3 The World of Parker Commencement and Customs S Proud parents at Greer s graduation ince early May the World of Parker has been all about commencement and customs. Commencement, as in multiple graduations, and customs, as in bad passport photos and long lines. Eli & son Jack at his high school graduation As you might surmise in a family as large as ours there were a number of graduations happening in rapid fire succession this spring. Greer led the way, graduating from Westmont College on May 6th with a B.A. in Political Science. The following Friday, Spencer wrapped up his career at C.U. Boulder, also earning a Bachelor s in Political Science. Another milestone took place on June 3rd when Eli s youngest, Jack Parker, graduated from Bishop Diego High School. in the Hunter Valley. Eli chaperoned a group of Jack s friends on a quick trip down to Cabo. Henry & Greer at Spencer s graduation from C.U. Boulder Fess Parker wines Tim and Dr. Naeem the Dream, lead singer of Vertigo All the graduates took a celebratory trip. Greer chose Italy, and Ashley valiantly agreed to go along as a chaperone. While in Tuscany, they visited Cantina Antinori in Bargino, as well as Badia a Coltibuono in Gaiole, Chianti. Spencer opted to venture down under and visit a friend in Australia where he visited several wineries including Capercallie, Leogate, and McGuigans Not to be outdone, Tim traveled to Massachusetts for his Williams College 25th reunion and yes, they got the band back together! Vertigo played a 90-minute set, and the Class of 92 enjoyed some 14 Rodney s Vineyard Syrah at their class dinner gathering. While on the east coast, Tim also represented the winery and Wine Country Inn at the 2017 Preferred Hotels General Manager s Meeting in New York City. Attendees from Preferred properties all over the world enjoyed our Marcella s Rhône Preferred Hotel Group blend and the Older Barrel Pinot Noir. 4 Head Winemaker W ow, it is hard to believe half of 2017 is already behind us! We have been very busy in the winery bottling most of our 2016 white wines and sparkling Fesstivity wines for secondary fermentation, along with disgorging the 2015 sparklers. The most recent wines to bottle have been our 2015 Rhone white wines like Rodney s Vineyard Viognier, Blair Fox Viognier and our fresh, bright, white blend, Marcella s. All of these wines are beautiful with bright, fresh, floral aromatics, wonderful acidity, and ready for you enjoy with the warm summer weather by the pool or with your favorite summer meal. Next to bottle with be our reserve Chardonnays like Ashley s, Bien Nacido and Parker West. While also having wonderful acidity, these wines possess rich, round mouthfeel 3 Summer Newsletter 2017 with glorious texture. They are truly wonderful examples of cool-climate Chardonnay. After all of these wines are bottled, we will put together our 2014 Rhone red wines, and then it will be time for harvest. What a fantastic winter we had! It is great to get back the seasons with a wet winter, cool and moderate spring, and then a jump into summer with some 100-degree days. The vines seem to be quite happy this season with the salts having been leached out of their root zone and plenty of early soil moisture to spur the 2017 growing season. We are just starting to have to irrigate with the warm summer weather. What a difference from the last six consecutive years of drought! We are seeing early signs of a moderate crop load and hoping for high quality. Let s cross our fingers and hope Mother Nature is kind to us the next four months.
