3 Applications Application Number: Filing Date: March 20, 2013 Applicant: Bayer CropScience AG Alfred Nobel Strasse 50, D Monheim, Germany Crop: Rice Proposed Denomination: INH10001 Rice hybrid INH10001 (proposed commercial name Arize Bigante Plus) when grown as per recommended practices, has a potential yield of 13.2 tons per hectare. It has a maturity range of 110 to 118 days. Approximate plant height is 119 cm. Paddy grains of hybrid INH10001 are slightly aromatic, characterized by an amylose content of approximately 18.8%, and the G.T. score is 5.1. Milling recovery (Grade 1) as measured on paddy obtained from trials grown in the Philippines is about 66.8% and head rice (Grade 1) is about 52%. In the field trials, INH10001 shows intermediate reaction to rice blast, bacteria leaf blight and sheath blight and resistant to stemborer. Application Number: Filing Date: April 8, 2013 Applicant: Devgen NV Technologiepark 30, 9052 Zwijnaarde, Belgium Crop: Rice Proposed Denomination: PHDR0911 PHDR0911 is a short duration three-line rice hybrid that is highly suitable for the irrigated lowlands. It performs well both as a dry and wet season transplanted crop. This hybrid is early maturing and harvestable in 105 days or less. The mature plant reaches a height of <100 cm (semidwarf) and produces 14 productive tillers on average. PHDR0911 has an intermediate reaction to blast and bacterial leaf blight diseases and exhibits moderately resistant reaction both to the brown plant hopper and the green leaf hopper. It has long, slender grains with intermediate amylose content (22.95%), intermediate gelatinization temperature score (3.7), and cooked rice hardness of 3.0 kg/cm 2. It also has a grade 1 to premium milling recovery (67.6% to 70.5%) and grade 2 (44.4%) for head rice. In cooked form, the rice from this hybrid is white, slightly glossy, slightly cohesive, slightly tender, smooth, bland in taste, and has no aroma. 1
4 Applications Application Number: Filing Date: July 5, 2013 Applicant: Pioneer Hi-Bred Philippines, Inc. A DuPont Company 24 th Floor Antel Global Corporate Center, Doña Julia Vargas Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City, Philippines Crop: Rice Proposed Denomination: PHB81 PHB81 is a hybrid rice with a plant height of cm. This variety has tillers with a long and slender grain. This hybrid is early maturing ( days). PHB81 is resistant to some leaf diseases particularly bacterial leaf blight. Application Number: Filing Date: May 22, 2013 Applicant: East-West Seed Company (Inc.) Km. 54, Cagayan Valley Road, Sampaloc, San Rafael, Bulacan, Philippines Crop: Bittergourd Proposed Denomination: Mestisa F1 Mestisa F1 is a very high-yielding and attractive fruited bittergourd hybrid. The closest known varieties in description are Galaxy F1 and Galactica F1. Foremost, Mestisa F1 differ from Galaxy F1 because of its intermediate resistance (IR) to Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV), a polerovirus also locally known as namamarako. The level of resistance in Mestisa F1 is as Galactica F1, however Mestisa F1 has more distinguishable desirable fruit characteristics. Under similar growing conditions where we compared the three varieties, Mestisa F1 gave an average of 10 fruits per plant while Galaxy F1 and Galactica F1 yielded an average of 5 and 6 fruits per plant respectively. In an environment where there is high pressure of CABYV, Mestisa F1 yielded over ten times more than Galaxy F1 and seventy percent more than Galactica F1. The fruits of Mestisa F1 are light green, cylindrical in shape with an average length of 31 cm, weighing an average of 340 grams per fruit compared to the fruits of Galactica F1 which are dark green in color and tapered in shape, shorter in length (average length of 28.0 cm) and weigh an average of 300 grams per fruit and to the dark green, cylindrical, longer and heavier fruits of Galaxy F1 (average length of 33cm, 350 grams per fruit). Mestisa F1 fruits are very glossy, with smoother fruit surface compared to Galactica F1 fruits which are glossy but warty surface and Galaxy F1 fruits that are moderately glossy with smoother fruit surface. 2
5 Applications Application Number: Filing Date: May 22, 2013 Applicant: East-West Seed Company (Inc.) Km. 54, Cagayan Valley Road, Sampaloc, San Rafael, Bulacan, Philippines Crop: Eggplant Proposed Denomination: Fortuner F1 Fortuner F1 is a hybrid eggplant variety with moderate purple cylindrical fruits. Among the purple cylindrical eggplant varieties grown in the Philippines, one of the popular varieties is Morena F1. Both varieties have upright plant type but differences can be seen in the number of branches wherein Fortuner F1 has more upright branches than Morena F1. For fruits qualities, clear differences can be seen in fruit and calyx color. Fortuner F1 has moderate purple color and has relatively greener calyx than Morena F1. Also, the fruits of Fortuner F1 can last 2-3 days longer in ambient storage than Morena F1. Application Number: Filing Date: June 26, 2013 Applicant: Nayong Pilipino Foundation Nayong Pilipino Orchidarium, Rizal Park, Manila, Philippines Crop: Pink Butterfly Orchid Proposed Denomination: Phalaenopsis Nayong Pilipino 1 The plant is a monopodial orchid with short stem. The leaves are oval or oblong in shape about 6 cm x 12 cm in size slightly thick, and fleshy. The leaves are smooth and shiny, green on top and greenish violet in the underside. The flower is a typical standard Phalaenopsis orchid, medium sized, about 5 cm x 5 cm in size, with light pink petals and sepals with yellowish lip in the center. There are about five flowers in one inflorescence spike. The roots are fleshy and flat, greenish purple in color. 3
