2 HOSPITALITY AND CATERING We get to work in the Manor Restaurant, which is open to the public so it s great preparation for working in a real kitchen. John Barnard Catering Hospitality and Catering is based at The Manor House Restaurant, next to our Corby campus. The restaurant is open to the public and provides a first-class facility to develop your skills and gain valuable hands-on experience in a supervised setting. 2 Are you ready for this? Our experienced lecturers will provide you with all the key skills and training that you need, working in fully equipped professional kitchens including a specialist patisserie kitchen. During the course you will have the opportunity to participate in regional and national competitions and gain work experience at prestigious outdoor events such as concerts and sporting events info@tresham.ac.uk

4 CATERI NG Level 1 Duration: 1 Year Campus: Corby Related career choices Chef, Waiter / Waitress. Entry Requirements A range of GCSEs at grade E - G (grade 1/2) including English and preferably maths or equivalent, OR an Entry Level course with good evidence of ability to achieve at a higher level. What s great about this course? This course focusses on the practical application of knowledge and aims to provide you with a basic level of study in catering. The skills developed are required for employment in many catering and hospitality establishments and events. What will I study on this course? Units for serving food and drink include preparing dining areas, serving customers and dealing with payments. You will develop your practical skills in the commercial kitchens and our Manor Restaurant which is open to the public. Your programme of study will also require attendance at tutorials, work experience and employability skills. What will I be able to do after I complete this course? This course will prepare you for employment at operative level or, with a good tutor reference and satisfactory attendance record, further study on Level 2 study programmes in Professional Food and Beverage Service or Professional Cookery. How will my work be assessed? This course involves practical sessions in our Manor House Restaurant and kitchens alongside written assignments and theory tests. Practical assessments will be carried out in test conditions at set times throughout the year. 4 Are you ready for this? Is there anything else I should know when considering this course? Entry is subject to a successful interview. A high professional standard of uniform and safety shoes or boots must be worn in the kitchens Are there any additional costs associated with this course? Entry Requirements Level 1 qualification in Catering with a satisfactory reference and GCSE grade D (grade 3) or above in English and maths. What will I study on this course? You will study serving food and drink including serving wine, silver service, table theatre, preparing dining areas, serving customers and dealing with payments. Your programme of study will also require attendance at tutorials, work experience and employability skills. You will develop your skills in the Manor Restaurant and have the opportunity to participate in regional and national competitions and work experience at prestigious outdoor events.
