3 About Castilla-La Mancha The Spanish region of Castilla-La Mancha is located in the heart of Spain. With its 80,000 sq. km and its five provinces, it enjoys a partly Mediterranean and partly continental climate. It is known for the diversity, exquisiteness and fertility of its pantry, this being the basis of its delicious traditional cuisine, which has its own strong character. This is a safe-conduct to travel throughout the world, seducing even the most demanding palates. Castilla-La Mancha produces an extraordinary range of fine foods and wines. This Old World wine area has experienced an exciting transformation during the last two decades, a story of quality red and white wines offering drinking pleasure and amazing value for the wine lover. Castilla - La Mancha is the largest wine growing region in the the world, producing 50% of the Spanish wine within its 460,000 hectares of wine producing terroir. Castilla-La Mancha comprises nine Designations of Origin (D.O.) and seven Pagos Vitícolas, very especial Designations of Origin. Our wines have reached a consolidated and consistent quality image in both national and international markets. Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla (Wines from the Land of Castilla) is also a different designation of origin for those willing to produce wines outside the main D.O.s. 3
