18 Missouri Charolais Breeders Association Membership Dear Charolais Breeders, As Charolais breeders, we have a lot to be excited about, despite the downward trend in the overall cattle markets. This past spring, Charolais sales remained very strong an indicator that our product remains in demand with commercial and purebred cattleman alike. With eight of the top 25 bull and female sales in the country, the Missouri Charolais Breeders are celebrating another year of success on a national level. As reported in the Charolais Journal, twenty-two bull and female sales across Missouri during the past 12 months grossed $4.6M 407 bulls averaged $5,353; 574 females averaged $4,217. Further, Charolaissired calves have consistently topped feeder calf sales at auction markets across the state. Considering that Missouri cattle numbers grew exponentially for the second year in a row, experiencing a growth of over 5% in the last two years, we stand in prime position to take advantage of the added marketplace for Charolais genetics. More cattle = more business. Charolais breeders are primed and ready to take advantage of the current state of the industry because we have what matters most to commercial cattleman: pounds and profit. Now, more than ever, more pounds are the path to more value in the commercial market. Currently, Missouri is #2 for active members, #3 for junior members, and #4 for enrolled females. With this much success in our state, the excitement is building for another successful year marketing Charolais genetics. A quick glance through our Breeder Directory shows a dedicated group of breeders committed to marketing the best Charolais genetics you can find. There are plenty of opportunities to take advantage of Missouri Charolais genetics. The Missouri State Fair continues to be the largest state fair for open and junior Charolais shows. The Ten Grand Sale is coming back to the American Royal with some fresh updates (stay tuned!), which will be in conjunction with the Royal Breeders Classic and the National ROE Show. Our fall MCBA female and bull sale will be November 5, 2016, in Springfield. Also several breeders are having fall sales, so check out our calendar of upcoming events. The Juniors are looking forward to hosting the Junior National in Springfield at the end of June this summer. Feel free to stop by any of these events and get to know our breeders and their cattle. Don t forget to keep an eye out for updates on our website. Also feel free to contact any board member or breeder if you have questions on upcoming activities and how to be involved. Sincerely, Jeannine Doughty MCBA President www. missouricharolais.com

30 The Stakes are HIGH Bayvue Farmshas upped it s ante by adding 100 Angus cows and 25 Brangus and Ultra Black cows. This is not a game, not a hobby, not a past time, it is our business. Along with Kyle, Kristin and Corey the Angus, Brangus and Ultra Blacks are from Outfit 8, a Division of Bayvue Farms. The Angus, Brangus and Ultra Blacks will carry the brand. These breeds add value to our operation. Charolais for problem free and true performance. Angus for maternal and calving ease. Brangus for southern acceptance. Ultra Blacks (50% Angus 50% Brangus) for the ultimate southern female, bred to a Charolais and the offspring will out perform anything! The Charolais are the backbone of our operation with their problem free and true performance. We will be selling close to 200 bulls this year of five breeds Charolais, Angus, Brangus, Ultra Black, Horned and Polled Hereford. Commercial cattleman, if you are not using crossbreeding in your program, you are leaving 20 to 23% heterosis advantage of weight and longevity on the table. We have topped sales all over the south. Come look at over 150 bulls at one stop. No smoke and mirrors here. The bulls sort themselves for superiority and inferiority! We keep it simple, quality bulls at a reasonable price!
