We hold this principal to be particularly true of Italian wines, which offer the same qualities as some of the world s most esteemed labels, but at a far more advantageous price. To demonstrate this, we have selected as part of our SILVER LINE some of the most renowned and exclusive Italian wines in the medium to medium-high price ranges. All of our labels have been rated by the world s most esteemed wine critiques, such as Robert Parker, the and James Suckling, in the range of 85 to 100. We have also chosen our labels to cover the diversity that the Italian terroir can offer, as well as the unique production methods employed by our winemakers. The couple relaunched their Piedmont winery in 1985 with the renovation of the cellar and the acquisition of new vineyards. Marco Parusso himself is undoubtedly one of the most innovative Barolo producers in the whole of Piedmont. Often labelled a modernist for his use of French oak barrels and Microoxygenation, Parusso s unorthodox production methods have allowed him to achieve what very few winemakers have managed: a Barolo that is enjoyable in its youth, but also has a strong ageing potential. His estate now boasts a high quality production from vineyards located in Monforte and Castiglione Falletto. These red wines are elegant, ambitious and rich. Barolo Bussia 2009 The 2009 Barolo Bussia is striking. Layers of super-ripe dark fruit, violets, minerals, menthol and spices flow from the glass. The Bussia is deep, textured and dazzling. Spiced, mentholated notes develop in the glass, lending a distinctly balsamic air to the Bussia. The 2009 boasts superb depth through to the dazzling finish. ( WA) Barolo Mariondino 2009 The 2009 Barolo Mariondino is graced with exquisite depth and definition in its dark raspberries, flowers, mint and licorice. Fleshy and radiant, the Mariondino is endowed with considerable finesse and elegance. Freshly cut flowers, mint and sweet spices add complexity and nuance on the delineated finish. The Mariondino is a head-spinning Barolo. (WA) Barolo I am intrigued with the aromas of green coffee bean and hints of ripe fruit. Turns to flowers. Full body, with chewy tannins and an intense finish. Vanilla bean and hints of ripe fruit. Subtle and sexy. Like it better than Bussia! Guado de Gemoli 2009 A soft mineral note of polished river stone or wet granite appears at the very beginning, giving this blend a pristine, clean feel. As the wine spends more time in the glass, it delivers aromas of ripe fruit, leather and moist pipe tobacco. The palate exhibits an involving full body, with a big tannic structure and good aromatic persistence. The finish is long and clean. (WE) Felciaino Here s a very clean and rich Bolgheri blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that delivers dark chocolate and black cherry with subtle background notes of spice and black olive. The wine is beautifully ripe and plush (absent are any astringent or green notes), and the wine is firm and powerful to the end. (WE) Ferruggini Ferruggini is a ripe and concentrated blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon that offers impressive concentration, polished tannins and velvety softness. There s a touch of sweetness in the form of ripe cherry, chocolate and blackberry pie. The efforts of winegrower Michele Scienza and his family provide the winery s direction; with generations of rich viticultural experience, they manage their wine estate in harmony with the principles of sustainable and natural agriculture. Their wines are anchored in tradition and avoid the additives and manipulation that can harm the natural qualities of the grapes. The brilliant wines reflect the virtues of the terroir. Graceful mineral-rich structure and inviting fleshy and fruitful palate render them truly unique. (Bi) Atis 2009 Rute Antillo Concentrated ruby red with purple hues. Bright golden, to the nose it is clean and elegant, with hints of flowers, fruit, herbs and honey in the finish. The ageing of the wine increases the mineral notes. To the palate it is full bodied and good balanced, long finish. L Airone Bright straw yellow, to the nose outstanding hints of white fruit and sent of tropical fruit, such as pineapple and passion fruit. Pleasant to the palate, fresh and sapid. For two generations, the Landini family has concentrated its energy on producing high-quality wines that respect the traditions and viticulture of the region while meeting the standards of an international clientele. Lucio and Franca Landini s son, Alessandro continue to make wines that combine both traditional and modern production techniques, an approach has earned Fattoria Viticcio s wines a world-class reputation. Prunaio 2010 The 2010 Prunaio is gorgeous in this vintage. Dark cherries, plums, smoke and licorice wrap around the palate in this voluptuous, seamless single-vineyard