Picture submitted by Billie Lynch Cauble MH132, Dan Cauble H1322, and Carrie Cauble H13222 Cauble Family Reunion Marked by Large Attendance, Country Food, Hymn Singing, and a Lively and Successful Auction The Texas Cauble Family Association met at Roby, Fisher County, Texas, 30 July-1 August The large group who attended was treated to delicious country food beans, fried chicken, yellow squash, peach cobbler to hymn-signing, to an entertaining auction, and to hours of pleasant visiting with cousins those known for a lifetime and those just found. Our hosts Kiefer and Aubry Nell Cauble and their children, Revis and Tommy Leonard and Lois Ann Cauble Colwell, and grandchildren, Kristi Bookout, Amy Leonard, Nathan and Brent Colwell cooked and served wonderful food. The Texas Caubles offer our heartfelt thanks and our love to this special family! Thank you. We sincerely appreciate those who supported the auction and craft sale held at the reunion. Many beautiful and interesting items were offered for sale. Each had a special meaning because it was made by our kin. Even with treasurers for sale, success could be assured only when attendees bought those items. Thanks to each of you who bid and bought. Our treasurer reports that the association can now give money to the projects that are important to the family cemeteries maintenance and a new roof for the Historic Peter Cauble House. Important to the auction s success were Richard Long H23621 and Scot Long H23622 who conducted it. They entertained us for over an hour. We are proud of these brothers. 4 Reunion News Awards were given to a number of reunion attendees. Regenia McIntyre traveled the most miles from California. Rena Cauble Whaley, 88, was the longest-lived attendee. Mason Long, 5 months old was the youngest. Desserts always create a great deal of interest and this year s entries were bountiful and luscious. First place prize went to Flora Cauble Bluhm, second place to Dee Cauble Bitner, and third place to Dorothy Lewis Warren. Aunt Flora s Peach Cobbler recipe is published below. Other winners Dee s Methodist Cake and Dorothy s Pecan Pie will be published in later newsletters. Thanks to the judges Nathan Awbrey, Rex Cauble, H. D. Hughes, and Mildred McDonald Milson. The editor was surprised with an original plaque to express the gratitude of the Cauble family. A thing of beauty and a symbol of love from my kin. Thank you. Cauble Family Recipes Lazy Man s Cobbler by Flora Cauble Bluhm H Melt one stick of butter in a 9-inch-by-13-inch cake pan. 2. Make a batter of 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1 cup water. Mix these ingredients and pour over melted butter. 3. For the filling, use 1 large can of fruit, 1 cup water, and ½ cup sugar. If fresh fruit is used, combine 2½ cups fresh fruit, 2½ cups water, and 1½ cups sugar. 4. Spoon fruit evenly over the batter and pour the juice evenly over the fruit. 5. Bake 25 minutes and removed from the oven. Sprinkle the top with a mixture of ¼ cup sugar, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg. 6. Return cobbler to oven and bake until done. Total cooking time: 45 minutes to one hour Memorials and Honoraria May Be Made to the Cauble Fund President Roy Hughes has suggested that we remember the Cauble Fund when we pay tribute to those who have departed this life and when we honor those who have reached certain milestones in life birthdays, graduations, anniversaries. Such memorials and honoraria should be sent to the treasurer. Money Report, 30 August 1993 Income $3, Expenses 1, Balance $2,289.25

5 Reunion News Association Adopts Bylaws The Texas Cauble Family Association adopted bylaws at the business meeting. Accordingly, new officers will be elected in even years. Dues are set at $10 for those descendants under age 65 and $5 for age 65 and older. Newsletter subscriptions are included in the dues. All funds, including dues, are handled by the treasurer. The Magnificent Horse Collar The most unusual item brought to the auction was a horse collar. Melba Cauble Neel and T. Willard Neel of Big Spring donated it. The collar, which is in very good condition, had belonged to Melba s father, Isaac Butler Cauble E14 who established his ranch along Cauble Road just off Interstate 20 just west of Big Spring in the nineteenth century. When the collar was presented, everyone wanted it. Since that was impossible, Kiefer suggested that all of us buy it for $10 each. It will be displayed at the Historic Peter Cauble House at Peach Tree Village in Tyler County with a plaque listing the names of the donors. Anyone who wants to contribute to this gift may send $10 to the treasurer. Contributions to date total $210 to benefit the Cauble Fund.

