2 GILDA GRAY The Queen of The Shimmy October December Was born Marianna Winchalaska in Krakow, Poland. Her birth parents were killed in a revolution and she was adopted from an orphanage. She escaped from Poland with her foster parents just before Krakow was taken over by Russia prior to World War I. She became famous in the US for popularising a dance called The Shimmy which became fashionable in 1920 s film and theatre productions. The Shimmy has said to have been introduced to American audiences in New York in Sources say that her shimmy was born one night when she was singing The Star-Spangled Banner and forgot some lyrics. She covered up her embarrassment by shaking her shoulders and hips. In 1923, she took her successful act and persona to Hollywood and between 1919 and 1936 she made several movies, shimmying on the screen in each one. Her first appearance was uncredited, but her second role was a small part in Girl with the Jazz Heart. Gilda then made Aloma of the South Seas, which grossed $ in its first three months. When the stock market crashed in 1929, Gilda Gray lost most of her financial assets, but she managed to get a job dancing at The Palace Theatre in New York for $3 500 a week, not bad in those depression years. Miss Gray was getting $ a week for her shimmy. That was what her percentage in Los Angeles amounted to. For this amount she was doing three 15 minute shows, in which her actual shimmying time was two minutes each. At this rate she received $ a minute.

And anyway, you look gorgeous in pink. Simply gorgeous. KLEIN CONSTANTIA ROSE R50 / R150 the colour is a unique faded salmon light blush that is typical of this blanc de noir styled Rosé. The nose presents fresh vibrant flavours with a rich creaminess followed by some sitrus and orange blossom. The palate is crisp and dry displaying balanced acidity and a creamy texture.

17 LA MOTTE MILLENIUM R215 A dusty, earthy nose with raspberry & mulberry fruit, cinnamon spice & a hint of mint, promising a complex wine. The first touch on the palate is velvety & juicy. The mid-palate is firm, but medium-bodied & the finish mineral-dry & lingering. A very elegant wine, with finesse, that will develop depth & complexity with age. ERNIE ELS SIGNATURE R895 The black core with purple rim shows its huge concentration, with time needed in the glass to coerce its depth of flavours. EDGBASTION PEPPER POT R195 Made from grown grapes in the Stellenbosch, Paarl and Elgin regions, this wine is created to show the fresh, fruity and spice driven flavours of these Rhone varietals. The colour is youthful and purple/ red. The nose is one of crushed black pepper, dark mulberry and mixed berry coulis. ANWILKA R705 The excellend 2008 vintage exhibits a deeply coloured core, edged by a brightly youthful ruby rim. RUPERT & ROTHSCHILD CLASSIQUE R295 Elegant & appealing with aromas of red berries, sweet cherries, white pepper & cedarwood with undertones of aniseed & almond. Good complexity with dark chocolate & flinty undertones on the palate.
