2 beans, rice & popcorn Trinidad Benham is proud to be a leading marketer and advocate for dry edible beans and rice, two of the world s great food staples. Beans have been our core business since 1917, and we re committed to educating people about their positive benefits. When it comes to rice, Trinidad offers extensive varieties including long grain, medium and short grain rice, brown rice, instant rice, flavored rice mixes, specialty imported rice and organic rice. Popcorn is the perfectly fun, all- American snack food that makes any occasion more delicious. As the world has become more aware of diet and nutrition, popcorn has grown in popularity as a healthy snack option. Delicious, healthy and fun? Now that s a perfect recipe! Baby Lima Beans are named after their place of origin in Lima, Peru but that is not where they call home. They are now scattered throughout the world in a variety of dishes. They are said to be popular in Japanese desserts and a main ingredient in the American dish succotash. These plump-bodied, sweet in flavor kidney-shaped beans are also popular in soups, salads and spreads. Black Beans otherwise known as black turtle beans and frijoles negros, are small and round in size. These earthy flavored, shiny black beans are beloved in Mexico, Central and South America and all over the southwestern US. They are popular in salads, soups and burritos. Also try them as a topping on your baked potato or as a substitute in your traditional chili. Blackeye Peas are said to be brought to the US from Africa. This light, creamed colored, oblong bean has a defined black round eye on the curved inner side. They have a distinct flavor which is savory with a light crunchy texture. They are commonly found in the US dish called Hoppin John which if eaten on New Year s Eve is said to bring a prosperous year filled with luck. On top of that, they are a delicious addition to any chicken or pork dish! Cranberry Beans also called Roman Beans and October Beans are crimson speckled beans that originated in Italy but were enthusiastically adopted in America, Europe and Africa. With a mild taste, they are great in minestrone soup, pasta or a great side dish to any Italian entrée. Calories 90 Calories 80 Carbohydrate 24g Dietary Fiber 1
3 Dark Red Kidney Beans are well-known across the world referred to as badi rajmas in India. These beans are extremely popular due to their hearty, meaty and full-bodied flavor. They are popular in the Indian dish rajma and in American classics such as chili, stews, salads and soups. Other ideas are to serve over cornbread or use in vegetarian tacos these beans are extremely versatile. Green Split Peas are said to be native to Central Asia and Europe and were prized by the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece and Rome. These starchier, heartier legumes are best-known in split pea and ham soup but are also perfect as a side dish or in the Indian dish called dahl. Calories 110 Sodium 25mg Carbohydrate 27g Dietary Fiber 1 1 Decorticated Red Lentils have been cultivated for close to 10,000 years in the Near East. The name comes from its distinct shape two lens-shaped sides and their light red tint. They are slightly sweeter than regular lentils and cook a tad faster. Since they can become mushy quickly, they are best in soups and stews or in a variety of dahl recipes. Sodium 5mg Carbohydrate 1 Dietary Fiber Large Lima Beans are similar to the baby lima. Large limas are named after their place of origin Lima, Peru and are also known as butter beans. Yet, this larger version contains a fuller flavor and dates as far back as the 1500s. It is a great match with bacon, corn and onions making casseroles a popular lima bean dish. 7g Garbanzo Beans are also known as chick peas. These nut-like chewy textured beans have grown in popularity all across the world. They are popular in Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Indian cuisines. They have found their way into Spanish stews, various Mexican dishes and are commonly used in hummus and salads. Another popular dish that these beans are known for is falafel, a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground garbanzo beans. Dietary Fiber 1 Lentils have been cultivated for close to 10,000 years in the Near East. They became a popular food during Lent thousands of years ago when poor Catholics could not afford fish and needed a meat alternative. The name comes from its distinct shape two lens-shaped sides. They are known for their high protein content and their minute cook time, making them a great addition to soup, salad and pasta. Calories 90 Great Northern Beans are popular white beans in America, Canada, Asia and the Mediterranean. They have a slight nutty taste that readily absorbs flavors of other foods. Great Northerns can be used in any recipe calling for white beans and are popular in the French dish cassoulet and are great for baked beans, soups and salads. Dietary Fiber 1 Light Red Kidney Beans are known for their place in red beans and rice- an emblematic dish in Louisiana Creole cuisine. They are a separate variety from dark red kidney beans but are very similar in shape, taste and use. They have a less meaty flavor and a thinner skin. They can also be used in stews, salads and soups. Small red beans are sometimes used as a substitute, based on personal preference. Dietary Fiber 14g
4 Mayacoba Beans are yellow beans that are also known as Peruanos, which originated in Peru. They are thin-skinned, creamy beans that are meaty in texture and absorb flavors easily. Popular dishes are soups, chilis and salads. Calories 170 Carbohydrate 34g Dietary Fiber Small Red Beans are small, red and round. They are quick cooking and great in a variety of dishes because of their delicate flavor and soft texture. They are particularly popular in the Caribbean region where they are normally eaten with rice. Small red beans can also be used in Creole cuisine as a substitute for light red kidneys. Try them in chili, baked beans and salads. Calories 60 Sodium 25mg Dietary Fiber 16g 7g Navy Beans got their name from being served as a staple to sailors since the mid 1800s. They are also known as Boston beans and pea beans. These mild flavored beans are dense and smooth in texture. They are primarily found in pork and beans but can also be used in soups and salads. Calories 80 Small White Beans are extremely popular in the United Kingdom and in America. They are most often served as a compliment to pork dishes. Their small size and sweet, mild flavor also compliment a variety of meals, for example: white bean soup, white bean & tuna sandwiches and many different pastas. Dietary Fiber 14g Pink Beans are beloved in Puerto Rican cuisine and are quite popular in the western US. This creamy textured bean is also known as habichuela rosada and can be used as a substitute for all pinto and cranberry bean recipes. Find them in chilis, barbecue beans and even refried beans. White Kidney Beans are cream in color and were originally cultivated in Argentina but became an Italian stalwart, widely used in their cuisine around the world. This variety has a very smooth texture with an elusive nutty flavor that easily absorbs different flavors. Calories 130 Sodium 9mg Dietary Fiber 2g Pinto Beans have a beige background strewn with reddish brown splashes of color. They look like little painted canvases hence their name, which means painted in Spanish. They are the most highly consumed dried bean in North America and are also known as red Mexican beans. Refried beans are the most common dish, yet they are great in chilis and a variety of southwestern dishes. Calories 60 Dietary Fiber 14g Whole Green Peas are said to have helped fight off a famine in England around A large kettle of thick porridge made of peas hung over the fire in many English homes because few of the peasants could afford meat. These starchier, heartier legumes have come a long way since then and are great in not only soups, but salads, pasta and casseroles. Calories 100 Carbohydrate 24g Dietary Fiber 7g

6 Parboiled Rice is the same as converted rice. Parboiled rice is steam treated at the processing stage. It gets pressure steamed and then dried, which helps the rice become less sticky and more separate when cooked. This method also holds in more nutrients. Parboiled rice is ideal for restaurants and caterers due to the fact that it holds well at a high temperature which is perfect for buffet lines or serving large groups. It has the same great versatility as any other rice, a great addition to any meal.
