4 MEET OUR OCTOBER GROWER OF THE MONTH GD VAJRA GD Vajra s wines, established in 1972 are characterised by pristine flavours and clearly defined perfumes. These characters are attributable to their vineyards located at about 400 metres above sea level in Barolo. G.D. Vajra was named after Aldo s father, Giuseppe Domenico. Aldo adheres to old-style winemaking methods, such as long ageing in barrel for his Barolo, but combines this with new techniques, such as a judicious use of oak, to produce superbly elegant wines. This elegance, aligned with a vibrancy and depth derived from exemplary production methods, gives wines of incredible purity and character. 7 BUBBLES OF THE MONTH POL ROGER Pol Roger s Champagnes are a huge favourite and known to the public as being Sir Winston Churchill s Champagne of choice: In victory, deserve it. In defeat, need it! The Brut Réserve NV is consistently one of the best non-vintage champagnes available. On the nose, it is dominated by green apples, white flowers with a hint of minerality. On the palate it is very complex with notes of stone fruits, nuts and honey on the finish. Pol Roger Pure is the newest addition to the range: a bone-dry, light and typically elegant blend of Pinots Meunier; Noir and Chardonnay. The vintage is made from a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, and after years ageing in bottle, it has developed complexity and finesse. The cellar master, Dominique Petit, formerly of Krug, is regarded as one of Champagne s greatest winemakers.
