1 Montadale Mover Express Spring 2014 New Address for Registration work Due to an aging software program that is starting to degrade and the time and cost of developing a new program, the MSBA Board has voted to out-source our registration work to accuregister, managed by John Savage, Darlington, PA. The transition began June 2nd. Breeders will be able to send work both by U.S. Mail and electronically just as in the past. Ability to pay by check, pay-pal or with a credit card. Checks will still be made out to MSBA In addition to registrations & transfers, you will also contact accuregister when christening rams/ewes or requesting duplicates. accuregister guarantees work within 10 business days which is the same as most breed registries. This may be longer than what you have experienced with MSBA, so please plan accordingly The Montadale web-site will have a link to accuregister. MSBA will continue to receive Annual Dues, Booster Dues, Jr Association and Endowment contributions, All-American Junior Show award/raffle ticket money, and E. H. Mattingly show entries. If you are sending registry work to accuregister, you can send these payments in the same check which will be forwarded to MSBA. A new registration certificate is printed each time a Montadale is transferred with the new owner s name printed on the front of the certificate. We believe the MSBA data to be correct. The name of the current Director, the respective State or Regional Association and the District Number follows: Cheryl Butya District 1 Pearce McKinney District 2 Bill Poppen District 3 John Coers District 4 Patty Abell District 6 These directorships will be for three-year terms. The above directors who wish to remain on the Board of Directors should file their intent for reelection by June 23, 2014, for consideration by the Nominating Committee. Other Montadale breeders who would like to file for any of the above positions must send a letter of intent indicating the position for which they would like to be considered. Letters of Intent are due on or before October 1, To be eligible for a directorship, an individual must be a senior member currently producing and have produced Montadales for a period of five years. Districts which experience a vacancy due to a director s resignation will receive a letter of solicitation for director candidates in August with candidates Intents to be returned by October 1st. Voting for national directorships is done through the association office by sealed ballot. To be eligible to vote, you must be a senior member with your current dues paid. All senior paid-up members within each district will receive a ballot. Ballots are mailed approximately the 15th of October and remain sealed until the Semi-Annual meeting of the Board of Directors meeting held at the N.A.I.L.E. Show in Louisville. Ballots are opened and counted at said meeting. Annual Board of Directors Meeting The Annual Board of Directors meeting will be held in Sedalia, Missouri, in conjunction with the Midwest Stud Ram Sale on Monday morning, June 23rd at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will open with short session which can be attended by members. This session will provide an opportunity for members to ask questions, raise concerns, or offer their assistance with certain projects. 4 Jim & Dorothy Handy National Junior Show 8:00 a.m. Monday, June 23rd, 2014, Sedalia, MO Judge: Eric Bruns, Powell, OH JUNIOR EWE SHOW SPECIAL The Jim & Dorothy Handy National Junior Show is held in conjunction with the National Montadale Show & Sale and consists of a Junior Ewe Show, and Showmanship competition Ewes entered in the Junior Show may be consigned to the National Sale. All Junior Show sheep must be penned by 7:00 A.M., June 23rd. Depending on space, Junior sheep may be penned in a separate barn, but those entered in the Sale can be moved to the Sale barn after the Junior Show. Juniors must supply their own bedding and a health paper for entries. All sheep must have a scrapie premise tag. NO temporary or permanent coloring or removal of color is allowed. Exhibitors must be a Junior member of the Montadale Sheep Breeders Association and bring registration papers showing that they are the current owner. All Junior Sheep must be pre-entered. An entry blank for the Jim & Dorothy Handy National Junior Show is at There will be classes for Yearling Ewes, Fall, Spring and Slicked Spring Ewe Lambs plus Pair of Ewes (Yearling, Fall, Spring or mixed) Large classes may be split depending on numbers. Exhibitors limited to two premiums per class A $10 entry fee is charged for Junior Ewe Show Special sheep. Awards include banners, along with premiums and/or Association Credits which will be mailed to the exhibitors. All entrants must be able to show their own sheep, with assistance from another junior, if necessary. SHOWMANSHIP Showmanship competition is open to all Juniors. Juniors present who did not show a ewe and wish to participate, can borrow a Montadale from an exhibitor of a different Age Division for Showmanship purposes. Junior Division - age 8 and under Intermediate Division - ages 9 through 14 Senior Division - ages 15 through 21 JIM & DOROTHY HANDY MONTADALE SCHOLARSHIP The National Junior Endowment Fund will award a $500 scholarship at the National Show & Sale in June. Applicants must be or have been a Junior member of the Montadale Sheep Breeders Association for a minimum of five years. Applicant must be an incoming freshman or enrolled in (a) Four-year college or university (b) Two-year community or junior college; (c) Vocation-Technical School. Scholarship applications are available at our web-site: Applications must be received by the association office by June 20th. The recipient will be announced at the Banquet on Wednesday June 25th. NEW! N AT I O N A L M O N TA D A L E AMBASSADOR PROGRAM The National Montadale Ambassador Program is open to Junior members who are 16 years of age on June 23rd and who were not more than 20 years of age on January 1, Applicant and/or immediate family must own Montadale sheep and have paid their respective annual dues for a minimum of three years including this year. Contestants should bring a copy of a prepared speech which would be suitable to give when they are introduced at events. The speech should last 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Contestants will give their respective speeches to theambassador Selection Committee and at the Annual Banquet. Juniors will receive a shirt to wear to events, embroidered with National Montadale Ambassador and will receive $100 at the end of their term upon receipt of a written report of their activities and events attended. Any Junior meeting the above requirements may apply. Up to three National Ambassadors may be chosen in any one year. Ambassador applications are available at our web-site: The goal of the National Montadale Ambassador Program is to give all of our juniors an opportunity to develop public speaking and salesmanship skills. 5 MONTADALE EWE LAMB FUTURITY ALL Juniors MUST be a member of the Montadale Junior Association to participate in the Futurity Program. Must be nominated at a recognized sale where Montadales are sold by auction. Must be purchased in Junior's name on day of sale and remain in Junior's name at all times to maintain eligibility. No substitutions allowed. Ewes will be recorded by both the flock tag and scrapie tag. Exhibitors may accumulate points on more than one animal but, only one premium will be awarded to an exhibitor. This will be for the exhibitor's ewe that has accumulated the most points. Points may be accumulated at Junior/4-H/FFA or Open shows at county level and above. Only one show per fair will be counted (ie. My State Fair Junior Show or My State Fair Open Show) Points will begin at the All-American Junior Show. Points will end at the conclusion of Keith Crome National Junior Show at NAILE. Points Affidavit must be returned within 21 days to the Association office. Points Affidavit must be signed and dated with the Superintendent s phone number. All shows count, but winner must accrue points from at least one double-point show. The following are double-point shows: State Fair open or Junior/4H/FFA shows; All American Junior Show, KILE open or junior show, and NAILE Junior Show Photos would be greatly appreciated Points Placing # of Points The Yearling Ewe Futurity has been temporarily suspended. The Ewe Lamb Futurity has been revised-- more double point shows will count!
