2 The Plett wine industry started 14 years ago when Peter Thorpe planted the first vineyard. Discovering the perfect piece of land in The Crags area, with gentle slopes and cool sea breezes, he found the conditions excellent for vine growth. The first vines, Sauvignon Blanc, were planted in 2000, pioneering the wine industry in Plett, now classified as a Wine of Origin region. This has led to the growth of 16 new wine vineyards in the region, producing a variety of cultivars, including Méthode Cap Classique, Sauvigon Blanc and Rose bottles are produced annually, with the Sauvignon Blanc being considered equal to the one that is produced on the Malboro estates in New Zealand. THE PLETT WINELANDS Not far behind, Plett realised the potential for a unique and very special wine route to link the wine farms and include the variety of natural attractions and unique accommodation in the area. THE PLETT SLACKPACKING TRAILS Growing with mass popularity, slackpacking in Plett will soon be a reality. With amazing natural beauty and pristine coastline, they may be some of the best slackpacking trails in South Africa. Trails will include area marine, bird and indigenous wildlife, geology and forests, palaeontology and other eco attractions and of course the wine vineyards. THE PLETT WINE & BUBBLY FESTIVAL 4th & 5th OCTOBER 2014 The 2014 Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival is a joint venture between Plett Tourism and the 16 wine vineyards, with the intention to become an annual event. The festival is a two day event with additional social events to choose from, between the 6th and 12th of October to be hosted by some of the established wine estates, country lodges and adventure tourism operators.

Family-owned and run, Bramon, the first wine estate this far east of the Western Cape, has broken new ground by pioneering vineyards in the Plettenberg Bay area.

Bramon Cellar's renown cellar master, Anton Smal vinifies grapes from the press up to bottling, for their own wines and other farms in the area.

Wines can be tasted and purchased at the conveniently situated Tasting Centre on the N2. Bramon's Restaurant and cathedral-like Cellar caters for tailor-made functions and weddings.

Langorous lunches set in the vineyards overlooking the Elephant Sanctuary and Tsitsikamma Mountains, makes an afternoon a pleasure and treat!

It's fresh in flavour and well rounded with a spicy citrus and melon aroma. We like drinking it with lunch and friends. Sauvignon Blanc 2013 R75/bottle R450/case Simple and sophisticated, this Sauvignon Blanc is full of flavour, and complex with a subtle lime, gooseberry and passion fruit aroma. It's fresh, unique and delicious, and we try to savour it slowly (but usually don't succeed). It came 4th out of 90 wines in the world Sauvignon Blanc Celebration held by Bartho Eksteen.
