H4 = plants hardy throughout the British Isles Photographic records of the AGM winners were made and are kept at Wisley Trial Notes: - Objectives: To assess, compare and demonstrate a range of cultivars submitted by individuals, raisers and nurserymen, following preliminary assessment by the Joint Iris Committee. Cultivation: The site was sterilised with Basamid in autumn 1999 and rotted farmyard manure incorporated. A trial of spinach was grown in early summer and then the site was prepared for the trial by rotovation on 12 July The Trial was planted in August/early September 2000 from either existing or submitted rhizomes, three plants of each entry at 46cm stations in rows 60cm apart. A section of the site was devoted to AGM winners with only one plant of each cultivar; these were grown as standards for interest and comparison. Flower stems were staked to assist reduction of weather damage. A top-dressing of Growmore granular fertiliser, 35g/variety, was applied each spring. Entries: There were 96 entries in the Trial, 29 of which already hold the Award of Garden Merit (AGM). Records: A record was made of flowering dates.

7 Judging: Members of the Joint Iris Committee inspected the trial on 21 May 2003, 28 May 2003 and 3 June 2003 and recommended the Award of Garden Merit (AGM) to ten entries listed above. A point system was applied as follows: Plant 35 points Flower 15 points Stem 15 points Presentation 20 points Entries, Senders and Awards: Name Sender AGM AM/E AGM Standards 'Alizes' 2000 'Black Sergeant' 'Bob Nichol' 2000 'Cardew' R E Nichol 1996 'Clear Morning Sky' 2000 'Cream Soda' 'Designer s Choice' N Scopes 'Dovedale' B L C Dodsworth 1993 'Dwight Enys' R E Nichol 2000 'Early Light' N Scopes 'Eileen Louise' B L C Dodsworth 2000 'Fern Oakley' 2000 'Garlanda' B C Baughen 2000 'Ice Dancer' 'Janine Louise' 2000 'Ken's Choice' 2000 'Lark Rise' 2000 'Midnight Web' 2000 'Mister Matthew' 2000 'Morwenna' R E Nichol 1996 'Nicola Jane' R E Nichol 'Olympic Torch' A T White 1993 resc ' 'Orange Dawn' S Linnegar 'Paradise' R E Nichol 1993 resc ' 'Paradise Bird' B L C Dodsworth 1993 'Pascoe' R E Nichol 1993 'Phil Keen' 1996 'River Avon' 2000 'Roman Emperor' B L C Dodsworth 1993 resc '02 Sdg 'Severn Side' 'Sherwood Pink' 1996 resc '02 'Sherwood Primrose' B L C Dodsworth 'Snowy Owl' 'Somerset Blue' [Sdg.
