Teacher In-Service days are Monday/Tuesday. Junior High Basketball Tryouts October 29 th /30 th Girls times: 3:45pm-5:45pm Boys 6:00pm-8:00pm As many of you know our good friend and guide in Israel, Paul Komorowski, has a serious heart condition. Surgery was moved up and he just completed a week-long stay in the hospital including heart surgery and pacemaker. Due to complications, his hospital visit was extended to over a week. This morning I visited with him and he has been moved to a recovery area for another week. I've expressed to him that many people here are praying for him and he was brought to tears by the fact that people here in America are praying for him. Please continue to pray for him, both for his health as well as for him come to know Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Thanks again for your prayers and concern for Paul. 2 Operation Christmas Child Prizes: High school - pizza in Bible class and free jean day Junior High - pizza in Bible class and free jean day Elementary - pizza and movie We will begin collecting items Friday, October 19 and will end Wednesday, November 7 Boxes will be stored in each high school and junior high Bible classrooms. How can Sunrise help OCC? Pack a Box! Bring items that we can pack (it all does not need to be in a box)! Encourage your friends to get involved! Pray!!! How do we pack a box? First-- decide whether your box will be for a girl or a boy. Girls: Headbands, pretty diaries, dolls, stuffed animals. Boys: Soccer balls (with a pump), legos, toy trucks. Both girl or boy: School supplies, toothbrush, comb, hairbrush, or a personal note. What NOT to pack Candy or any food Toothpaste Gum Used or damaged items; NO Weapons Drink mixes (powdered or liquid) Breakable items NO money You can spend less that $10 to pack a box!!! For more information check online: If you have any question, you can come talk to Emily Jones or Mrs. O'Donnell As we come to the end of this year, it's time to think about giving and we hope SCA will be included in your plans - grandparents as well as parents! Nothing could be more important than to leave a Christian legacy for your children! Nothing could have a greater effect upon a generation than a Christian education! Again this year, we're hoping that every one of the school families will at least give some contribution to the Building a Legacy Program. Maybe it's as little as $25 but for some it might be as much as $2,500. It could change the whole plan for Sunrise if every family would give a gift to the program. These gifts are what allow us to have a quality program that is on the cutting edge in so many areas. It includes drama, band, SEW, WEB and many other aspects that distinguish Sunrise! Would you prayerfully consider giving a gift to the Legacy Program this year?

3 Cross Country News The HCAA Cross Country Championships were originally scheduled for Saturday, October 6, but due to weather the races were rescheduled for Tuesday, October 9. Although it rained off and on all morning, our High School, Middle School, and Elementary School athletes competed extremely well! The races were divided up in the following way: 9 th -12 th grade competed in the High School Division, 7 th -8 th grade competed in the Middle School Division, and 6 th grade and under competed in the Elementary School Division. In our 1 st year in the league, our High School Boys became the new HCAA Team Champions in an exciting finish, beating the defending champions by 1 point! Sunrise finished 1 st with a team score of 39, Providence Christian was 2 nd with 40 points, and Destiny Christian was 3 rd with 52 points. Freshman Nathan Lindholm led the way for our boys, finishing in 5 th place with a new personal best time of 18:41 for the 5k race! Senior George Tian was next for Sunrise, finishing in 8 th overall! A trio of Juniors rounded out the scoring for Sunrise- Isaiah Krumme finished in 11 th place, Andrew Keck followed with a 15 th place finish, and Noah Newport finished in 20 th place! Freshman Dylan Lear also had a great race, finishing in 23 rd place with a new personal best time of 21:34! Congrats to our High School Boys 2018 HCAA STATE CHAMPIONS! In the High School girls race, Sophomore Erin Henry led the way for our girls, finishing in 9 th place! Sophomore Aubrey Laird was next for Sunrise, finishing in 13 th place! In the next race of the day, 7 th grader Andrew VanDellen became the new Middle School Boys Individual HCAA Champion, beating the field of 33 boys as he ran a time of 8:56 for the 1.5 mile race! 8 th grader Elijah Krumme was right behind VanDellen, finishing in 3 rd place with a time of 9:06! 8 th graders Isaac Laird and Will Hoffman along with 7 th grader Jacob Silva rounded out the scoring for Sunrise, truly running as a pack as they all finished within 5 seconds of each other- Laird finished 5 th, Hoffman 6 th, and Silva 7 th place overall! Our Middle School Boys Team won the HCAA Championship in commanding fashion- the scores were as follows: Sunrise was 1 st place with 22 points, Providence Christian 2 nd place with 56 points, & Mingo Valley was 3 rd with 62 points. 8 th grader Hannah Grover continued her winning streak in the girls race, running a time of 8:56 for the 1.5 mile race and making her the new Middle School Girls Individual HCAA Champion! Fellow 8 th graders Laelle Strong and Sophie Bird also ran well, finishing in 8 th place (Strong) and 16 th place (Bird)! In the Elementary School race, 6 th grader Sara Thompson won the individual title for the girls with an outstanding time of 6:32 for the 1 mile race! 6 th grader Jonah Krumme finished in 2 nd place on the boys side with a new personal best time of 6:25! Teammates Gabe Craig and Henry Hannaford also had outstanding races, finishing in 5 th and 6 th places, running times of 6:41 and 6:42 our 6 th graders have an extremely bright future ahead of them! Congrats to all of our athletes on outstanding performances in our 1 st year at the HCAA Championships!!! On Thursday, October 11, our High School athletes and 8 th graders competed in their last meet of the season- the Udall Invitational at Udall High School. There were 7 schools competing- Udall, West Elk, Classical School, Central High School, Wellington Christian, Oxford, & Sunrise. In the High School Varsity Boys 5k race, Senior George Tian placed 4 th overall and ran a season best time of 18:18 a great finish to an outstanding cross country career at Sunrise!! Next for our high school boys was Freshman Nathan Lindholm, who placed 8 th overall! Junior Isaiah Krumme finished 10 th and Junior Andy Keck placed 11 th with a new personal best of 19:38! Junior Noah Newport finished 12 th place and Freshman Dylan Lear finished 20 th place overall! In the High School Varsity Girls race, Sophomore Erin Henry had her best race of the season, finishing in 5 th place overall and running a new personal best time of 24:04 for the 5k race! In the 8 th grade girls race, we took 1 st, 2 nd, and 4 th place- Hannah Grover finished in 1 st, Laelle Strong placed 2 nd overall in an exciting race to the finish, and Sophie Bird finished 4 th! We are so proud of all of our Sunrise Cross Country runners for their hard work and great attitudes praise the Lord for the health, strength and opportunity to compete in another great cross country season!
