2 Crown Nursery known primarily as a tree and fruit tree specialist has a hidden secret a wide selection of perennials from the more usual to some rare collectables quality plants at competitive prices. Come and visit our new Perennial Sales Area and our new perennial borders demonstrating the use of colour combinations. Prices most plants are priced by pot sizes 9cm /2L L 4.95 There are a few exceptions for perennials that are slow or difficult to propagate these are labeled individually. Acanthus spinosus From the handsome deeply cut, glossy green leaves, rise stately stiff stems 1.2m(4ft) in height. Purple hooded, white-lipped flowers in late summer. The flower heads form an attractive winter feature. Prefers a good fertile soil in sun or part shade Achillea - reliable, hardy & easy to grow - reasonable soil in sun or part shade. Repeat flowers June onwards if deadheaded. Leave foliage over winter and prune hard in late spring. Divide regularly in spring. Most varieties growing to 60/70cm. Moonshine Summerwine Walter Funke Paprika Aegopodioum podagraria 'Variegatum' Attractive form of the common 'Ground Elder'!! Beautiful cream and green leaves, will brighten a dull shady corner. Tolerant of any soil or site. Effective and more controlled when used in pots. Height 30cm(12") Ajuga Excellent evergreen ground cover. Small light blue flowerheads in early spring/summer rise above bronze/purple-multicolour leaves marked with cream. Height 15cm(6 ). Prefers moist soil, sun/part shade. reptans Atropurpurea reptans Rainbow Alchemilla - Lady s mantle - evergreen, rounded, velvety, leaves with crinkled edges. Small sprays of tiny, bright greenish-yellow flowers in summer. Does well in sun or shade, any reasonable soil even dry ones once established. Invaluable evergreen cover under trees. conjuncta mollis alpina Allium schoenoprasum Chives. Small clump forming onion, producing masses of sweet onion flavoured leaves and pink balls of flowers on long stalks in summer. Both flowers and leaves are edible. Anemone - Autumn Flowering Japanese Anemone. Tolerant of all but the driest of soils once established. Flowering August- October. Good in sun (where the soil is moist) or shade. Can be divided in spring when flowering starts to deteriorate. x hybrida Honorine Jobert x hybrida Whirlwind x hybrida RichardAhrens Aquilegia 'William Guiness/Black Barlow One of the darkest flowering Aquilegia available - outer petals dark purple, almost black with a white centre. Flowers have long spurs. Flowering May-July and growing up to 50cm(20"). Very unusual. Any well drained soil that does not dry out. Sun or part shade.

3 Artemisia - Good background and association plants with their aromatic, feathery foliage. Best on well-drained soils, in sun. Prune hard each spring to promote plenty of fresh young growth from base. pontica ludoviciana Silver Queen Powis Castle Aruncus - We offer two varieties both quite different in form but similar in cultural requirements - both like a good moist soil in shade or part sun - aethusifolius making good clumps up to 30cm, flowering in June. dioicus towers above at 1.2m and flowers later. aethusifolius dioicus Asphodeline lutea Tall stems up to 45cm(18"), covered in needle-like blue/grey leaves. Star like bright yellow flowers in June and July. Seedpods form a wand of bright green 'cherries', later drying to crinkled brown. Unusual. Any fertile soil in sun. Aster - Michaelmas Daisy. A hardy, easy to grow border essential. Useful late flowering from September through until October. Leave dead foliage on the plant as an attractive feature in winter frost & snow also this protects the crown of the plant. lateriflorus Horizontalis lateriflorus Lady in Black novi-belgii Apollo novi-belgii Jenny novi-belgii Lady in Blue Astilbe 'Bridal Veil' Elegant open sprays of pure white flowers, creamy yellow later, opening from green buds. Height 40/60cm. Does best in a retentive soil then can take sun or shade. Astrantia -Any reasonable, not too dry soil, in sun or shade. Easy to grow. Exquisite pin cushion-like flowers. Flowering mid to late summer flower, stems up to 60/70cm (Sunningdale) 30/40cm (Claret) in height from basal