, public and/or government sector and must be a single site. This includes incentive events, major public one-off events, charity events, entertainment, sporting events, product launches, themed and media events. Caterers may enter either Caterer at a Major Event or Caterer at an Event but not both. Event must be a single site function. 2B. CATERER AT AN EVENT Caterers involved in catering and co-ordination of an event held at a place which is not commonly used as a function venue, for less than 500 people covering the social, corporate, public and/or government sectors. This includes incentive events, major public one-off events, charity events, entertainment, sporting events, product launches, themed and media events. Caterers may enter either Caterer at a Major Event or Caterer at an Event but not both. Event must be a single site function. 3. FUNCTION / CONVENTION CENTRE CATERER* Caterers primarily providing catering and function facilities to customers for a variety of events including family celebrations, conferences and corporate events undertaken at a hotel or purpose-built function or convention centre, owned or leased exclusively by the caterer. Catering services are to be provided on the premises or on the surrounds of the premises, (such as golf clubs, sailing clubs, regatta centres and Hotel/Resorts). 4. NEW CATERER* Caterers that have been operational for a period no greater than 12 months and have been open since the close of nominations for the previous Awards for Excellence program in each state. A new company, new operator/owner at existing premises qualifies for this category. New Caterers do not qualify for Caterer of the Year. (Note: This is the only category that a New Caterer can enter). 5. SITE / INDUSTRIAL CATERER* Category may be split into Site-Contract Caterer and Industrial / Institutional Caterer this will be determined by the number of nominations received for each category. Entrants are judged on a site visit; no events can be judged in this category or its sub-categories. Note: Entry is permitted for one site only. R&CA may review remote sites via skype and video recording to reduce extraordinary travel expenses for the caterer and R&CA. In those instances the caterer will be required to provide examples of food as prepared for on site during the usual pre briefing. 5A. INDUSTRIAL / INSTITUTIONAL CATERER Caterers with single or multiple sites (contracted or self-managed) providing services for institutions including hospitals, aged care facilities, prisons and the educational sector. Entry is permitted for one site only. Note: Entrants are judged on a site visit no events can be judged in this category. 5B. SITE-CONTRACT CATERER Caterers contracted to provide services at single or multiple industrial sites such as canteens and cafeterias. The contract must state the caterer as the sole provider of services for the site. Entry is for one site only. Note: Entrants are judged on a site visit no events can be judged in this category. R&CA may review remote sites via skype and video recording to reduce extraordinary travel expenses for the caterer and R&CA. In those instances the caterer will be required to provide examples of food as prepared for on site during the usual pre briefing. 6. SMALL CATERER* A caterer that qualifies for any of the catering categories (except Restaurant Caterer) with a turnover of less than $2 Million and fewer than 11 permanent full time equivalent staff. (Note: Excludes multi-sites or groups). 7. VENUE CATERER* Caterers with preferred agreements or contracts to provide catering services at venues such as museums, galleries, performing arts complexes or sports grounds. The caterer provides services for various events including dinners, charity events, conferences and weddings. Services are to be provided on the premises or the surrounds of the premises. 8. WEDDING CATERER* Caterers specialising in the wedding market. Caterers based in their own commercial kitchen/s or at a function venue. 9. RESTAURANT CATERER* Restaurants that offer catering services on-site. Restaurant must be used exclusively for the event. This is the only category that a restaurant can enter. 5 Each year Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) conducts the Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence. The awards program provides deserved recogni on to those restaurants and caterers that excel in the field of catering. ENTRY DETAILS To be eligible for entry into the 2018 catering awards, entrants must submit the following informa on prior the close of entries: 1. Completed entry form 2. Provide a list of suitable events to be judged (at least 4) over a few months dura on, during the judging period. (Page 3) 3. Provide site details if applicable. 4. Provide a brief explana on (up to 50 words) on why you fit into your chosen category. This is to be provided for EACH category entered. 