2 CropCast Weekly Oilseeds Report Don Keeney Thursday, Oilseeds Summary: The CROPCAST estimate for world oilseeds production is MMT, which is unchanged from last week. Limited rains in the U.S. soybean areas this week should favor harvesting Abundant rains in Southeast Asia will continue to improve moisture for palm Showers in North China Plain and Yangtze Valley area slowing soybean harvesting Rains in central and northwestern Brazil this week will further improve moisture for soybean germination Drier weather in western Europe this week will favor sunflower harvesting SOYBEAN GROWING AREAS RAPESEED GROWING AREAS SUNFLOWER GROWING AREAS PALM OIL GROWING AREAS United States PAST WEATHER: Showers favored the Midwest and north central Delta this past week. FORECAST: A few light showers should favor the northern Midwest this week. CROP IMPACT: Showers in the Midwest this past week slowed harvesting a bit, but much more limited rains this week will allow harvesting to progress well. European Union PAST WEATHER: Rains favored Spain, France, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Former Yugoslavia, Hungary, and Italy last week. FORECAST: Showers should favor eastern Germany, Poland, Czech- Slovak Republics, and southern Italy this week. CROP IMPACT: Showers this past week slowed sunflower harvesting a bit, but drier weather in central and western areas this week will allow harvest progress to improve. China PAST WEATHER: Showers favored North China Plain, and central and eastern Yangtze Valley last week. FORECAST: Rains should favor North China Plain and Yangtze Valley this week. CROP IMPACT: Rains across central and southeastern North China Plain and Yangtze Valley have stalled soybean harvesting and increased wetness, and wetness concerns will persist this week. Meanwhile, limited rains in Northeast China will favor harvesting.
3 CropCast Weekly Oilseeds Report Don Keeney Thursday, Southeast Asia PAST WEATHER: Rains were noted across much of the region this week. FORECAST: Rains should be widespread across the region this week. CROP IMPACT: Abundant rains across the region have improved moisture a bit, although more are still needed in central Sumatra, southwestern Malay Peninsula, northwestern Kalimantan, and central and southwestern East Malaysia. Brazil PAST WEATHER: Showers favored Mato Grosso, Goias, southwestern Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo, Parana, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul this past week. FORECAST: Showers should favor Mato Grosso, Goias, Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo, Parana, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul this week. CROP IMPACT: Rains in central and northwestern areas this week will further improve moisture for soybean growth. However, some dryness will rebuild in Bahia in far northeastern areas.