clumps of leaves. Good cut flower. major Claret major Sunningdale Baptisia australis Gently spreading perennial with palmate, mid to dark green leaves, consisting of 3 lance shaped leaflets. Many-flowered racemes of dark blue flowers are borne in early summer. Best in well-drained soil in sun. Bergenia cordifolia Large evergreen leaves, supplying all year round interest. Large sprays of deep pink flowers in March/April and occasionally in early summer when the stems seem to be longer. Height 30cm(12") Campanula - A large family with some beautiful little treasures! Hardy & easy to grow. Most need a well drained but not too dry soil and do well in sun or part shade. Varieties with the hairy/ grey leaves are able to tolerate a drier soil once established. Centaurea - Knapweeds - Easy to grow, hardy plant in any well drained but not too dry soil. Most prefer a sunny spot although the montana types will tolerate some shade. Flowering from early summer onwards and repeating if deadheaded. Chelone obliqua var. alba Upright perennial that bears terminal spikes of hooded white flowers in late summer and autumn. Leaves dark green and lance shaped. Height 1m(39") Spread 50cm(20"). Requires shade and moist, well-drained soil. Circium japonicum 'Rose Beauty' Clump forming perennial with mid to dark green spiny, toothed leaves. In late summer and early autumn bears thistle-like deep carmine-red flowerheads. Best in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Coreopsis grandiflora 'Early Sunrise' Crocosmia - easy to grow in most well drained soils - all preferring full sun. Flowering from July onwards. Flowers often followed by attractive seed heads. Sword like green leaves making a good weed-suppressing clump. Growing to 60/90cm Hardy perennial. Bright golden yellow flowers, good for cutting. 4 Delphinium - An essential plant for the herbaceous border. Grand spires - always best supported before they get battered by the inevitable winds - some growing to around 1.8m. Best in good fertile, moisture retentive but welldrained soil in sun or part shade. Dicentra - Bleeding Heart or Lady-inthe-bath. Hanging locket-like flowers of pink and white or pure white are held above attractive dissected leaves. Needs some shelter from strong winds, and partial shade preferred. King Arthur Doronicum orientale caucasicum One of the first perennials to flower in April and May. Large yellow daisy-like flowers appear above freshgreen leaves. Best in partial shade, and retentive soil. A second crop of flowers appears later. Height 60cm. Echinacea - Rudbeckia or Cone Flower. Vigorous, easy to grow. Large daisy-like flower heads, each with a prominent, central cone, are borne singly on strong stems in summer. Lance-shaped dark green leaves. Height 90/120cm. Full sun/ part shade and any reasonable soil. E. purpurea E. purpurea Magnus E. purpurea White Swan Echinops 'Blue Globe' Globe Thistle. Erect perennial. Wiry stems produce thistle-like, rounded heads of powder blue flowers in summer. Narrowly oval leaves are divided and greyish-green. Height 1.2m - spread 1m. Requires full sun and prefers a poor soil. Elymus arenarius Lyme Grass. Spreading grass, growing in ideal conditions to 1.5m(5ft). Spectacular stiff slate, blue-gray leaves and long stiff flower spikes in July and August. Stems are bright yellow in autumn. Tolerant of most sites and soils. Epimedium - Attractive clump-forming perennial with semi-evergreen leaves. In spring pretty unusual cup-shaped flowers appear on slender stems -the older leaves can be cut away at this time to expose the beautiful delicate sprays. Best in part shade and well drained soil. E. roseum E. sulphureum E. x youngianum Niveum Erodium chrysanthum Undemanding perennials that thrive in poor sandy soils. Beautiful filigree silver foliage. Yellowish-white flowers June-July. Height & Spread 25cm(10"). Eryngium bourgatti Clump forming perennial that from mid to late summer carries heads of thistle-like, blue green, then lilacblue flowers on branched, wiry stems well above deeply cut, basal, grey-green leaves. Height 45-60cm. Spread 30cm. Full sun and well drained soil. Eryngium planum Evergreen, rosette forming