5. Caterers Entry Fee (per category): Members - $ Non-members - $ Prices include GST. Where there is only one entrant in a category, that entrant will not be eligible to win that category but can be awarded an Honourable Men on. In this instance the entrant will be given the op ons to: (a) remain the sole entrant of that category; (b) move to another category with mul ple entrants (providing eligibility criteria can be met); or (c) withdraw from the Awards (refer to Awards entry fees and refunds overleaf) It is the responsibility of the entrant to check their category and contact R&CA if they wish to move or withdraw. 5. Refer to the Terms and Condi ons of Entry (overleaf) for further details on the Catering Awards. ENTRY PROCESS AND ANNOUNCMENT OF WINNERS A finalist list for the 2018 Catering Awards will be announced for each region prior to the Awards presenta on evening and will be available to view on the relevant page of the Restaurant & Catering website. Category winners will be announced for each region and the entrant with the highest score will go on to compete at the Na onal Awards. 6 CATERING AWARDS - TERMS & CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Restaurant & Catering Industrial Associa on of Australia Incorporated trading as Restaurant & Catering Australia ( R&CA ) owns and operates that the Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence and the Restaurant & Catering Members Awards (collec vely Awards ). 1. Defini ons Associate Member means a natural person, firm, partnerships or corpora on engaged in the manufacture, produc on, distribu on or provision of goods and services rela ng to the Food service industry. Associate Members will not be en tled to vote at any General Mee ng of the Associa on or and shall be not eligible for elec on to the Management Commi ee; Business Day means a week day, excluding a public holiday in Sydney, New South Wales; Chief Judge Administrator is the final decision maker of the Awards; Entry Closure Date is outlined on the front page of this document; Finalist List means the list of nominees that have met the entry criteria and the minimum score for recogni on as a finalist. Financial Member means member hospitality businesses where membership fee is fully paid. Honourable Men on means a nominee for a single entrant category that meets the appropriate standard. Member means any member of the Associa on but shall not include an Associate Member, an affiliate member or subscriber or honorary member; Member Re-joining Fee is $80.00, payable by previous members to renew their membership; Na onal Award Categories means a category that will proceed to be recognised at the Na onal awards event. Prix-Fixe Menu means a menu that is a fixed price, either degusta on or choice menu. You means the person or en ty (including employees, directors, officers, representa- ves and agents) named on the front sec on of this Agreement. 2. Eligibility All members of R&CA are eligible to enter the Awards, upon payment of applicable entry fees (see front page of this document). Entries received from Non-Financial members will incur the Non-Member entry fee (see front page of this document). Non-members who have previously been a member of R&CA may resume their membership by paying a re-joining fee of $80.00, plus the annual membership fee, to take advantage of the R&CA member awards entry fee. You may contact the Associa on on or membership@restaurantcater.asn.au to make the necessary arrangements. Non-members who have never been a member and wish to enter the awards, can also elect to become a member at the same me. If they do, they will incur the R&CA member awards entry fee. If you wish to become a member under these circumstances, contact the associa on on or membership@restaurantcater.asn.au Entry fees must be paid upon comple on of the entry form (on the front page). Entrants will be disqualified if fees are outstanding beyond Entry Closure Date. Entrants must have an opera onal business at the me of the announcement of the awards in order to be eligible for recogni on as a finalist or winner. Member s businesses must be financial at the me of the presenta on to be eligible to par cipate in the Awards. 3. Categories Defini ons of each category are included in this entry form. Entrants must clearly mark the category/categories that they wish to enter. It is Important to note that not all categories listed will be run in all states. Categories will be split into sub-categories only if there are sufficient entrants at the discre on of the Chief Judge Administrator. The Chief Judge Administrator (in consulta on with R&CA) reserves the right to refuse entries for any par cular category if in their opinion, the entry is inappropriate for the category concerned. Restaurants can enter Restaurant Caterer only and restaurant must be used exclusively for the event. 