This Sunday, Arnold invites us to join him for a healthy trek through the forest at the Terra Cotta Conservation Area - followed by pub grub at the trendy Terra Cotta Inn. We then drive to the trail head on Winston Churchill Road. Hike about 2.5 hours. Expect a steady climb at the start for about 35 minutes, then mostly downhill. Dress for the weather, bring plenty of water, a snack, hiking boots and hat. Afterwards, we enjoy a pub lunch at Terra Cotta Inn. DIRECTIONS: Take Hwy 401 west and turn north on Mississauga Road. After 24 km turn left on to King Street. Food choices are excellent, with a wide range of wines, domestic and imported beer at this interesting establishment. We ll socialize for a while and then watch either Calendar Girls or *The Full Monty, both hilariously funny with excellent actors. No charge except $5 UKC levy. BYOB and POP. You don t have to be an expert. All welcome! Bring your single friends! We will be playing BEST DRIVE, meaning that for the drive only, on holes greater than 150 yards; players pick up their balls and place them in line with the ball of the player who has the best drive. There will be prizes for CLOSEST TO THE HOLE and LONGEST DRIVE at designated holes with a maximum of one prize per golfer. Cost: green fees of $30.50 for seniors and $43.50 for adults, plus $5 UKC levy. Rentals available: clubs $20, pull cart $5 and power carts $30 for seniors, $32 for adults (2017). Power carts can be shared. The 19th hole will be at the SQUIRE with no levy payable. From SW drive west on Eglinton, south on Islington, east on Bloor. The Squire is two short blocks on your right. This is three blocks south of Eglinton at the northwest corner of McCrae. (Bus-stop is right outside the pub.) The Climax Jazz Band plays traditional New Orleans jazz and is a legend in Toronto. There is great pub food plus a $10 steak special on Saturday afternoons. No cover charge to hear this wonderful band, only the $5 UKC Levy. There is only a small parking lot, but street parking is available plus a large shopping plaza a block down on the east side of Laird. Several popular Italian specialties are offered with prices ranging from approx. $13 to $20. June 3 Sun 12 pm, UK CONNEXION GOLF TOURNAMENT & LUNCH, Mississauga Join Ian and experience the nine-hole Braeben Academy Par 3 golf course on a windy hilltop in Mississauga, 5700 Terry Fox Way; enter 500 yards SOUTH of Matheson. The course is built to the model of the Scottish Highlands and is a great beginner and intermediate course. Green fees are $21 per person and $15 (approx.) for seniors (plus GST). Jun 10 Sun 10:20 am, HIKE IN HIGH PARK, Bloor St W & High Park Ave. Join Dorothy and Joan for a brisk walk at High Park. Meet at the north entrance of High Park, on Bloor St W at High Park Ave, a 3-minute walk from the High Park subway station. Please be on time. For those coming by car, arrive early to allow walking time to meet us at the park entrance at 10:20, OR meet at 10:40 in front of the Grenadier Cafe, where the large parking lot (free) is located. There is also free parking spaces along some of roads into and out of the park. We will hike through various sections of High Park for about 90 minutes. Then have lunch at Grenadier Cafe on the back patio. After lunch, we may have an additional one-hour walk for those interested, to different parts of the park. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water and dress appropriately for the weather. The $5 UKC levy will apply.
