1 RED BORDEAUX Traditionally Claret has been the Englishman`s drink, but the demand now is for more approachable wines. The wines of St Emilion are predominantly made from Merlot grapes and are soft and full of character DULONG, AC. 3 WHITE BURGUNDY Some excellent white wines are made in the Burgundy district, but they are all much drier than the Bordeaux white wines. 4 LOIRE Vineyards follow the long sinuous course of the Loire for most of its 600 miles and mostly whites of fresh, flowery character are produced along its banks. 7 AUSTRALIA The world has now discovered the excellent wines of Australia. With a fine climate, tremendous modernisation and skilled winemakers, the quality is beyond dispute. The better wines come from the growing regions in the cooler South. WHITE WINES 160.
