25 Conclusions Food chain is an important transmission route for ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae Food animals are healthy carriers especially poultry Vegetables are a hidden reservoir for ESBL producers The spread of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae along the food chain is mainly based on epidemic plasmids rather than epidemic clones mcr-1 harbouring ESBL producers, a new threat along the food chain