perennial with stiff stems that in late summer bears heads of thistle-like, greyblue flowers. Height 45cm. Requires full sun and well-drained soil. Good in poor soils. Erysimium 'Constant Cheer' Wall-flower. Bushy evergreen perennial with lance-shaped dark green leaves. Dusky orange-red flowers, becoming purple are produced from mid-spring to early summer. Height to 30cm(12 ) Good in poor soils. Euphorbia - CAUTION SKIN & EYE IRRITANT - Many differing forms - mostly of Mediterranean origin so doing best in well-drained soil in sun. None like winter wet or cold clays. Ranging in height from the low growing to the tall and stately. Festuca glauca Fine tuffty leaves in a glorious slate blue, growing to 30cm(12"). Small seed heads May-July. Good for pots in sun or shade, quite drought tolerant. Filipendula rubra 'Venusta' Attractive large fluffy, flat heads of deep rose flowers in midsummer. Vine like leaves. Height to 2m(80 ). Francoa sonchifolia Rosette forming perennial with broadly lance shaped, variably and deeply lobed, basal leaves. In midsummer, unbranched stems bear compact racemes of pink and white flowers. Gaillardia 'Burgunder' Beautiful, dark red flowers from June - October. Best in a well drained, but not too dry soil and sunny position. Height 50cm(20") Spread 30cm(12"). Divide in early spring. Gaura lindheirmeri 'Whirling Butterflies' Geum - An old fashioned easy to grow hardy perennial. Attractive clump forming evergreen leaves. Loose clusters of orange/red or yellow flowers in May and June. Deadhead to prolong flowering. Any well drained soil that is not too dry and best in sun. 5 Geranium - Cranesbill - Essential components of the herbaceous border. Hardy, easy to grow, clump forming, weed suppressing perennials. Divided leaves are often aromatic. Simple bowlshaped flowers are produced over a long period throughout summer. Any reasonable soil that does not dry out too much in sun or part shade. Height varies with variety. Often a mid season hard prune will prolong flowering and rejuvenate, lanky plants. G. Brookside G. himalayense Plenum G. Johnson s Blue G. macrorrhizum Ingwersens Variety G. clarkei Kashmir White G. Helleborus - CAUTION HARMFUL IF EATEN - Easily grown where ground is rich in humus and drainage is good. Flowers February - April Best in a sheltered spot where it will produce large mounds of architectural foliage. H. corsicus H. orientalis Hemerocallis - Day Lilly - Easy to grow preferring a good fertile moist soil but not waterlogged in winter. Sun or shade as long as the soil is moist. Sandy poor soils will reduce flowering and give pale limp foliage. Flowering in July & August and growing to 60/90cm. H. Bourbon Kings H. Catherine Woodbery H. Golden Chimes H. Kwanso Variegata H. Little Missy H. Luxury Lace H. Stella de Oro Heuchera - Clump forming perennial with good ground covering properties suppressing all but the most persistent weeds. Most varieties have sprays of small, white flowers in summer. Does best in partial shade and a moisture retentive soil. H. Palace Purple H. Ring of Fire Hyssopus officinalis Medicinal herb used in the treatment of asthma, bronchitis & rheumatism. Evergreen, thrives in sandy soil and full sun. Spikes of deep violet blue flowers, loved by bees, from June to August. Height 45cm(18"). Spread 30cm(12"). Inula magnifica Robust, clump-forming, upright perennial with a mass of lance-shaped to elliptic, rough leaves. Leafy stems bear terminal heads of large, daisy-like, yellow flower heads in late summer. Height 1.8m(6ft) Spread 1m(39"). Prefers part or full sun and well-drained soil. Very spectacular and architectural, but needs space! Ipheion uniflorum 'Wisley Blue' Member of the onion family. From grass-like tufts of leaves come pale ice-blue star shaped, honey scented flowers in spring and sometimes again in autumn. Grows in any well-drained soil in sun. A winter mulch to protect the crown from cold and wet is a good idea. Protect from slugs and snails! Iris Flowering from mid-late spring. Prefer a well-drained site in full sun or dappled shade. Heights range from 80cm(32 ) to 1.5m(5ft). In winter I. foetidissima displays scarlet seeds in split seed capsules. 