Regards Neil Red Wines 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Bin x 75cl Robert Parker: 97 points Drink: Leafy cassis notes mark the nose of the 2016 Bin 169 Cabernet Sauvignon. It's also floral yet dense and concentrated. Fullbodied and rich on the palate, it exudes class and balance at the same time. It's a super expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Australia's premier regions for the grape variety, ending on lingering notes of cocoa, cassis and pencil shavings Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 407 Robert Parker: 90 points Slightly herbal and leafy on the nose, the deep, currant-scented 2016 Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon blends fruit from five different regions of South Australia. It's medium to full-bodied, with soft, measured tannins and true Cabernet identity. Aged in French and American oak, there are some cedar and mocha notes apparent on the nose and finish, but the cassis fruit carries the day Cabernet Sauvignon Bin x 75cl 1, Robert Parker: 98 points Drink: Aged in American oak, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 707 stands out for its bold aromas of vanilla, tobacco and cassis. This year, it's close to 40% each from Coonawarra and McLaren Vale, with smaller proportions from Barossa Valley and the Adelaide Hills. It's full-bodied and rich, with a velvety mouthfeel, great intensity and super length. Yes, it's embryonic, but it's not unapproachable, much like any other high-quality New World Cabernet these days, with the ability to age for two decades or more.

2 2016 Cabernet/Shiraz Bin x 150cl The 2016 Cabernet / Shiraz Bin 389 is a blend of 51% Cabernet and 49% Shiraz, the least amount of Cabernet you'll ever see in this bottling. It's dark and stolid, with notes of cassis and blackberry along with touches of vanilla and cedar. Full-bodied and dense, it's firmly in the Penfolds style and the style of this particular bottling, which always ages well, even if it's not the flashiest or most flamboyant offering from Penfolds Pinot Noir Bin 23 6 x 75cl Shiraz Bin x 75cl Drink: Sourced exclusively from Coonawarra, the 2016 Bin 128 Shiraz is one of the few truly regional bottlings you'll find from Penfolds. It's red-fruited and bright, with raspberries and cherries couched in supple layers of French oak. Caramel and mocha shadings add richness and depth, with dry cedary-savory notes on the finish Shiraz Cabernet Bin 8 6 x 75cl Shiraz 'Grange' Bin 95 6 x 75cl 2, x 150cl 2, Robert Parker: 98 points Drink: Rich, concentrated and intense, the 2014 Grange delivers exactly what we've come to expect from this Penfolds icon wine. It's full-bodied, velvety in feel and loaded with plummy fruit, framed in vanilla and cedar. Dense, powerful and tannic, it should prove to be long lived, even by Grange standards. Gago doesn't rate the vintage overall that highly, but he says the selection this year for Grange was a bit more stringent and that production levels were just average Shiraz 'Kalimna' Bin 28 6 x 75cl Drink: The full-bodied 2016 Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz is a blend of fruit from Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Upper Adelaide and Wrattonbully. It's a warm-climate, rich, plush Shiraz, with a velvety mouthfeel and lingering savory notes on the finish Shiraz 'Magill Estate' 6 x 75cl The 2016 Shiraz Magill Estate aged in 100% new oak (70% French and 30% American), which has left its cedary, vanilla mark on the wine, but in a balanced, harmonious way. It's a full-bodied wine, with big berry fruit and lavish oak, yet those components are wonderfully judged, coming together in a fine, elegant wine that showcases the brand's home estate in the Adelaide suburbs. With only 15 cases for the United States, it will be tough to track down Shiraz 'Maranaga' Bin 150 Robert Parker: 94 points Unlike the Kalimna Shiraz, which is a multiregional blend, the 2016 Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz comes from that specific subregion of the Barossa Valley. It's a clear step up and a lovely wine, with bold berry fruit flavors framed by cedar and vanilla. It's full-bodied and plush, with that generous Barossa Valley character married to the dense Penfolds house style.

3 2017 Shiraz Mataro Bin 2 6 x 75cl Shiraz 'RWT' Bin x 75cl x 150cl Robert Parker: 97 points The 2016 RWT Shiraz is Penfolds's embodiment of Barossa Valley Shiraz. Aged in French oak (72% new), it offers hints of vanilla and cedar, but more than anything, it showcases the region's bold berry and plum fruit. Full-bodied and rich, verging on decadent, yet firmly structured and long on the finish, it's a powerful yet elegant wine that is capable of being consumed young or aging up to two decades. Having embarked on a career in the wine business right around the time the first RWT was released, it's a treat to see how the latest version is showing. It's a relative bargain among the Penfolds upper echelon Shiraz 'St Henri' 6 x 75cl x 150cl Robert Parker: 93 points Black olive and plum notes form the base of the 2015 Shiraz St Henri, a wine that sees no new oak (it's aged entirely in old foudres). This vintage includes 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives a bit of lift and a leafy, floral note on the nose. It's medium to full-bodied, with a firm, structured feel and ample tannins to ensure 20-plus years of longevity Shiraz/Grenache/Mataro Bin x 75cl Drink: The 2016 Bin 138 Shiraz-Grenache-Mataro is heavily tilted toward Shiraz (72%), with 16% Grenache and 12% Mataro, aged in older French and American hogsheads. Black olive, raspberry and herbal notes all come together smoothly on the medium to full-bodied palate, framed by supple tannins and bright acidity on the lingering finish. White Wines 2017 Chardonnay 'Reserve' Bin 17A 6 x 75cl Chardonnay 'Tumbarumba' Bin x 75cl Robert Parker: 93 points Drink: Struck match, touches of toasted hazelnut and grilled peach and fresh lime notes give the 2017 Chardonnay Bin 311 ample complexity on the nose and palate. It's medium-bodied, with a touch of creaminess on the mid-palate and a long, silky finish. New for this year, it's a blend of fruit from the Adelaide Hills (56%), Tasmania (27%) and Tumbarumba (17%)..it's a serious, classy wine for a very reasonable price Chardonnay 'Yattarna' 6 x 75cl Gently toasted almond and subtle pencil shavings give some indication of the 35% new French oak that was used to age the 2016 Chardonnay Yattarna. Ripe peach, pear and melon fruit fills out the medium to full-bodied palate, then really grows in intensity and focus on the long finish. This is the most complete Yattarna I've ever tasted, blending richness and acidity in a seamless fashion. It's a blend of fruit from Tasmania (51%), Henty (23%), Adelaide Hills (14%) and Tumbarumba (12%) Riesling Bin 51 6 x 75cl Robert Parker: 92 points Classic lime sherbet notes mark the nose of the 2018 Riesling Bin 51. It's leafy and fresh, then folds in hints of riper fruit on the palate, such as peach and pear. Crushed stone and wet moss give it a firm grounding in the earth as well. Crisp, lean and long, it shimmers with positive sunshine and energy, vibrant and lingering on the finish.

