1 WELCOME TO CAMBODIA

2 ABOUT WINE TO WATER Who We Are Wine to Water s US staff consists of 6 full-time and 5 part-time members. We consider ourselves family but live in different parts of the country and are seldom in the same place at once. We are united by our passion for clean water and the joy we get from working with our local partners on the ground. Wine To Water has worked in 17 countries. We have ongoing projects in 7 countries on 4 continents, and support thirty international aid workers. Our Mission Wine To Water is a non-profit organization focused on providing clean water & sanitation to people in need around the world. Nearly 800 million people in the world today lack access to adequate water and 2.5 billion people lack access to improved sanitation. We are devoted to fighting this epidemic. Wine symbolizes fortune in our society. Our goal is to give the fortunate population an opportunity to fight for those who can't fight for themselves. What We Do Each project is unique, but the common theme is that we use local people in each country. We develop leaders in the community and educate them on proper water and sanitation methods to promote sustainable. Our work empowers the local community to help them meet their ongoing needs. With every project, the common thread in our work is: -Insuring that the proper type of water system is used for that specific community -Our methods include shallow & deep wells, well repairs, ceramic water filters, bio-sand filters, Sawyer filters, and rain-water harvest tanks -We also improve sanitation using latrine and hygiene education -We use local materials whenever possible -We monitor and report on all our projects -We are constantly developing our programs and striving for more efficient systems How We Began Doc Hendley is the founder and international president of Wine To Water. In 2003 he dreamed up the concept of the organization, while bartending and playing music in nightclubs around Raleigh, North Carolina. The first fundraiser was held in January of 2004 and by August of that year Doc was living in Darfur, Sudan installing water systems for victims of the government supported genocide. When Doc returned home in August of 2005, the haunting memories of what he had seen in Darfur drove him to continue building the organization he started two years earlier. Our Partners We have 30 international, on the ground partners including: Agua y Vida Filter Pure Connect Africa & SP-UK Water is Life Kone Kmeng Zakat Foundation In 2007, with the addition of Vice President Annie Marion, Wine To Water became an official 501(c)(3) non-profit. In 2009 Doc and the work of the Wine To Water team was recognized by the CNN Heroes program, launching the organization's efforts globally. Doc's dream, and the goal of Wine To Water, is to quench the thirst of those in need.

10 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: What should a team pack? A: Work clothes, work gloves, shorts, church outfit, warm jacket, Bible, notebook, closed-toe work shoes (tennis shoes are fine), sunscreen, camera (optional), hat, personal medications, mosquito spray, and passport. Q: What airport should we plan to fly into? A:Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) Q: Is there a dress code? A: We ask that both men and women dress modestly: no shorts. Q: Will a children's program need to be prepared? A: Yes, children's programs are available and you should prepare something ahead of time! There can be anywhere from children at one time, ages 6-15 years old. Any creative activity for indoors and outdoors would be great! Q: What type of payments are accepted in your country? A: The US dollar can be used almost everywhere in Cambodia (preferably the smaller bills: $1, $5, $10 and $20). Cambodian currency is Riel. Exchange rate is 4,000 Riels per $1 USD. Q: Are the electrical outlets the same as they are in the US? A: The electricity system in Cambodia has a conglomeration of various plugs and sockets. The only thing consistent is that it is 220V and 50Hz. Even though some of the outlets may be similar to the US (2 prong plug-in), some appliances will explode if they are not used without an adapter/transformer. You will need to check on the actual appliance to see what the voltage range is. Most computers, cameras, and cell phones go up to 240 voltage. The type of sockets: Simple plug adapters are inexpensive and available for around $0.50 USD. Voltage adapters are also available, and prices vary depending on the quality, most of them being made in China. Q: What will meals be like? A: Khmer food mainly consists of fried foods, soup with meats (chicken, beef, pork, and fish), and rice. Breakfast is usually served with noodle soup, pork fried rice, and chicken. Western-style food is usually available in the city.

11 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: What is the weather like? A: We encourage all of our volunteers to check the weather before departing, but it is usually around 75 degrees. Q: What is the recommended group size? A: Our partnering organization, Kone Kmeng, can host a team up to 15 people at one time. Q: Will there be snacks to purchase? A: We recommend bringing your own snacks from home, but there is an abundance of mini-markets that have snacks for purchase. Q: What are the living conditions like? A: In Phnom Penh, the team will stay at Kone Kmeng's guesthouse, which is called the Green Pasture Inn. Here you will have access to hot water, AC, Wi-Fi, towels and pillows. You will most likely share a room with another guest in twin size beds, but there are a few rooms with double beds for single occupants. When you travel to the province of Svay Rieng, the team will stay at the guesthouse or hotel, which will provide very similar accomodations as the Green Pasture Inn. Q: Is there a way to contact home? A: We encourage you to unplug while on your service trip. Even if internet is available, we ask that the time spent online is kept to a minimal so that you can fully engage in the experience. In case of emergency, Skype will be available to team leaders, as well as limited phone calls. Q: Do we need a visa? A: Yes, you need a visa! You can apply online or at the airport when you arrive. NOTE: If you decide to apply at the airport in Cambodia, you need to have a passport and a passport size photo to get your visa. Either way, you will have to pay $20 USD for your 30-day tourist visa. Q: Is there an age requirement? A: Individual: If you are traveling as an individual, you must be between the ages of 18 and 65. Group: If you are traveling in a group, the age requirement is up to the leader of your group. Keep in mind that Wine to Water has a policy that anyone age 16 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for this location. Q: What can a team bring to donate?
