1 Culinary Arts and Foods Department Articles in this department are judged according to standards established by the Department of Agriculture and Family and Consumer Sciences. This means the fair judges have the privilege of opening all jars in the classes. Jars must be sealed or cannot be entered with classes. All canned goods must be processed in standard canning jars and must be sealed. All baked goods must be in air-tight disposable container. Any article winning first prize in previous years cannot be entered in any class unless a sweepstake class is provided for that article. Give complete address, street, box number, city, state, and zip code. Items needing refrigeration cannot be accepted. NOTE: Prize list for all winners will consist of: Blue Ribbon-First Place Red Ribbon-Second Place White Ribbon-Third Place Cash premiums: 1 st $3.00, 2 nd $2.00, 3 rd $1.00. Cultural Arts Only original items that have been made in the last TWO YEARS are eligible for competition. The definition of original is that the item should not be the direct copy of a kit, but should reflect the contestant s creative ability to make the item a unique piece of work. Patterns are only acceptable if you use your own interpretation for materials used in carrying out the design. To assist the judges in assessing quality work, type a brief description of pertinent details (any patterns used, design, changes, etc.) on a 3'x5' card and attach it to the article. Each individual should provide their own materials required to exhibit articles. Tape and nails cannot be used on the walls. If items are best displayed vertically, please provide a table easel or means of hanging exhibit articles from wall. All items should be family friendly. The Carter County Fair Board and the Cooperative Extension Service will not be responsible for any lost, misplaced or broken items.
