O C T O B E R Tedako Preschool Newsletter Say Hello to Our New Staff! Naomi Nakazato has been working at an American CDC on Okinawa since June of She was born and raised in Okinawa and enjoys traveling abroad. She is married with four adult children: three daughters and one son and she has always loved working with children. She says, "Their facial expressions make me happy. I hope to provide the best care possible to all the families we serve. I am so excited to join the OIST Tedako CDC team and to work with the Kukuru baby class" Ayumi Olmstead is originally from Okinawa, but has also lived in California and Michigan in the USA. She has studied Early Childhood Education in both Japan and the US, receiving a Japanese Kindergarten certification and an US Early Childhood Education Associates degree. She is passionate about working with children and comes to us with 10 years or previous experience working in American preschools and 2 years experience working at a Japanese Kindergarten. The Nuuji class is very lucky to have found such an experienced teacher to learn from! Shiyuki Shimabukuro graduated from the University of the Ryukyus in 2014 and has worked as an English Teacher to Japanese children since. She has a strong ability to teach and entertain children through singing and storytelling and looks forward to building a good relationship with the children, parents and staff of Tedako. Save the Date! Birthdays 10/14 We will celebrate all October birthdays at Tedako at 2:50 Nuuji Field Trip 10/25 Nuuji Children will ride a boat and play with goats at Bios on the Hill. Kugani/ Shinka Field Trip 10/21 Visit a farm and make butter at Kyuna Farm. Barn Yard Dance 10/28 In the Auditorium Meeting Rooms starting at 9:30
Kukuru Class Update Story Time Babies developed the sense of touch by using their tiny fingers to turning the book s pages. Looking at the colorful pictures stimulate their eyes and vision. Another benefit is that communication skills are developing in relaxed atmosphere during story time with teachers. Children started picking up books that they want teacher to read to them and react positively while being read to. That means they are really focus on the book and they are very much enjoying story time. The Amazing Achievements of Babies Babies that could not do it yesterday but did it today! Teachers are always happy to see the babies development. We can see the babies getting stronger by their movements especially the muscle strength in their arms and legs. They become more and more active. We look forward to future growth! Let s play together and have fun! 2
Kanasan, Churasan, and Yui Toddler Class This Is The Way We Wash Our Hands Teaching children to wash his or her hands correctly on his or her own begins with children who are 1 years old. These little ones have the habit of washing hands after outdoor play, before and after eating, and after toileting. They know how to use soap, how to turn the water off and on and dry their hands with their own towel. It is a big responsibility and important skill for children to become in the regular habit of washing their hands regularly. Great job Tedako toddlers! 3
Preschool Update Nuuji Class Classic Each day in circle time, Aika Sensei calls each child s name and they say here. She then does calendar and weather and then does a focus activity. The focus activity is alternated between feelings, colors, numbers, class rules, and the weekly theme. Then they finish circle time with a book and a musical activity. Lately, their favorite song and dance is called The Elephant`s Yawn. In this song children play the part of various animals while they yawn. They do a tiny tiny yawn for an ant and a BIG yawn for an elephant. This song and dance activity was made famous by the television show call With my Mother on NHK around 30 years ago and is still loved among children, especially those in the Nuuji class. Here is a link to this classic song, check it out! After Circle Time, the Nuuji Class gets on the train to Toilet Station Kugani and Shinka Mud Play In September the Kugani and Shinka children got down and dirty on their first ever Mud Play field trip at Nature Park, in Kin town. Some of the children were hesitant to get in the giant pond of mud and water, but that soon changed once they saw the water slide and sleds for sliding down into the muddy water. The kids enjoyed the clay-like texture of the mud. It was easy to make mud balls, and great for throwing at the teachers! The kids were also able to play tug-of-war and float around on inner tubes. Getting cleaned off was fun too; the teachers and children sprayed each other with water in the shower area. After changing and eating the kids were able to play some more on an outdoor play set with swings, slides, monkey bars and much more! It was an awesome fun filled day, and we can't wait to do it again next year! 4
Tedako Announcements Barn Yard Dance On Friday October 28, you and your family are invited to dress in costume and attend our Barn Yard Dance. It will be great fun and will be held in the meeting rooms across from the auditorium. We have encouraged a farm theme, but your child may wear anything as long as it is not scary. There will be no school lunch provided on this day, so please pack a lunch for your child. CDC Barn Yard Dance Schedule 9:30 Leave CDC 9:40 Arrive at Auditorium Entrance, Parents Sign children out of teacher`s care 9:45 Welcome Greeting 9:50 Puppet Show 10:00 Activities (Balloon Animals, Photo Booths, Bounce House, Crafts, Face Painting, Games) 11:15 Picnic Lunch 12:00 Return to the CDC Children may come to school dressed in costume when they arrive in the morning.
