2 Our Vineyards AVONTUUR WINE AND THOROUGHBRED ESTATE are situated on the southwestern slopes of the Helderberg on the R44 road which connects Somerset West and Stellenbosch, in South Africa's prime wine growing district. Stand on the terrace at Avontuur and three things overwhelm you; the magnificent view of Table Mountain, the vista across the Indian Ocean, and, as you turn around, the gloriously rugged Helderberg Mountain range looming at you back. Avontuur Wine Estate is a producer of top-quality wines, particularly Reds. The soil aspect and mesa-climate, combined with the cool southeasterly winds from the nearby Atlantic Ocean in summer, produce grapes of exceptional quality.... now add a glass of Avontuur wine! Near the Southernmost point of Africa lays a valley named Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) framed by mountains and within sight of the ocean, with frost free, soft, beneficial weather and the most perfect clay shale vineyard soils...established in 1989, Bouchard Finlayson is a boutique winery dedicated to the making of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines of outstanding quality. Bouchard Finlayson is located in the wine ward of Walker Bay, an hour and a half from Cape Town. The 125-hectare property currently has 19 hectares under vines; the rest is mountain land covered by the spectacular indigenous Fynbos Flora of the Western Cape. Perched high on the Hellshoogte Pass just outside of Stellenbosch, Camberley s vineyards are situated on steep, west facing slopes and consist of deep Hutton soils. Gael and Johnny Nel are the winemakers. Hartenberg Estate's 99 hectares of vineyard comprise a total of nine different soil types and many different aspects and microclimates. This demands that site specific planting be fully researched so as to determine the suitability of the match between the respective varietal and its planting site. Only in 2008 will all the vineyards be fully planted which means that in 15 years a total of 59 hectares of the Estate will have been replanted to varietals which thrive on their site- specific location. The six site-specific varietals that have been planted, Sauvignon Blanc, Rhine Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinotage, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon are the backbone of Hartenberg's future.

3 The wines of IONA come from a dramatically unique site in the Cape Winelands. The vineyards are on a mountain plateau 420 meters above sea level, surrounded by the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. In a country where cool sites are precious, these vineyards are like gold the grapes ripening up to two months later than other Cape vineyards and in perfect balance. Iona is South Africa's coolest vineyard site. Andrew Gunn and family acquired this beautiful, but run-down apple farm in It was renamed "IONA" after the remote, spiritual island off the west coast of Scotland. We Gunns can trace our ancestry to the Vikings that landed in Scotland in the 900s, hence the Viking longboat emblem on our labels. MORGENHOF ESTATE is situated on the slopes of the Simonsberg mountains outside Stellenbosch. This area is renowned for the high quality of its grapes and the distinctive terroir is reflected in the character of the exceptional wines. Owned by Mrs. Cointreau-Huchon, Morgenhof Wine Estate dates back to 1692 and consists of 212 hectares of which 74 hectares are under vines, producing approximately 35,000 cases a year. Morgenhof Wines won Best of Show in Paris for their Premier Selection POSTHOUSE farm was bought by the Gebers family in It is situated in the picturesque area between the towns of Somerset West and Stellenbosch, at the foothills of the Helderberg Mountain. On a clear day Cape Point and False Bay are visible from the winery. This area is one of the preeminent wine regions in South Africa. The farm was systematically planted to vineyard with the grapes being sold to the local cooperative. It was only in 1996 that a couple of experimental barrels were made by Nick Gebers, with the help and encouragement of a local winemaker. Two vintages later, and after a stint in Burgundy, the first vintage was released. The farmhouse used to operate as a small Post office, which used to serve the local missionary community of Raithby; therefore it was a logical step to associate the wine with its postal origin. The wines were thus named Post House.

5 Bouchard Finlayson Estate Whites Peter Finlayson - Winemaker (17 ha 12,000cs 20% red 80% white) Bouchard Finlayson Sauvignon Blanc is more tropical than grassy and more delicate than overpowering; pure fruit tones and good balance. Clean gooseberry aromas with a touch of smoke and mineral character. Acidity in harmony with good strong mouth feel, fresh and enticing. 7 Camberley Estate Gael and Johnny Nel Winemakers (7ha 1250cs 100% red) Camberley Philosophers Stone The Philosophers Stone 2005 has just been released and contains 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Cabernet Franc and 16% Merlot. This bold, vibrant wine shows red berries and hints of mint on the nose, with an understated elegance on the palate. Hints of vanilla on the finish are a result of the American oak barrels used. 70% French oak Barrels. John Platter 4.5 Stars Camberley Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot Aromas of black cherries and tobacco feature on the nose, with an elegant palate showing hints of almond and marzipan. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot. Camberley Pinotage These grapes were picked late, as richness on the middle palate is what we are aiming for with our Pinotage, even if the alcohol is very high! 9 Iona Vineyards Niels Verburg Winemaker (35ha 5000cs 25% red 75% white) Iona Sauvignon Blanc A shockingly good marriage between Old and New World Sauvignon Blanc. Upfront exotic green fruit flavors with prominent flint, chalk and minerals. The entry shows ripe fruit, the finish is dry with great length. The fruit was in excellent condition with a very good analysis resulting in 13,5% alcohol, 1,8gm/l of residual sugar and 7gm/l of acid. The oak regime largely determines the style of wine and we believe oak should be used sparingly to ensure we express the fruit from our vineyard in the Chardonnay. Only 250 cases of what promises to be an exceptional Chardonnay will be released in January John Platter 4 star Iona Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon Lovely voluptuousness, truffle, licorice and red berries from the Merlot, held in check by the firm, spicy tannins of the Cabernet Sauvignon and a moderate 13% alcohol. John Platter 3.5 star Iona Nobel Late Harvest Sauterne The nose shows apricot, honey and almonds and on entry the palate is rich and sweet and the wine appears to almost evaporate on your tongue as the wonderful natural acidity balances the sweetness with a dry and long finish. Only 50% of the wine was matured in new French barriques so as to retain the freshness, minerality and delicate fruit found in our Sauvignon Blanc.