Sangiovese. Everything is in the right place. The 2010 impresses for its purity and depth. A big, powerful wine loaded with dark cherries, blueberries, spices and sweet French oak with a spicy finish. ( WA) Chianti Classico Riserva The Chianti Classico Riserva boasts considerable richness in its powerful, dense fruit. Over the last few years the estate has eliminated new oak barrels, and what comes through most is a generous, pliant personality that is quite appealing. Super ripe red cherries burst from the expressive finish. ( WA) Chianti Classico The Chianti Classico is gorgeous. An open, warm bouquet leeds to sweet red fruits, crushed flowers and spices in this radiant Chianti Classico. The wine shows plenty of inner perfume through to the round, harmonious finish. 13 winery I GREPPI - BOLGHERI Region: Tuscany ESTABLISHED: 2002 WINEMAKER: Gabriella Tani, Daniele Innocenti VINEYARDS: 25 ha BOTTLES: 250,000 I Greppi is a new project in Bolgheri jointly owned by the Landini family of Fattoria Viticcio in Chianti and the Cancellieri- Scaramuzzi family. Most of the vineyards have only been planted recently, but if these first vintages are indicative of what the estate is capable of we will have much to look forward to over the coming years. (RP) The principle great varietals are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc farmed organically. Needless to say, the quality of wines being produced is very impressive and promises only to increase as the vines mature. Greppicaia Greppicante Bere The Bolgheri Greppicaia wraps around the palate with black cherries, espresso, mocha and tar. This wine boasts plenty of depth and richness in a very typical expression of Bolgheri. There is a plushness that is quite inviting. Greppicaia is 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. ( WA) The Bolgheri Greppicante shows good depth in its super-ripe black fruit. Firm tannins propel the finish in this juicy, expressive entry-level wine from I Greppi. Greppicante is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. ( WA) Viticcio s Bere is a juicy wine bursting with dark red fruit and sweet spices. In this vintage Bere has a little more energy than is often the case. Bere is 50% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in cask. In a part of the world where tradition, history and viticulture go hand in hand, the Ca Dei Frati winery embodies the rich historical heritage of Italian winemaking. Mutual respect, family values and close links with local traditions form the centrepiece of the Dal Cero s winemaking philosophy. By cherishing the past and looking to the future, Ca dei Frati has established a worldwide reputation, producing wines that are renowned as being amongst the best in the Garda Lake region! Region: Lombardy Ronchedone Brolettino Lugana Rosa dei Frati A combination of Marzemino, Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet gives a wine that cannot go unnoticed. It has a rich, fruity nose, with a hint of red fruit, macerated blackcurrants, kirsch, aromatic herbs and jam. On the palate it is powerful and incisive, clean and savoury, with a good degree of acidity. Ideally served with red meats, mature cheeses and meatbased soups. Mature grapes and rich soil give a long-lived, well-structured wine. On the nose it is rich in ripe fruit and wild rose petals, with fresh, balsamic notes. Full-bodied and well-structured maintains its freshness and elegance through to the finish. Ideal with robust winter soups, beans, white meat and poultry, semi-ripe cheeses and rich fish dishes and shellfish. A quality chiaretto that is deceptively simple yet authoritative. Fresh, delicate and incisive at the same time. The nose has notes of hawthorn, green apple, white almond and wild cherry. With its fresh savoury taste, it whets the appetite with its lively freshness and drinkability. Best served with fried vegetables and mushrooms, light white meats and strong flavoured fish. Agostino Vicentini, owner and winemaker, inherited 14-hectare of vineyards from his father Francesco, who also taught him the tricks of the trade and passed on more than 40 years of experience. Today Agostino has 20 hectares on volcanic-rich soil at about 250 meters above sea level growing only local varieties. His wines are structured with a strong and savoury mineral backbone. (Bi) Soave Superiore Il Casale The Soave Superiore Il Casale is straw yellow color with golden highlights. Expansively fragrant with abundant white wild flowers, minerals, and herbs in its nose. Intense, elegant, full-bodied pleasant dry taste with a long finish. Rich and pure this intense wine is one of the finest values in Italian white wine. (WE) Soave Terrelunghe Made from a blend of native grapes Garganega and Trebbiano, this luminous Soave opens with bright aromas of lemon zest, peach and Golden Delicious apple.
