1 - DESCRIPTION OF THE GOODS AND ASSOCIATED SERVICES Africa Golden Nuts with his official partner in Tanzania export very high-quality cashew products as specified below: Crop year: current year Origin of the product: Tanzania ü Tanzania has significant competitive advantages since it produces larger nuts than other African nations and its harvest coincides with the end of the Indian and West African season.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS : ü Defective nuts: 5% max ü Foreign matters: 0.5% max ü Humidity: 5% to 10% max ü Out turn in nuts: lbs./80kg ü Rate of sprouting: less than 200 nuts/kg ü No residue of BHC, DDT or organic phosphate pesticides ü Rate of acidity of the nuts (KOH): less than 3 mg/g ü Peroxide value of kernels: no more than 0.08 g/100g ü Nut Count / Per Kg ü Free from insects & Spots.
ü Tree in the orchard Descriptive text: THE CASHEW TREE (anacardium occidentale) is native to Brazil. Its edible nuts are the main product used from this plant.the cashew tree is cultivated in soil that is very rich in organic matter, with an acidic PH if possible.the cashew tree is a source of heating wood,charcoal, as well as factory lumber. The bark is used as a source of tannins or yellow dye. The oil extracted from the toxic shell of the fruit can be used to produce varnish, insecticides or an indelible ink. That oil, which is toxic and irritates the skin, should be handled with care.the branches and leaves of the tree may beeaten by cattle.
ü Yellow cashew nut Descriptive text: Ripened Cashew Apple The cashew nut is the fruit of the cashew tree(anacardium occidentale), which is native to the Northeast region of Brazil. Its edible kernel is the main product used from this plant. It is an achene, which initially develops at the tip of a juicy pedicel, which is edible, too, and is a false fruit known as the cashew apple.the nut is surrounded by a double shell: the thin green outer shell is separated from the hard, brown inner shell by structure with cavities that contains a caustic phenol resin composed of 90% anacardic acid and 10% cardol called CNSL (cashew nutshell liquid). At the heart of that shell is the cashew nut : a single kernel in the shape of a half moon, approx. 3mm long,surrounded by a white film.
2 TRACABILITY OF THE SECTOR AND ITS PRODUCTS: A. CASHEW NUT CULTIVATION: a. Cashew production in the Tanzania is mainly concentrated in the southern coastal regions of the country, near the towns of Mtwara, Kilwa and Dar-es-salaam. The sale and marketing of the product is run by the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania. Africa Golden Nuts with his official partner in Tanzania uses a network of brokers to locate high-quality suppliers in the various farming regions.
Map showing areas where cashew nuts are grown in Tanzania
b. Tanzania has two (2) cashew seasons : 1. From end of September to end February (i.e., 5 months) the following year. The cashew is available from all regions such as: Mtwara, Lindi, Masasi, Tunduru, Coast Region etc. except Tanga. 2. Tanga Season which is a smaller season begins from end of February to June or July (i.e., 5 months) depends on the rainy season Thanks to its excellent operating structure and network of carefully selected suppliers, Africa Golden Nuts is able to provide its clients with high-quality cash nuts. B. CONDITIONS OF HARVESTING AND DRYING THE CASHEW NUTS: a. The harvesting relies on hand-picking, followed by separation of the cashew apple from the nut. It is recommended to collect the applies for storage in a section of the plantation. b. Africa Golden Nuts advises its suppliers to dry the nuts at least 2 to 3 days, while regularly overturning the nuts in order to obtain a proper rate of humidity. The packaging of the cashew nuts is also a very important selection criterion for our choice of suppliers. Packaging in a gunny sack without foreign matter ensures optimal quality products.
C. CONSERVATION OF PRODUCTS IN THE PRODUCTION ZONE: a. The cashew nuts from the fields are stored in regional warehouses. The coops have purchasing centres that own or rent such storage facilities. Complying with the standards of quality and hygiene are essential selection criteria for our choice of suppliers. Africa Golden Nuts recommends storing the product in batches in well-ventilated and hygienic storehouse, on pallets, while leaving a space between the walls and the sacks for inside air circulation. b. Packaging in a gunny sack without foreign matter ensures optimal quality products. The bagging process in the local storage facility is supervised by quality control agents on Africa Golden Nuts s behalf. D. TRANSPORTING THE PRODUCE FROM THE FARMING AREAS TO THE PORT AREA: a. Transport is an important factor in ensuring the quality of the product. Africa Golden Nuts encourages its suppliers to shop the produce under good conditions in order to ensure its quality. 3 WAREHOUSE: a. Africa Golden Nuts has a warehouse space which facilitates handling and exporting operations. The warehouse, meets the international hygiene control standards; b. Warehouse security: the port area is secured by a squad of gendarmes, a police station manned by several officers;
c. Hygienic conditions of the warehouses: all the warehouses in the port area are fumigated before the produce is unloaded; rodent control is performed monthly; d. Maximum duration of warehouse storage of produce before embarkation: 5 to 10 days maximum. B. Description of mode of warehousing in compliance with conditions of ventilation and hygiene The produce is stored in stacks on pallets, with broad aisles between the rows to allow for the passage of forklifts to handle the batches. The warehouses are properly maintained and ventilated. 4 PRODUCT QUALITY CONTROL AND CERTIFICATION: 1. We select our farmers on the basis of the quality of their products and the conditions of picking and drying. After a few months of drying under direct sunlight, the quality control officers in charge of our products go to the regional warehouses to inspect the nuts before they are bagged in the gunny sacks for transport to our port warehouse. That inspection ensures that: a. the produce is dried under optimal conditions; b. the produce is properly sorted before being bagged in the gunny sacks; c. the produce is properly stacked in the regional warehouses before being loaded on the lorries;
d. The sacks are arranged in the lorries in such a way as to ensure optimal aeration and complete protection of the produce from any rain during transport. 2. The quality and weight are certified by SGS that entity has been chosen by the Africa Golden Nuts for certification and quality control of cashew nets. A standard audit based on sampling is obligatory for all exporters. Africa Golden Nuts is devoted to quality and therefore systematically performs especially strict audits on all the bags. 3. Our warehouse complies with the international standards and is fumigated before the produce is unloaded; rodent control is performed monthly.