6 Lamium - Dead Nettles Evergreen. Ideal for smothering untidy hedge bases or as ground cover in dry shady places. Leaves on trailing stems are nettle shaped and vividly marked with white. Spikes of flowers attractive to insects appear in June/July. Height to 30cm. L. galebdolon Florentium L. maculatum White Nancy L. maculatum Red Nancy Liatris spicata 'Alba' Sturdy upright stems, growing to 60cm(24"). Covered in fresh green narrow leaves, carrying flower buds on the top two thirds, opening from the top downwards during mid-summer. Likes a well-drained soil in sun. Ligularia - Loosely clump forming perennial with stems clothed in deeply cut, round, dark leaves. Narrow spires of small, daisy-like yellow flower heads appear from mid to late summer. Height 1.2-2m - spread 1m. Shade and moist soil. L. przewalskii L. dentata Dark Beauty Lobelia 'Pink Flamingo' Hardy perennial. Elegant branching heads of rose pink flowers in late summer. Height 1.2m(4ft). Cover crowns with mulch in autumn to protect new shoots from spring frosts - when safe remove mulch. Likes a moist soil in sun or shade. Lupinus -A cottage garden favourite. Majestic spires of flowers in May/June. Will grow well in most well drained soils in sun or part shade. Height 90cm(36"). Protect from slugs and snails - especially when new shoots emerge in early spring. L. The Chatelaine L. The Pages Lychnis Both L. chalcedonica - height to 1.2m(4ft) and L. Versuvius - Height to 45cm(18 ) prefer moist, fertile soil. L. coronaria - height to 80cm(32 ) with its grey/green leaves prefers full sun and dry soil. All flower in early/mid summer L. chalcedonica L. coronaria Astrosanguinea Group L. x arkwrightii Vesuvius Lysimachia - Clump forming perennial that in summer produces spikes of flowers, above mid-green/variegated /beetroot red leaves - for a long period in summer. L. ciliata Firecracker L. punctata L. punctata Alexandras Lythrum virgatum 'The Rocket' Clump-forming perennial that carries slender spikes of rose-red flowers above mid-green foliage during summer. Good for waterside or bog garden. Height 1m(39"). Spread 45cm(24"). Prefers sun and moist soil. Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus' Ornamental, herbaceous grass. Creamy-white erect stems which gracefully arch at the tips, lasting into winter. Very reliable and versatile grass. Prefers sun/semi-shade, any soil except dry. Easy. Height 1.5m(5ft) Spread 50cm(22 ) Muscari armeniacum A real old cottage garden favourite. Scented deep blue flower spikes are held above grassy leaves in March and April. Good for early bees. Bulbous plant can increase rapidly. Nepeta 'Six Hills Giant' Easy to grow on well drained soils, preferably in full sun. Large sprays of lavender blue flowers on lax stems up to 75cm(30") all summer. Loved by bees. Needs space to be appreciated. Cut back mid season to encourage a fresh show of flowers. Omphalodes cappadocica 'Cherry Ingram' Spreading perennial with creeping underground stems and many loose sprays of flat, bright blue flowers in spring-summer above tufts of oval, hairy, basal leaves. Height 15-20cm, spread 25cm. Requires partial shade and moist soil. Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens' Evergreen, spreading, clump forming perennial grown for its distinctive grass like, black leaves. Racemes of lilac flowers in summer are followed by black fruits. Height 20cm(10 ). Spread 30cm(12 ). Requires full sun and well-drained soil. Paeonia lactiflora 'Sarah Bernhardt' Hardy perennial with showy double pink blooms, usually in June. Plant in rich, moist but not waterlogged soil in sun or light shade. Resent being moved and may take a while to settle in. Height approx. 1m (39"). Papaver orientale mixed Hairy leaved perennial with very deep, fleshy roots. Papery, bright ORANGE flowers are borne in summer on strong stems. Height 60-75cm(24-30 ). Spread 45cm(18 ). Requires full sun and well-drained soil. Paradisea liliastrum Clump-forming perennial with grass-like leaves. White flowers with conspicuous yellow anthers, which are borne in late spring or early summer. Requires well-drained soil and full sun or part shade. Height 30-60cm(12-24"). Spread 30cm(12").