10 Morgenhof Estate Jacques Cilliers Winemaker (72 ha 17,500cs 60% red 40% white) Morgenhof Chardonnay is a lighter more fruit driven style. The color is yellow with a green edge. The nose is dominantly limey, peach and floral blossom flavors with a slight presence of wood. The palate is fresh, crisp and fruit driven with a waxy mouth feel and soft wood flavor at the end. This wine should be enjoyed with fillet, rich chicken dishes, calamari, fried fish, crayfish dishes, and creamy soups. This will also be a good choice with a salad or other lighter meals. John Platter 4 Stars Morgenhof Sauvignon Blanc with its vibrant green yellow color is a very distinctive varietal wine with prominent flavors of green peppers, freshly cut grass and flint. The palate is full-bodied and smooth with the mentioned flavors lingering in the aftertaste. This wine should be enjoyed with grilled chicken dishes, light meat salads, creamy soups, and fish in any form or as a pre-dinner drink. John Platter 4 Stars Morgenhof Chenin Blanc has a lovely greenish-yellow color. On the nose the flavors are a combination of honey blossoms, dried apricots, peaches and lime with a good wood integration. The palate is full-bodied and complex with a good balance of acidity. The flavors on the nose follow well through on the palate. This wine goes well with red meat, poultry, curries, salads, or any form of fish. You can also enjoy as a pre-dinner drink. John Platter 4.5 Stars Morgenhof Estate Brut Reserve The wine has a pale straw yellow color with a green tint. The nose is a combination of cookie dough, granny smith apple, peaches, orange blossom flavors and a touch of savory spice. The palate has a crisp acidity which adds to a lot of freshness, but is also quite full-bodied. The taste is yeasty, green apple and apricots. 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. Morgenhof Estate Noble Late Harvest The wine has a bright straw yellow color. The nose shows hints of wood, a slight nuttiness and honey flavor. The palate is full and syrupy with loads of fruit and ends with citrus and barley sugar taste. The nose is a combination of prune, black cherries and dark chocolate flavors with quite a strong smell of meatiness. 11 Fantail by Morgenhof Estate Jacques Cilliers - Winemaker (72 ha 17,500cs 60% red 40% white) Fantail Sauvignon Blanc/Chenin Blanc On the nose and palate this wine shows refreshing flavors of lime, citrus and mango with a hint of floral tones. These flavors follow through onto a lively, fruity palate which ends with a lingering crispness. 65% Sauvignon Blanc, 35% Chenin Blanc. John Platter 3 Stars Fantail Semi Sweet This delightful sweet wine under Fantail shows flavors of nectarines, peaches and mango on the nose. The palate is very pleasing, crisp and surprisingly light. A real summer treat! 100% Chenin Blanc Fantail Pinotage Rosé The wine is garnet pink in color. The nose is a good combination of berry fruit flavors like strawberries and rose petals. The palate is well-balanced, crisp, but velvety with a lingering aftertaste of strawberries. John Platter 3 Stars Fantail Unwooded Chardonnay On the nose this wine shows refreshing flavors of citrus and tropical fruit. These flavors follow through on to a luscious palate which ends with a lingering crispness. Fantail Pinotage A medium to full-bodied wine with a red cherry concentration and touch of cinnamon. This wine should be enjoyed with a hearty winter meal, casseroles, venison or a good piece of steak ABSA Top 10 Pinotage 2008 WINE Magazine Best Value Fantail Merlot has a very dark garnet red color. The nose is an explosion of plum, black cherry, dark chocolate and mocha flavors. The palate meets with the expectations and is full-bodied, well-structured with a lingering red cherry. The nose displays a tantalizing combination of spices, strawberries, lots of black cherries, mulberries and violets. 12 Post House Vineyards Nick Gebers - Winemaker (40ha 500cs 90% red 10% white) Bluish White Elegant and finely crafted blend of 75% Chenin Blanc and 25% Sauvignon Blanc giving a fruity upfront wine for easy drinking. Lightly colored with a tinge of green a nose of pineapple, guava, citrus and grassy tones. Full and intensely refreshing mouth feel. John Platter 4 star Chenin Blanc Nose offers peach, citrus and licorice. Rich and full-bodied palate with delicate flavors of tropical fruit, orange and a good minerality. Soft round entry, finishing with a long and full mouth feel. A hint of sweetness, which balances well with zesty acid. In the mouth, it is full-bodied sweet and powerful with refreshing acidity as well as massive concentration. Classic rich mouth reminiscent of Sauternes. Blueish Black is an intensely aromatic blend of Shiraz, Pinotage, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. A full-bodied rich wine with supple, soft tannins for easy drinking with a nose of mulberries, red currant and ripe strawberries, and a hint of pepper and spice.
