34 Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Oggie8 Challenge The Oggie 8 Challenge is an annual event which aims to raise funds to support the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue which operates over about 150 square miles of Northern Snowdonia. The Challenge involves conquering the eight 3000ft peaks in the Ogwen Valley in one day. The 14.5 mile route involves more than 2000m of ascent and this year 62 sponsored participants attempted the Herculean feat, raising in excess of Our very own Sean Kelly (Regional Sales Manager) and his son, Padrig, took part for the first time on Saturday 2 nd August Congratulations on your achievement & well done for putting the time and effort into such a worthwhile event! It costs on average 60,000 to keep the team fully operational, providing training, equipment and maintaining a base and two Land Rover Ambulances. All the expenses are covered by voluntary donations and fund raising. In an average year, the team will perform over 120 rescues, including river rescues and searching for missing and vulnerable persons. The 8 th Oggie 8 Challenge will take place next year on the 8 th of the 8 th (save the date: 8 th August 2015). The Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation celebrates its 50 th Anniversary in thank you to all involved! Visit to learn more about this worthwhile registered charity.
