Lifted nose, layered and structured, lots of spice and ripe pear and apple notes, youthful; a shy start but offers lots of richness and concentration, very well balanced, great texture until the finish. 3 Sattlerhof (Sudsteiermark) Sattlerhof is recognised as Austria s top Sauvignon Blanc producer. Rated 5 stars by Falstaff, Sattlerhof is famous among wine professionals in Europe, Scandinavian and the U.S. Their wines are always highly rated (above 90 points Falstaff). If you are looking for great value Sauvignon Blanc, good purity of fruits and freshness (due to the high altitude vineyards) and wines to impress any wine lovers, try these. How does it compare with NZ sauvignon blanc? This is definitely more elegant, subtle, pure, refreshing yet with excellent intensity and displays favourable varietal characters. Their best selling Sauvignon in Austria and the U.S. Sand refers to the sandstone soil which these vines are grown. Fresh and fine fruits 1 Vom Sand Sauvignon Blanc 2013/14 32 even at this level. Guava, passion fruit backed by pleasant acidity. Lemon peel and juicy finish. Village quality level. Very good and incredible actually at this price. You will be hard pressed to find another Sauvignon Blanc of the 2 Gamlitzer Sauvignon Blanc same quality at this price! Highly recommended and must try! Great on its own or with light cuisine or starters. 3 " " " Falstaff 91/100 In Austria, especially in the Styria region, Chardonnay is tradtionally referred to as Morillon. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, this is as fresh as you would expect. Good expression of unoaked Chardonnay - fresh apricot, ripe apples and pear, ripe grapefruit. 4 Gamlitzer Morillon Amazing balance and length for this price! Good on its own or with pasta. Drink now till Limited! Falstaff 91/100! 5 Sernauberg Sauvignon Blanc (1er Cru) " " " " No, we are not joking. This is only $48 for an Erste Lage (1er Cru) quality and an organically grown white! This is a south east facing vineyard with steep slopes grown at around 380m altitude. It's not only well priced by very good. What do you think we jumped at the opportunity to import Sattlerhof. Now, every other day can be a 1er Cru day! Falstaff (90-93) 7 Kranachberg Sauvignon Blanc (Grand Cru) Again, extremely modest price given the quality. This Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) vineyard is located on a hill of about 580m in altitude. Given that Sattlerhof's total vineyard holding is only 35 hectares, you can imagine the limited quantities produced here. Fermented in part stainless steel and part large old oak vat, this is aged on lees as long as possible. Full bodied and intense and ripe Sauvignon with great potential for ageing and complexity. Would do very well with seafood. Drink now till at least Limited! Falstaff 94/ " " " " Falstaff 94/100 Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyard Pfarrweingarten. 4 Wieninger (Wien) The name Wieninger actually means Man from Vienna and anyone who carries this name in this grand city is obliged to give his very best. And this, Fritz Wieninger does with superlative style and has long been the indisputable top producer in the city. Falstaff Austrian Wine Guide Wieninger s fame in making world class Pinot Noir is known not only in Austria and Europe but also among the professionals in the world, including Singapore. He made headlines when his Pinot Noir Grand Select 2004 came in at No. 1 in a Pinot Noir blind tasting challenge chaired by NK Yong and other wine professionals in Singapore: (yes, beating top names like DRC, Comte de Vogue, Meo Camuzet!). Back at home, he has consistently won many awards for his Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gemischter Satz. Most recently Best Pinot Noir with Grand Select Pinot Noir 2013 at the Falstaff Wine Challenge All his wines are biodynamic. 1 Gemischter Satz Bisamberg Single vineyard. No oak. A blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. Fresh, clean and well balanced. Enjoyable now. We actually think this will be more likeable at this stage compared to the full bodied and serious Nussberg Gemischter Satz. Highly recommended! Falstaff 92/ Gemischter Satz Nussberg Alte Reben Chardonnay Select Chardonnay Grand Select Pinot Noir Select 2012/ Pinot Noir Grand Select Single vineyard. Top site. Rather closed on the nose. Full bodied and great concentration of ripe citrus and fresh melon. Nutty as the name of the vineyard suggests Nussberg = Walnut hill! Alte Reben = old vines of about 50 years. Medium acid and medium + alcohol. Medium long intensity. Drink now with decanting but ideally cellar a few bottles and enjoy over the next 5 to 7 years. Rated (93-95) by Falstaff and 93 by Wine Advocate! Limited to 6 per customer. No rating yet but 2012 vintage received 92 points by Falstaff. 20% new French oak. Spent about 12 months in oak. Some oak influence on the palate. Ripe citrus and stone fruits. Round and good mouthfeel. Almost full bodied. Medium+ alcohol. Medium acid. An good Chardonnay to accompany food. Falstaff 92/100 Superb price again for this flagship Chardonnay. Limited to 6 per customer. Typically 60% new oak and 40% used French oak. Bottled without filtration. This is a serious wine. So much fruit and complexity and yet balanced by the fine acidity in the background. Decant it if you plan to drink early. Falstaff 94/100 Rated 92 by Falstaff. A blend of fruits from 4 vineyards 3 from Bisamberg and 1 from Nussberg. 20% to 25% new oak depending on vintage. Fine aroma of ripe red fruits and black berries on the nose. Violets. On the palate, ripe red fruits and dark cherries balanced by some freshness and juicy character. Well integrated and fine tannins. Good length. This is extremely good value. The Pinot Noir Grand Select 2004 was the clear favourite wine of 16 professionals and connoisseurs in a high profile blind tasting in Singapore. They prefer it over top gun Burgs like DRC etc. Smokiness, slight saltiness (minerality), intense ripe fruits, full bodied, round, well balanced and super long. 5 Heinrich (Burgenland) Heinrich is one of the best red wine producers in Austria! In 2013, he won the BEST RED WINE of Austria in the Falstaff Wine Competition with this Alter Berg Blaufrankisch Rated 5-stars by Falstaff, Austria s leading gourmet and wine magazine. His wines consistently scored above 90 points for his wines! 60 hectares and 99% red wine production. Based in Gols in the Burgenland region. Specialises in single variety Zweigelt (Austria s most popular red variety and a crossing between Blaufrankisch and St. Laurent), Blaufrankisch and St. Laurent (Austria s version of Pinot Noir like variety). Also makes excellent blend like Pannobile and please check out his Gabarinza, a blend of Merlot, Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt. You may not be able to tell this from a Right Bank Bordeaux in a blind tasting! 1 Red Page 5 of 6 Blend of Zweigelt, Blaufrankisch and St. Laurent. This is Austria s best selling red wine! Medium bodied and fruity red. Ruby colour. The nose yields a dark cherry and 3 Zweigelt blackcurrant aromas. Ripe black fruits on the palate. Good balance and very inviting. Drink on its own or over BBQ. 4 " Falstaff 91/100. Classic Blaufrankisch. Red fruits and dark berries and cherries. Good 5 Blaufrankisch freshness. Red fruits on the palate with tones of liqourice and hints of tangy chocolate. Minerality is accompanied by lively acidity and a raspberry finish. Drink on its own or roast meat.