7 Persicaria - ( polygonum ) - Vigorous, clump forming perennial producing spikes of soft pink or red flowers from early to late summer. Best in a good retentive soil in sun part shade. Superbum is a tall grower up to 60cm the other two are more restrained at around 30cm. P. Darjeeling Red P. affine Donald Lowndes P. bistorta Superbum Phalaris arundinacea 'Tricolour' Evergreen, spreading, perennial grass, with broad, white striped leaves. Produces narrow panicles of spikelets in summer. Can be invasive. Height 1m(39"). Spread indefinite. Requires partial shade and moist soil. Phlomis Sage-like perennial plant with grey-green leaves, woolly beneath. Flowers in early/midsummer. Do best in full sun in moist, fertile soil. Height up to 1m(3ft) P. fruticosa P. tuberosa Phlox -A clump forming late flowering hardy perennial. Flowers in clusters on tall stems up to 60cm in height August & September. Best in moist, rich, fertile soil. Full or part sun. Watch for slug damage on newly emerging shoots. P. maculata Natasha P. paniculata Fujyama Physalis alkekengi var. franchettii Ideal for cut flowers. Inconspicuous white flowers are followed in autumn by orange-red lanterns. Any reasonable soil in sun or part shade. Height to 75cm(30") Physostegia -Easy, clump forming. Prefers a rich soil in sun/part shade. Blooms for weeks in summer, growing up to 90cm(36") - seldom needs support. Each small flower is held on a stem which if moved stays where it is placed, hence common name-the Obedient Plant. Platycodon 'Hakone Double Blue' Balloon shaped buds open to powder blue flowers - some double. Good for cutting. Needs good, well drained soil in sun or part shade. Height to 45cm(18"). Polemonium - Jacobs Ladder - Vigorous perennial with bright green divided leaves, tubular flowers June to August. Height 60cm(24") spread 30cm(12"). Needs a well-drained soil, in part shade or sun. Variegated Brisse D Anjou may succumb in cold wet winters. Polygonatum multiflorum 'Variegatum' A less common form of Solomon's Seal. Hardy herbaceous perennial. Likes a good retentive, humus rich soil in shade or part shade. Arching stems carry small pendant bell shaped - cream flowers which have a green tip - in spring. Height 30/45cm (12/18"). Protect from slugs. Potentilla - Cinquefoil - Dwarf hardy, easily grown perennial. Best grown in full sun and well-drained soil. Flowering from June onwards but will repeat flower if deadheaded. Primula Primrose All three varieties prefer partial shade in a deep humus rich soil. They will tolerate full sun if the soil remains moist at all times. Flowering in spring/early summer. P. Alba P. Sulphurea P. viallii P. thurberi Monarch s Velvet Pulsatilla -The Pasque Flower. Delicate ferny leaves emerge during March and April, followed by single flowers, emerging from silk wrapped buds. Flowers give way to beautiful seed heads, which last for months. Height 20cm (8"). Well drained soil in sun/shade P. vulgaris P. vulgaris Rubra Rheum Atropurpurea A form of ornamental Rhubarb. Huge majestic leaves held high above the ground form dense clumps given time. Huge flower spikes of deep red are produced on mature plants. Better in moist soil, ideal by ponds.

8 Rodgersia Vigorous, clump forming perennials. R. aesculifolia has large horse chestnut-like leaves 25cm(10 ) long, and bears numerous, star shaped white or pink flowers in midsummer height to 2m(6ft). R. pinnata is smaller height 1.2m(4ft) with red, pink or white flowers R. aesculifolia R. pinnata Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm' From July-September large daisy-like deep, golden flower heads with conical black centers are borne at the ends of strong stems. Has narrow, rough, mid-green leaves. Height 75cm(30"). Spread 30cm(12") or more. Does best in full sun and a soil that does not become to dry. Salvia -Neat, clump forming perennial with narrow, wrinkled mid green leaves. In late spring and summer bears stiff spikes of violet-blue flowers. Height and spread 60cm(24"). Prefers full sun and well-drained soil. S. nemerosa East Friesland S. x superba S. ulignosa Sanguisorba minor Semi-evergreen perennial. Grows in any reasonable soil. Attractive delicate looking foliage which can be eaten in salads - have a cucumber flavour. Small pink round flowers appear in summer. Saxifraga umbrosa 'Variegata' A variegated form of the popular London Pride. Evergreen leaves boldly splashed with yellow. A good groundcover. Pink flower spikes in midsummer. Needs good drainage. Sedum - Easy to grow hardy oldfashioned plant with several distinct forms. Fleshy succulent foliage. Flowers in summer usually on stiff stems. Loved by butterflies and bees. Dead heads provide autumn and winter interest. Cut hard back in late spring. Sidalcea 'Party Girl' Hardy clump forming perennial. Rich pink bowl shaped single flowers open gradually from bottom to top on erect spikes. Looks delicate but is actually quite robust rarely needing staking. Needs a moist but well drained soil in sun or part shade. Does not like wet clays. Flowers are good for cutting. Height to 45cm (18"). Tellimia grandiflora Excellent for ground cover in sun or shade. Spikes of green-yellow bell-shaped flowers in May. Height 60cm(24") Thalictrum lucidum Perennial with glossy leaves, composed of numerous leaflets. Strong stems bear loose panicles of fluffy, greenish yellow flowers in summer. Height 1-1.2m(39-47"). Spread 50cm(20"). Requires full sun and well Tiarella -The Foam Flower.
