For more info on Sunset Ramblers and earlier newsletters, go to The October campout was at Jennings Outdoor RV Resort in Jennings, Fl. October 14-16(eb 13). Jean Bogardus, Ken and Kath Cody, Jack and Pat Dean, Bruce and Janet Duvall, Bob and Sarah Edmondson and Rich and Pam Frederick camped. Originally fifteen rigs were scheduled to camp, but due to Hurricane Matthew only six rigs camped. The other nine were sorely missed! Jennings Outdoor RV Park is at the last exit on I75 in Florida right before the Georgia state line. It has a nice club house, a pool, and a big pond with many ducks. There is not much to Jennings, but it s not far to Lake Park or Valdosta, Ga. There is a Camping World in Lake Park. Go figure! Everyone arrived on Thursday. There was a discussion about whether to plan to have a potluck Saturday night due to the number of rigs present. The decision was to have it. Jack, Pat, Bruce, and Janet went into Lake Park, Ga. for dinner and to the Winn Dixie. Friday, Bob and Rich went to Valdosta to Gander Mountain. Janet walked steps around the pond. Then she and Bruce went to Camping World to try and find a solution to their toilet problem. Jack and Ken played pool. Jack and Pat went to the Outlet Mall( It once held about 30 stores but is now down to 5-10.) and found a Carter s store and shopped for grand daughter Cecelia. Amy Dean Williams was on her way home to Tampa from working in Atlanta so she stopped by to pick up the new clothes. People met at 6:00 to play sevens. Rich and Bob went to the airport in Jacksonville to pick up Pam as she arrived from working in Australia. Saturday morning, Janet continued walking around the pond intimidating others. Jack and Pat fed the ducks and turtles. The poor turtles were a bit slower than the ducks. Bruce, Ken, and Jack played horse shoes. Bob and Sarah went in search of the cemetery where Sarah s great, great, great grandfather is buried. He founded Jennings. (Please see the Hear Ye! for the details.) Pat was making her cake and realized the ingredient list didn t include everything she needed. She had to go looking for an egg. There were two very friendly couples from Middleburg who gave her the egg. Everyone enjoyed a German potluck at 5:30 and then played I need it! At 7:00. Sunday morning and time to leave arrived too soon again. Jean was the first

2 Page 2 to leave and the Deans were the last. It had been another fun Sunset Rambler weekend! Jennings Florida was founded by George Jennings, Sarah Edmondson s great, great, great grandfather. He was born in Cambridgeshire, England and had two sons, William and George. The family lived one year on Cow Creek, Georgia before building a cabin near Micco, Florida. Tradition has it that Mr. Jennings made a trip back to Cow Creek to move his house hold belongings. He put everything his family owned on a large flat (raft) and started down the creeks and the Alapaha River toward Micco. Joe Jenkins went with him. They came to a point in the river where one fork went under the bank and the other continued. The current of the fork going under the bank was so strong, it took the raft and Jennings with it. Jenkins jumped out to safety and then jumped back in to save Jennings but not his belongings. Later his family settled in a house not far from the present Jennings Bluff Cemetery. The town was first called Jennings Station and later Jennings. Please remember those who weren t with us recently due to damage from hurricane Matthew, illness, or traveling. Also please remember to bring canned goods to each campout. Wagon Master Information Reminder: please send Rich Gavin, wagon master and Rich Frederick, president, an , or make a phone call with your plans for every campout!! Please let them know if you are or are not coming to the campout. Communication is important. Campgrounds ask questions, people get worried when you don t come at your normal time. Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls By Sarah Edmondson Ingredients: 1 tbsp. oil 1 1/2 lbs. gd. beef 1 lg. onion 1 clove garlic 1 small cabbage 1 tsp. salt 2 cans tomatoes 1 can tomato sauce 1 tbsp. vinegar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon Pinch nutmeg 1/2 tsp. pepper November 9-13 (eb 8th) Rally in Eustis, Fl. December 9-11 (eb 8th) Twin Oaks Park, Hoboken, Ga. Location Details *November 9-13 (eb 8) Fall Rally at Southern Palm RV Resort, Eustis, Fl. The application will be on the Good Sams website: *December 9-11 (eb8) Twin Oaks Park, Hoboken, Ga. No reservations needed. $20.00 per night. CASH only!!! Directions: Heat oil. Add beef and onion and cook until done. Add garlic and cook one minute. Add chopped cabbage, tomatoes, tomato sauce, vinegar, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, and salt. Bring to a boil. Then cover and simmer for twenty to thirty minutes. Food Details Bring your own plate, silverware and drink to any food gathering (paper, plastic, or real-your choice). This is a change: Friday nights you are on your own to go out to dinner, eat in your rig, or join others for dinner. PLEASE, if we have guests, include them in your dinner plans. Don t assume someone else has. Saturday nights will remain the same-potluck at 5:30. Friday and Saturday nights, there will be activities at 7:00. We d love to have everyone join us both nights!!

Almond Streusel Cake By Pat Dean You need two 9 by 5 loaf pans, two trivets or aluminum foil rings, and two crockpots. Ingredients: 1 (16 oz.) pound cake mix (2 eggs and 1/4 c. butter for the cake mix) 1/4 c. brown sugar 1 pkg. instant vanilla pudding 2 tsp. almond extract 1 tbsp. all-purpose flour 1/4 c. slivered almonds 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 tsp. melted butter P.S. Editor s note: The information about Sarah s great, great, great grandfather Jennings came from an article by Maud Havener and Inez McCall. Directions: Mix cake according to cake mix directions adding dry pudding mix and almond extract. Divide batter into two loaf pans. Combine sugar, flour, almonds, cinnamon, and butter. Divide and sprinkle over the batter in two loaf pans. Place each loaf pan on a trivet or an aluminum ring in each crockpot. Cover with several layers of paper towels. Cover crockpots loosely. Bake on high for 4-6 hours. Cool on rack for 15 minutes. P.S. If you use throw away aluminum loaf pans, the cakes will cook in 4 hours. If not, they will take much longer.