9 Family Photographs We need copies of your family photographs. The editor need old photographs of ancestors for publishing in the newsletter. Please send yours. Letters To The Editor 7 August 1993 Dear Julia, I have found new information that I would like to share with you. First, it has been bothering me that we have not been able to find much information on Elizabeth, Lucinda, and Sarah, three of the daughters of Peter Cauble, Sr. So far as I know, no one has found any information on Elizabeth Osborn and Sarah Weights. Lucinda was supposed to have married Robert Hughes. All three daughters died prior to Do you know whether anyone has made any progress on these three? In the records of the Liberty County Board of Land Commissioners, , I found Benjamin Green received Certificate 200 for one labor of land on March 1, 1838, and John Watts received Certificate 296 for one labor of land on July 5, If any of your readers live near Austin, a search of the State Land Office records may yield additional clues. The Liberty County tax rolls list both men, but spell the named some years Watts and some years Wates. I did not have time to copy all of the entries, but I hope to get that chance on another trip. John Watts or Wates may be the husband of our Sarah. He was not in the 1850 Liberty County census. [Editor spent some time on the Watts family; they are not related to our family.] When in Dallas, I did search the Collin County tax rolls for any mention of Elizabeth Fitzgerald or Sarah Garnet. Neither is mentioned on the tax rolls. If you remember, both women were living in that part of Fannin County that became Collin County in W. E. Throckmorton appeared on the first 1846 tax list but not thereafter. J. Garnett appears on the 1840 tax list as the administrator of J. Fitzgerald, but no other. Perhaps a search of the courthouse records may reveal something. I am still working on Rotan research in Barnwell District, South Carolina. I will report on that again when I have more definitive answers. Sincerely yours, Michael A. Ports

10 Letters To The Editor Dear Julia, I am Virginia, Joe s wife, and I m so sorry none of us got to go to the Cauble Reunion. Joe was badly burned in an oilfield accident in Ever since he has been in and out of the hospital. I took care of him until he needed more medical care. For the past 6 years he has been in the nursing home here in Albany Blue Bonnet Nursing Home. I go to see him 3 times a day. Our son J. B. [in the Navy suit ] was killed in a plane crash in Ann, or daughter, lost her husband in May to cancer. Joe and I had our 67th wedding anniversary the 22nd of June. I ll be 85 on Sept 21st and Joe will be 86 in Nov. We have 5 grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, and one great-grandson. Love, Virginia Cauble Dear Julia, One item I discovered: Mary J. Cobble married David Hudler in 1872 in Angelina County, Texas. Is this Peter Cauble, Sr. s widow? At the Hughes reunion which I could not attend, Reba got some information from a lady from Hughes Springs, Texas. Our Hughes line is supposed to be related and I feel sure that Lucinda Cauble s husband, Robert Hughes, was closely related to this line. I have addresses of two researchers who can give me more information. I received a letter yesterday from Michael Stuckey. He had some information on the Chaneys. He was very appreciative of the Daniel Stuckey information and had visited his grave at Rock Church Cemetery. Dee saw his ad in the Helper and gave us his address. Love, Lue August 27, 1993 Dear Ones, Another year and we have neglected to respond to any of your very interesting newsletters. Somehow I just keep putting things off. Thank you for your patience. We really are interested. Please accept this check for past letters and future. Our son is in Lubbock. Thanks again for your care and love Our love to all, Teresa and Carl Cimino
