Gold, Silver and Bronze The value of winning a medal can be enormous in terms of marketing power, even for those who don t win, just entering gives wine producers the opportunity to benchmark their wines and perhaps improve it. In this way the RAST believes the Royal Hobart International Wine Show is an important contributor to the development of fine Australian wines. Each year, the Wine Show attracts wine entries from all around Australia and from New Zealand, with judging undertaken by a panel of international, national and Tasmanian experts. The prestigious RAST Trophy - Best Pinot Noir sponsored by Etihad Airways is the major prize and attracts pinot noir entries from all over Australia and overseas. The winner of this prestigious trophy receives a return Coral economy class trip for two people to Paris flying with Etihad Airways. 40+ years of experience & history.. The Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania traces its history back to 1821 when a group of residents of Van Diemans Land corresponded with the Official Secretary and gained approval for the establishment of a Society for the protection of animals. Tasmania has the distinction of being the first colony in Australia to form an Agricultural Society when the Van Diemans Land Agricultural Society was formed in Hobart Town on 1st January The first show was conducted in January 1822, in the Old Market Place, just in front of the present State Parliament House. The first Royal Hobart Wine Show was held in conjunction with the Royal Hobart Show 22 to 25 October 1974, entries totalled 382. Since 1974 the Royal Hobart Wine Show has grown and entries have increased to over 2,500 on average with a peak entry record of 3,254. The Wine show now enlists international judges to join our Australian judges. We currently have judges from Singapore, New Zealand and the UAE. Past visiting judges have come from the United Kingdom, South Africa, New Zealand and China. The Royal Hobart Wine Show is the only wine show in Australia with Certified Quality Management accreditation ISO 9001 which is strictly adhered to and audited each year. ROYAL HOBART INTERNATIONAL WINE SHOW AWARDS PRESENTATION Trophies will be announced and presented at 9 am Friday 20 November 2015 in the Grandstand Reception Area, Hobart Showground, Glenorchy, just prior to commencement of the Tasting. EXHIBITOR & TRADE TASTING s will have the chance to meet with sponsors and trade representatives and taste all wine exhibited on Friday 20 November 2015, 10.00am to 1:00 pm at the Grandstand Hall, Hobart Showground, Glenorchy. Entry on presentation of business card - full Catalogue of results available for $10. RIEDEL PUBLIC TASTING Friday 20 November 2015, at the Grandstand Hall, Hobart Showground, Glenorchy, 4.30 to 7.30pm. Sponsors, exhibitors, judges and the public are invited to attend this event. Cost to attend is $30 which includes a Riedel glass to keep. CELEBRATORY DINNER The celebratory dinner will be held on Friday, 27 November 2015, 7pm for 7.30pm. The dinner will be held at Hobart Showground, Level 1, Main Grandstand. Tickets can be purchased from Cost is $140 per person which includes a 5 course degustation menu matched with gold medal wines.

9 GENERAL REGULATIONS 1. All entries except as otherwise provided for in these rules, must be solely the product of grapes and conform to the respective Acts of States and the Commonwealth of Australia. These include the Customs and Excise Act and Regulations, Health Act and Regulations, and the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation Act A judging panel shall consist of three judges. 3. All persons exhibiting shall accept the decision of the judges appointed by the Society as to the merit of the entries. 4. Entries will be awarded points (on the 20 point scale) by the judges and aggregate trophy points per Regulation 27 will be set out in the list of awards. Certificates for Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals will be issued to award winners. 5. Points for aggregate trophies will be allocated according to the following scale: Points GOLD AWARD 5 SILVER AWARD 3 BRONZE AWARD 1 6. The Tasmanian exhibitor accruing the highest aggregate score receives the Most Successful Tasmanian award. 7. No protest with respect to process will be entertained unless made within seven days of the announcement of the awards. 8. The exhibitor must comply with the Winemakers Federation of Australia Code of Practice for the display of Awards. 9. Any making misleading or other improper use of awards won in the Royal Hobart International Wine Show may be disqualified from any future Show or Shows. 10. No entry will be received from any person or persons disqualified by this or any similar Society during the period of such disqualification. Should any such entry be accepted, it shall, when discovered be deemed void and the entry fee and exhibit shall be forfeited.

10 JUDGING CRITERIA 1. Judges will judge each class and on receipt of all result sheets applicable to any one class, the Panel Chair shall have the points totalled. He or she shall have the power to arbitrate the results. 2. Judges will not have access to entries apart from the glasses placed in front of them by the Stewards. 3. All entries will be judged on points allocated by each of the three Judges in a panel as follows: Points Colour and Clarity 3 max Bouquet 7 max Palate 10 max TOTAL 20 max (in 0.5 increments) 4. Awards will be made as follows: Bronze Award Silver Award Gold Award 46.5 to 50.5 points 51.0 to 55.0 points 55.5 to 60.0 points 5. The RAST shall have the power to disqualify or dismiss, as being not eligible for judging, any exhibit which in their opinion does not comply with regulations in every respect. Such disqualification shall be accepted as final. 13 Quality Objectives The Royal Hobart International Wine Show, which is the only Australian wine show with ISO 9001 accreditation, aims to conduct an annual wine show that meets or exceeds our customers expectations by incorporating the following objectives and using the listed performance criteria: Conduct an annual wine show in accordance with the recommendations of the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology. Assessed by: Chairman of Judges and Judges satisfaction; survey results from entrants; number of non-conformances; wine press review/appraisal. Provide leadership among wine shows both in the application of quality assurance standards to the conduct of wine shows and in the judging of cool climate wines. Assessed by: successful QA accreditation; one third of Judges experienced with cool climate wines; at least one third of judging panel are Tasmanian judges; Chair of Judges and one other judge experienced in Pinot Noir. Accommodate changes in industry products and provide direction for exhibitors by the annual review and designation of classes. Assessed by: provision of new classes; changes to rules; customer survey results. Provide in-service training for Judges and Stewards. Assessed by: Chair of Judges and Panel Chairs after completing the associate judge training period. Training of stewards to be the responsibility of the Chief Steward and the Chair of the Wine Show Committee. Maintain and constantly improve wine judging facilities. Assessed by: improvements to cellar, judging rooms, lighting, glasses; better procedures for split classes and trophy judging; ensuring that judges accommodation, food and social activities while attending the Wine Show are of the highest possible standard; absence of critical comment from judges.

Excellent fruit depth and purity. Generally, acid was prominent but well balanced. A very strong year for Riesling. There were several examples of excellent subtlety of texture.
