2 So Many Things So Little Time! December is chock full of events and some new programs. Our Senior Chorus is coming back! Turtle Bay Music School is sending their choral conductor, Mark Bruckner to Stein to start up our chorus again. The chorus will meet on Tuesdays, starting December 6th from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. The chorus will meet in Activity Room 1. Please join the chorus, not only is it fun, it is also healthy. You don t have to sing like Caruso! We are also welcoming our new Play-Reading group on the first and third Friday of the month from 10:00 to 12:00. Grant and Nancy are co-leading the group and Carmine will be joining Nancy in December. On Thursday, December 15th, we are having our Holiday Fair from 12-5 pm. We will have wonderful gifts, raffles, refreshments. Please come and support our fundraiser. On Monday, December 19th, the 13th Police Precinct will hold our Holiday Dinner at 3pm. Tickets sell out quickly, so I hope you have gotten yours. The officers from our 13th precinct provide and serve this delicious dinner each year. This year, Stein will be closed both on Friday, December 23rd and Monday, December 26th. As I have written before, I hope you will support our programs by attending them and contributing to them. We have so many activities and programs here that we exceed our budget. Of course, we look for and get as many pro bono teachers and programs that are available, but for the most part, we pay our consultants. I wish our Stein family a healthy, happy and productive holiday season and New Year, Jane Barry, Executive Director

5 MOVIES ON THURSDAY(S) - DECEMBER :30PM DINING ROOM DEC. 1ST THE KING S SPEECH ( HR/59 MINS) England's Prince Albert (Colin Firth) must ascend the throne as King George VI, but he has a speech impediment. Knowing that the country needs her husband to be able to communicate effectively, Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) hires Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), an Australian actor and speech therapist, to help him overcome his stammer. An extraordinary friendship develops between the two men, as Logue uses unconventional means to teach the monarch how to speak with confidence. DEC. 8TH THE DOLLY SISTERS (1945 1HR/54MINS) In this fact-based film, siblings Jenny (Betty Grable) and Rosie Dolly (June Haver) are born in Hungary but, at an early age, emigrate to the United States with their family. Before long, the girls begin to dance in small venues to support their relatives. They meet charming small-time crooner Harry (John Payne), who begins a romance with Jenny. He manages to get the girls a big audition that launches them to worldwide stardom; however, the sisters' success takes its toll on Jenny's love life. DEC. 15TH ***NO MOVIE TODAY*** HOLIDAY FAIR DEC. 22ND WHITE CHRISTMAS ( HRS)Singers Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) and Phil Davis (Danny Kaye) join sister act Betty (Rosemary Clooney) and Judy Haynes (Vera-Ellen) to perform a Christmas show in rural Vermont. There, they run into Gen. Waverly (Dean Jagger), the boys' commander in World War II, who, they learn, is having financial difficulties; his quaint country inn is failing. So what's the foursome to do but plan a yuletide miracle: a fun-filled musical extravaganza that's sure to put Waverly and his business in the black! DEC. 29TH THE HORSE SOLDIERS ( HRS) During the Civil War, Colonel John Marlowe (John Wayne) is tasked with leading a Union cavalry division to raze a Confederate railroad depot. Marlowe faces further challenges as a result of his frequent disagreements with the regiment's surgeon, Major Henry Kendall (William Holden), and the presence of Miss Hannah Hunter (Constance Towers), a Southern belle who overhears Marlowe's secret plans and is brought along to prevent her from spreading the word.

7 MEET OUR STUDENT INTERNS: Tuba Guven is one of our social work interns here. She is a student at Silberman school of Social Work, and is studying on the Clinical track. She is available to meet one on one for counseling sessions. She also teaches an Arts and Crafts class here every other Monday. Please join her class if you would like to create your own collages and make art!
8 MEET OUR STUDENT INTERNS: Kate Witt is currently an intern from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She helps at the Stein center three days a week. Previously she taught high school English in the NYC public schools. She is a prolific poet who enjoys the transformative nature of writing. Memoir writing is a powerful way to express the joy and wonder in our lives. Please join us every other Friday morning to discuss the memorable stories from your life. We spend the first part of class brainstorming ideas and sharing important moments. The end of class is used to explore our experiences in writing. Over the next several months we will write several small writing samples and then pick one piece of writing to expand on in detail. During the spring, we will publish an anthology of our work.
