Top 2% yielding reports in canola on canola vs top 2% in 1 year break in Peace region On average 24-29, canola on canola top yields were 44 bu/ac vs 47 with 1 year break Only about 6% difference (vs 18% overall) A little higher standard deviation with c-c Can other management tools overcome some of the short rotation yield loss?

27 Summary Canola rotations are becoming shorter in Alberta Peace has tightest with canola on canola and canola every 2 nd year most common now Central Alberta has canola every second year most common now South central Alberta has canola every second and third year most common outside of fallow Canola on canola yield loss fairly consistent in all soil zones 15 to 2% And trend appears to be falling Canola yield in long rotations slightly higher (5-8%) than 1 in 2 Alberta isn t unique same trend in Manitoba! I expect the trend to continue unless relative crop prices and/or yields change! What will be long term impact of this 2 crop rotation?