4 Fortified Wines Father 10 year old (Gift Pack) NV 6 x 75cl Robert Parker: 90 points The 10 year old, pale amber-tawny colored Father Grand Tawny is intensely scented of dried mulberries, sultanas, treacle and caramel with a marmalade lift. Big, expressive and rich with a nuttiness in the mouth, it finishes very long and very sweet. Grandfather (Gift Pack) NV 6 x 75cl Robert Parker: 92 points The 20 year old Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny is a pale tawny color with a touch of brick. On the nose it is a bit spirituous and shows notes of raisins and fruit cake, some hazelnut and crème brulée. The palate shows even more nuttiness and depth along with greater freshness and acidity, though it seems drier than the Father. It finishes very long almost like a sweet oloroso or amontillado. Great Grandfather (Gift Pack) NV 6 x 75cl The 30 year old Penfolds Great Grandfather Rare Tawny is pale tawny in color and has a more profound nose than the Grandfather or Father labels of this style. The nose presents some earthy notes that wrap a complex spiciness around a core of Christmas cake, dried fruits, milk chocolate and incense. It s a huge wine in the mouth - very serious stuff - with tons of layers and racy acid line to carry the flavor through the very long finish that also has a pleasant minerality. 50 Year Old Rare Tawny NV 1 x 75cl 1, Robert Parker: 99 points Pale tawny/amber colored with a green tinge at the rim, the NV 50 Year Old Rare Tawny (Series Three) has a gorgeous walnut and fruit cake-laced nose with a core of liquid licorice, coffee, treacle, roasted nuts and salted caramel. 5 The success of Penfolds has been driven by the generations of visionaries and innovators. From the beginning in 1844 to today, the merging of science, art and innovation has driven Penfolds to become one of Australia s most famed and respected winemakers. '1844 to evermore!' 1844 After the success of early sherries and fortified wines, founders Dr Christopher and Mary Penfold planted their vine cuttings they had carried on their voyage over to Australia. In 1844 the fledging vineyard was officially established as the Penfolds wine company at Magill Estate As the company grew, so too did Dr Penfold s medical reputation, leaving much of the running of the winery to Mary Penfold. Early forays into Clarets and Rieslings proved increasingly popular, and on Christopher s death in 1870, Mary assumed total responsibility for the winery. Mary s reign at the helm of Penfolds saw years of determination and endeavour By the time Mary Penfold retired in 1884 (ceding management to her daughter, Georgina) Penfolds was producing 1/3 of all South Australia s wine. She d set an agenda that continues today, experimenting with new methods in wine production. By Mary s death in 1896, the Penfolds legacy was well on its way to fruition. By 1907, Penfolds had become South Australia s largest winery In 1948, history was made again as Max Schubert became the company s first Chief Winemaker. A loyal company man and true innovator, Schubert would propel Penfolds onto the global stage with his experimentation of long-lasting wines - the creation of Penfolds Grange in the 1950s In 1959 (while Schubert was perfecting his Grange experiment in secret), the tradition of bin wines began. The first, a Shiraz wine with the grapes of the company s own Barossa Valley vineyards was simply named after the storage area of the cellars where it is aged. And so Kalimna Bin 28 becomes the first official Penfolds Bin number wine. Late 20th Century In 1960, the Penfolds board instructed Max Schubert to officially re-start production on Grange. His determination and the quality of the aged wine had won them over. Soon, the medals began flowing and Grange quickly became one of the most revered wines around the world. In 1988 Schubert was named Decanter Magazine s Man of the Year, and on the 50th anniversary of its birth, Penfolds Grange was given a heritage listing in South Australia. 21st Century Despite great success, Penfolds never rests on its laurels. In 2012 Penfolds released its most innovative project to date - 12 handcrafted ampoules of the rare 2004 Kalimna Block Cabernet Sauvignon. Two years later, Penfolds celebrated the 170th anniversary having just picked up a perfect score of 100 for the 2008 Grange in two of the world s most influential wine magazines.
