February 2017 Calendar Friday, February 3 Midterms posted for grades 3-5 Tuesday, February 7 PTA meeting at 6:30 PM at Simmons Elementary Art Room. February 10 Staff Development; No School. February 20---President s Day; No School REMINDER: School is dismissed at 3:00 p.m. Please be prompt to pick up your children. There is NO supervision after 3:10 p.m. We ask that all children be picked up by 3:10 p.m.

Kindergarten Registration Registration for 2017-2018 Kindergarten begins January 5 th. Parents must have a copy of a certified Birth Certificate, Immunization Record, and Proof of Residence.

There will be no Kindergarten screening; however, if you feel there is a need for a screening for your child, there is a pre-school (DIAL) screening available each month.

Kindergarten Open House is 3:30-4:30pm, Thursday, April 21. Simmons Elementary School Spring Program Thursday, May 4 th Simmons Elementary Track & Field Day Friday May 12 th Box Top winners for January were: Molly Peterson and Riley O Keefe. Congratulations! PARKING AND SAFETY OF OUR KIDS: Please do not come into the North parking lot. This is a staff parking lot and along with teachers, our students and Simmons Middle School kids walk through this lot. Every year we have close calls with staff and students almost being hit. Please choose safety over convenience and drop your students off in front of the school or on the South end by the playground. We appreciate you making the safety of our students and staff a priority!

Simmons 4 th graders will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on 02-23-2017.

3 Simmons 4 th graders will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. It is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, with the U.S. Department of Education. NAEP is different from our state assessment because it provides a common measure of student achievement across the country. The results are released as The Nation s Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents, policymakers and the public. Books for the February Character Trait Caring and Compassion The Yelduz Shrine has generously donated twelve bikes to Simmons Elementary again this year.

4 Books for the February Character Trait Caring and Compassion The Yelduz Shrine has generously donated twelve bikes to Simmons Elementary again this year. They are donating these bikes to help promote reading and character education in our school. We will run the same program as last school year. Any student who is chosen for a character award will have their name in the drawing. Any student who does a book report on a book highlighting that month s character trait will have their name in the drawing. The drawing will be held in May. The blank book reports are in the office. The teachers also have the list of books corresponding to the current character trait.
