Register Following our earlier request for expressions of interest only, we are now following up with full details of the arrangements that we have put in place for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. QUEEN S DIAMOND JUBILEE RIVER PAGEANT SUNDAY, 3RD JUNE 2012 Venue: Aqua Brasserie Address: 9 St George s Wharf, Vauxhall, London, SW8 2LE Time: 12:00 noon prompt 17:00 approx. Rig: Smart Casual Rig (inc. foul weather clothing, if necessary) The Aqua Brasserie ( has been booked for this event. Being part of the recently opened St George's Wharf development by Vauxhall Bridge (south side), this venue should give us an excellent uninterrupted view of the River Pageant (including our entry Spirit of Avalon) after it has assembled upriver and passes us during the afternoon in its final formation in the long reach between Battersea Bridge and Vauxhall Bridge. Spirit of Avalon will be located in Section 7, Recreational Motor Boats (RMS), of the pageant. Position D11, ie: 11th boat in RMS line closest to the Surrey Bank & the Aqua Restaurant. There will be four lines. Arrival Time We have arranged for members and their guests to have a priority viewing position for the Pageant, and for the lunch beforehand they will be seated as close as permissible to the water to enable them to move into standing position on the river bank itself when spectators begin to take up their viewing positions. Whilst the pageant is scheduled to start up-river at 14.30, with the first boats likely to pass at about 14.40, it is impossible to predict when spectators will start to get into position. We strongly encourage all to arrive early, not later than 12:00 noon, which should enable you first to socialise and to enjoy the lunch before taking up you viewing positions. Breakfast/morning coffee is available for purchase earlier for the very early birds! Food and Drink The Brasserie will be serving a substantial, self-service buffet lunch, with the following menu: Bread and olives Greek Salad with marinated fetta and sunblushed tomato Confit of chicken oysters, rosemary jus and seasonal vegetable Beef Stroganoff Seafood paella with saffron rice Greek Baklava and season fresh fruit Cost per head (children aged 11 or under: per head) Upon receipt of payment from members for themselves and their guests, the Club will issue vouchers to cover the number of their entire party, for presentation to Brasserie staff. The Brasserie has an extensive bar for the purchase of wines, spirits, 1 of 5

2 beer (including draught bitters and lagers) and soft drinks. Drinks can be served at table, at bar price plus 12.5% service charge. Alternatively, drinks can be obtained on a self-service basis at the bar itself. A tab service is available leave a debit/credit card at the bar in the usual way to guarantee payment. Assistance on the Day Committee members David Monks and Hugh Stewart will be at the Brasserie on the day to provide any assistance that may be required. Getting to Aqua Brasserie Please click here to open a Google map. Parking: There is limited underground parking at the location, which has a lift providing access to ground level. Members should be aware that traffic is likely to be very heavy that day, so plan to leave home on the day early. Its cost is only 1.50 per hour for up to 6 hours after parking your vehicle ask the Brasserie to issue you with a special ticket enabling you to pay at the ticket machine at the discounted rate before exiting. Rail access: The Brasserie is an easy five minutes walk from Vauxhall Station, which serves both South-West Trains and other train services from and to London Waterloo and Clapham Junction. It is also on the London Underground, Victoria Line. Directions by foot from Vauxhall Station: Exit the station in the direction of the river and the Underground. Cross the first road and go down the steps into the Underground Station on the central island. At the bottom, immediately skirt round to the left and take Exit No 6 signed New Covent Garden Market / Wandsworth Road. At the top of the slope, walk ahead past Powell House and immediately past a BT phone box on your left, turn right, leaving Phoenix House on your left sign above says The Crescent. Go across the service road, up the steps and onto Piazza Colonnade. The Brasserie is to be found on the left hand side immediately beyond the end of the colonnade before reaching the river and St George s Wharf Pier. 2. DAY VISIT TO GREENWICH - MONDAY 4TH JUNE A day visit has been planned for the Bank Holiday Monday to Greenwich, one of the World Heritage sites, which the Queen has made a royal borough to mark her Diamond Jubilee and in recognition of its close links with royalty since the Middle Ages. The visit will combine both a guided tour of the Old Royal Naval College and a group visit to the special exhibition at the National Maritime Museum "Royal River". a) Guided Tour of the Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) We have arranged a guided tour of Sir Christopher Wren s twin-domed masterpiece on the River Thames, including visits to the beautiful Painted Hall and Chapel. Meet at: The Main Entrance (West Gate) Start time: 11:00 Expected end time: 12:30 approx Lunch At the end of the tour, participants will be free to make their own arrangements for lunch. Within the grounds of ORNC is the Old Brewery, a micro-brewery which provides a wide choice of snacks and dishes, but Greenwich has numerous other cafés, restaurants and bars. 2 of 5