4. Single Entrant Categories Where a category may have only one entrant and the entrant does not fit into an alternate category, the single entrant will s ll be assessed. If the entrant fails to meet the appropriate standard, then no finalist will be announced. If the entrant meets the appropriate standard, the entrant will be awarded an Honourable Men on. Businesses are to check the Finalist List posted on to see if they are a single entrant. It is the responsibility of the Finalist to contact R&CA about their status and category. All Finalists are requested to a end the respec ve awards presenta on func on for the announcement of winners. Categories marked with an asterisk (*) are Na onal Award Categories. If you are announced as the winner at your state event, the entrant with the highest score will move forward to the Na onal Awards for Na onal award categories. Please note that although you may win the master category this does not give you automa c entry into the Na onal Awards. The Na onal entrant will be the entrant with the highest score from both the master and sub-categories. At no me will winners be disclosed prior to the awards events. There is no direct entry to the major awards for Café of the Year, Restaurant of the Year or Caterer of the Year. The winners of these awards are determined by the highest point score obtained from winners of the café categories for Café of the Year, the restaurant categories for Restaurant of the Year and the catering categories for Caterer of the Year. New Restaurant and Small Bar do not qualify for these awards. 6. Regional Entries Where there are sufficient entries in any category, a regional sub-category will be run to recognise regional entrants excluding ACT, NSW and QLD. 7. Entry Period The entry period for the Awards are outlined on the front page of this document, and may be varied by R&CA, or the Chief Judge Administrator in its sole discre on. Late entries will only be accepted at the discre on of the Chief Judge Administrator. The closing dates for catering entries are on the front page of the catering nomina on document. 8. Award Entry Fees and Refunds The fees applicable to enter for Financial Members of RCA is $ including GST. Award entry fees for non-members is $ Including GST An entry fee is applicable for each category entered. The entry fee directly offsets the cost incurred by the judges. Entrants withdrawing their entry prior to evalua on will be refunded less an administra- on fee of $ If an entrant does not provide four event op ons to be judged and needs to withdraw due to no judge being available, the entry fee less an administra on fee of $80.00 will be refunded. No refund will be issued once the entrant has been evaluated under the system. Addi onal travel expenses for judges may need to be charged for catering establishments located in remote loca ons including airfares and accommoda on. R&CA will request approval from the entrant for any such addi onal expenses prior to judging. 9. Payment Details Payments will only be accepted via Credit Card, EFT or cheque. Cheques are to be made out to Restaurant & Catering Australia and MUST be accompanied by a fully completed entry form. 10. Judging Criteria and Process Each finalist in the awards is evaluated by trained independent judges under the Na onal Restaurant and Catering Evalua on System (RACES). Caterers are judged on a nominated func on and must give at least four (4) weeks no ce for a judge to be secured. Caterers must have the approval of the client for a judge to be in a endance at the func on. Each catering business is assessed on a strict set of judging criteria. To view the detailed judging criteria visit In the Site/Industrial Caterer category, entrants are judged on a site visit only to assess food and service criteria. No events can be judged in this category. The assigned judge does not par cipate as a guest in the event being judged. Judging of entrants will take place from December 2017 un l the catering closing date depending on the date of the Awards event in each region. To be eligible for judging the entered caterer must provide a list of available func ons that can be assessed with at least four (4) weeks no ce. Whilst all events provided are eligible, R&CA has the right to request further dates for judgment due to the inability of judges or unforeseen circumstances. If you are the sole entrant in a category and are awarded an Honourable Men on, R&CA will not be able to provide a sta s cal feedback chart, as there are no further category entrants to compare your judging evalua on. 11. Disclaimer: An entrant may not be able to be judged due to loca on and/or event dates. 12. Judges Decision Final The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 5. Entrants, Finalists and Winners All entries are reviewed by the Chief Judge Administrator to determine a Finalist List. A full Finalist List will be announced on the R&CA website, prior to the Award presenta on dinners.
