It is supple and generous, with apple, orange, honey and cooked fruit in abundance. All these and more flavours blaze the mouth until you have swallowed it, when the aftertaste is wondrously fresh. 6. Asara Private Cellar, Vineyard Collection Pinotage Rosé, Stellenbosch, South Africa 2017 (13%), 100% Pinotage Silver, 90 points Elzeri Elzeri, Cherry notes on the nose and palate, along with hints of spicy raspberries, redcurrants, sage and marjoram. A fine effort. 7. Matakana Estate, Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand 2015 (13%), 100% Pinot Noir Bronze, 87 points Richard Richard, cellar@matakanaestate.co.nz Candied red fruit with toasty and nutty character. A sweet entry on the palate with a warming mouth feel. 8. Excellence de Belliard, Margaux, Bordeaux, France 2015 (13.5%), 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot Platinum Best Bordeaux Left Bank, 95 points Tunde Thompson, export.bvs@orange.fr The elegant, spicy and slightly herbaceous nose has notes of toast, coffee, black berries and vanilla. Marchese Adorno, Cliviano Merlot, Provincia di Pavia, Lombardy, Italy 2014 (13.5%), 100% Merlot Bronze, 88 points Filippo Filippo, Baked candied red fruit compote on the nose. A little more restrained on the palate with red plums and redcurrants. Well made but simple. 12. Rossovermiglio, Aglianico, Sannio, Campania, Italy 2015 Platinum Best in Show - Best Red Italian Varietals, 95 points Mariateresa Mariateresa, mariateresadegennaro@alice.it An outstanding and elegant example with a dazzling brocade of red fruits on the nose and palate. Powerful stuff with notes of tar, roses, dark chocolate, nuts, damson and Maraschino cherry. Food please. 14. Belcolle, Simposio, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy 2013 (14.5%), 100% Nebbiolo Silver, 92 points Francesco Francesco, francesco@bosiovini.it Toast and spicy notes on the nose with intense dark fruits and complex flavours. Firm, structured and powerful with a long finish. 15. Elegant on the palate, medium-bodied with grippy tannins presaging a long ageing potential. 16. Villa Canestrari, 1888, Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva, Veneto, Italy 2010 (16%), 35% Corvina, 35% Corvinone, 30% Rondinella Silver, 91 points Arianna Arianna, arianna@villacanestrari.com Camp fire smoke, ripe and sweet black fruits on the nose. The palate is complex and herbal in character. Shows superb typicity and decent length. 20. Bodegas Olarra, Erudito, Rioja, Mainland Spain, Spain 2015 (13.5%), 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo Platinum Best in Show - Best Red Spanish Varietals, 95 points Candido Latorre, exportacion@bodegasolarra.es An elegant wine of immediate impact and yet it s not OTT. It s filled with tobacco, liquorice, fennel, tobacco and nutmeg, which nestle into coconut oak, lingering long. A picture of com posure. Incontestably upper echelon. 23. Bodegas Ondarre, Rioja Reserva, Mainland Spain, Spain 2014 (13.5%), 85% Tempranillo, 5% Mazuelo, 10% Graciano Platinum Best Red Rioja Reserva, 95 points Candido Candido, exportacion@bodegasondarre.es A first-rate example with a bevy of fleshy red fruit flavours of strawberry, cherry, and plum accompanied by spice, a lovely lick of vanilla-peppery oak, and exemplary tannins, which are sufficient for extended cellaring. A benchmark example - fine, supple and harmonious. An excellent wine for gastronomy. 24. Very well balanced on the palate with enough structure to age further. A distinguished Ribera. 27. Super polished, rip pling tannin adds a classy touch. Outstanding. 28.