3 b) Group visit to the National Maritime Museum and the Special Exhibition: Royal River Power, Pageantry and The Thames A group booking will be obtained (avoiding the queues) to visit this special exhibition, at the National Maritime Museum, which brings together nearly 400 beautiful, fascinating and often unique objects, including one of the largest-ever loans of Royal Collection objects. Created to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and guest-curated by historian David Starkey, Royal River presents the historic Thames in all its glory from British royal and City events to London s famous watermen. Meet at: The Main Entrance to NMM in Romney Road Time: 14:30 Following the exhibition visit, if time permits, you may gain free access to the Museum itself. Cost For both (a) the ORNC tour and (b) the NMM exhibition visit, the cost is 15 per head Getting to Greenwich By Docklands Light Railway (DLR): The nearest DLR station to the ORNC is "Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich". The ORNC is a five minute walk from the station. There is a lift from the Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich platform and a stair-free route from the DLR to the ORNC. The DLR provides public transport links from London Bank (Central, Northern and Waterloo and City lines), Monument (District and Circle line), Canary Wharf (Jubilee line), Tower Gateway, Lewisham, Stratford and Limehouse. By rail: Mainline rail services run from Charing Cross, Waterloo East, Cannon Street, London Bridge and Dartford to Greenwich. Greenwich station is located in Zone 2 and 3 and is 12 minutes away from the ORNC. Turn left when you leave Greenwich station to head for the town centre. You can also take the DLR from the station to Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich (see By DLR). By river: Regular riverboat services leave from Westminster, Embankment and Tower Piers to Greenwich Pier. Thames Clipper run an express service (with discounted tickets for travelcard holders) every 20 minutes. All piers are wheelchair accessible as are the boats of Thames Clippers and City Cruises. Greenwich Pier is located on the river, a two minute walk away from ORNC. Transportation afterwards Boat transportation to Tower Pier: Those members and their guests wishing to attend the evening functions below will be able to board a boat on a group booking (again avoiding queues) leaving Greenwich Pier bounds for St Katharine s Yacht Haven at 17:30. Cost: 4.75 per head 3. EVENING PONTOON PARTY AND INFORMAL DINNER IN ST KATHARINES YACHT HAVEN - MONDAY, 4TH JUNE a) Pontoon Party The Club s entry in the River Pageant, Spirit of Avalon, will move to St Katharine s Yacht Haven (downstream of the Tower of London) during the morning of Monday 4th June and Martin Alexander has kindly agreed that we can follow the tradition of a Club Meet and repeat the history created upon the visit of Club boats to London in July 2009 with a Pontoon Party alongside his boat, when sparkling wine and 'nibbles' will be served. 4 b) Informal Dinner Venue: Riverlounge Italian Address: 50 St Katharines Way, London, E1W 1LA Time: 19:00 to 21:00 Rig: Smart Casual Rig Again, history will be repeated by our holding another dinner in this popular and well-reviewed restaurant. Although its management has recently changed, the sub-committee recently visited this restaurant to sample its food, wine and service and were much impressed. Next Steps Bookings should be made using the Register button, as soon as possible and by 20:00 on Monday 7 May at the latest in order to facilitate dinner and berth bookings. Very important: new procedure for booking events We are using this new procedure for all event bookings from now on: Each Member should book only themselves and their non-member guests - do not book other Members as your guests. Each Member should therefore make their own booking. The above applies to family members too. Cheques can include payment for multiple participants, write the surname of each of your party on the back to assist us with allocating cheques to bookings. This new procedure will give better visibility of participants to other club members and will assist communication from the organisers to participants.
