BOX 1745 GLASGOW, KY August 2017 Park Avenue Buildings to Get New Look Volume 18 Issue 8 We will begin updating the 13 buildings on Park Avenue with new Hardee Board, dormers and gables on the roof and new columns on the front porches. We believe contractors will begin around the first part of September once materials arrive. Please clear any personal lawn items you may have around the perimeter of the buildings while the contractors are working to update and improve your homes. We don t want any of your belongings to be broken or damaged. It is ok to put them back once the building is finished. We are very excited to see the new look for the Park Avenue buildings! Thank you for your help and working with us on this project. Mosquitoes - info from the EcoRaider Newsletter! While mosquitoes are as much of a nuisance pest as any, they also carry and spread harmful diseases such as the Zika and West Nile viruses, malaria, and dengue fever. Therefore it's in the best interest of your family to be as proactive as possible in trying to stay mosquitofree. Have an afternoon gathering: The best time to avoid mosquitoes is in the afternoon, which typically is the hottest part of the day. At this time, mosquitoes are usually hiding in cool spots waiting for the evening hours when temperatures are lower. Avoid standing water on your property: Mosquitoes love standing water bodies like fountains, bird feeders, catch basins, empty buckets or flower pots, or puddles. These are prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes so make sure to empty standing water spots or keep them away from the areas where you'll be entertaining your guests. Wear appropriate clothing: If you're going swimming at night, the odds are that you'll run into mosquitoes. Even walking from the pool to your house could be enough time to get a bug bite or two so know that swimming is best during the day when you can wear less clothing. For evenings on a deck or patio, wear long sleeve shirts and pants to avoid making yourself an easy target for mosquito bites.

Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, alleviating fatigue and increasing wakefulness. When to consider cutting back. For most people, moderate doses of caffeine to 300 milligrams (mg), or about two to four cups of brewed coffee a day - aren't harmful. But some circumstances may warrant limiting or even ending your caffeine routine. Though moderate caffeine intake isn t likely to cause harm, too much can noticeably affect your health. Heavy daily caffeine use - more than 500 to 600 mg a day, or about four to seven cups of coffee - can cause: Insomnia - Nervousness - Restlessness - Irritability - Nausea or other gastrointestinal problems Fast or irregular heartbeat - Muscle tremors - Headaches - Anxiety You re not getting enough sleep Most adults need seven to eight hours of sleep each night. But caffeine can interfere with this much-needed sleep. Using caffeine to mask sleep deprivation can create an unwelcome cycle. For example, you drink caffeinated beverages because you have trouble staying awake during the day. But the caffeine keeps you from falling asleep at night, shortening the length of time you sleep. You wake up tired the next day and reach for your morning jolt of Java. Try to avoid caffeinated beverages eight hours before your desired bedtime. Your body doesn t store caffeine, but it takes many hours for it to eliminate the stimulant and it s effects. Too abrupt a decrease in caffeine can cause caffeine withdrawal with signs and symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, irritability and nervousness. Fortunately, these symptoms usually resolve after several days. To change your caffeine habit more gradually, try these tips: Keep tabs. Start paying attention to how much caffeine you re getting from foods and beverages. It may be more than you think. Read labels carefully. Even then, your estimate may be a little low because not all foods list caffeine. Chocolate, which has a small amount, doesn t. Cut back. But do it gradually. For example, drink one less can of soda or drink a smaller cup of coffee each day. This will help your body get use to the lower levels of caffeine and thereby lessen the withdrawal effects. Go Decaf. Most decaffeinated beverages look and taste the same as their caffeinated counterparts. Check the bottle. Some over-the-counter pain relievers contain caffeine - as much as 130 mg of caffeine in one dose. Look for caffeinefree pain relievers instead.

4 P AGE 4 H O U S I N G H I - L I T E S V O L U M E 1 8 I S S U E 8 Total Solar Eclipse On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature s most awe-inspiring sights - a total solar eclipse. This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun's tenuous atmosphere - the corona - can be seen, will stretch from Lincoln Beach, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Observers outside this path will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun's disk. What is It? This celestial event is a solar eclipse in which the moon passes between the sun and Earth and blocks all or part of the sun for up to about three hours, from beginning to end, as viewed from a given location. For this eclipse, the longest period when the moon completely blocks the sun from any given location along the path will be about two minutes and 40 seconds. The last time the contiguous U.S. saw a total eclipse was in When Can WE See It? The Eclipse will begin to cover the sun at 11:56 our time and will take about and hour and a half to reach total eclipse, before moving across and away from the sun. IMPORTANT HOUSING ANNOUNCMENTS! Limited Times to Pay Flu Shots Available at Housing September Rent! Office Due to the Labor Day Holiday there will only be 2 days that the Housing Office will be open to accept rent payments.. To avoid a late charge your must pay your rent on Friday, September 1st or Tuesday, September 5th. You may also mail your payment as long as it is postmarked no later than September 5th. Cave City Residents! The Cave City Office will be open on August 30th from 9am till 11:15. If you are unable to pay that day you may mail your payment and not be charged a late fee if it is postmarked by September 5th. Vann Health Care will be at the Housing Office to give flu shots on Friday, September 1st from 9am till 11am. Please bring your insurance card, Medicare card or Medicaid card with you. Labor Day Holiday Monday, September 4th, the Housing Offices and Laundries will be closed for the Labor Day Holiday. Job Fair September 8th from 9am till1pm at the HERO Center at 100 Cheatham Street
