If you wish to register on the day, we request you register from 10am (Adelaide time). Please note, a valid credit card saved against your registered customer account is necessary in order to bid. Both the Online Auction and the Live Auction will be open for bidding from 7 April 2017 at 1pm (Melbourne / Sydney time) at langtons.com.au. LIVE AUCTION Live auction lots will be viewable from 10am, Friday 21 April 2017 at Chateau Tanunda. Bidding for the Live Auction, will move from online at langtons.com.au, into the room at Chateau Tanunda at 11am, where the final bidding will take place under the direction of the auctioneer. No further bids for the Live Auction will be accepted through your online account, after 11am (Adelaide time) on Friday 21 April The Live Auction will close at the fall of the auctioneer s hammer in the room on Friday 21 April Bidding online: Langton s recommends that you place your maximum bid through your online account, prior to the Live Auction moving into the room, where the auctioneer will be bidding on your behalf. (Please note, you may have the leading bid at 11am online, but the successful bidder will be declared at the fall of the hammer, by the auctioneer, live in the room.) Absentee Bidding: If you are not attending the Live Auction, and have not placed bids online, you can register on the enclosed absentee bidding form. PAYMENT FOR LOTS PURCHASED All payments will be processed upon auction close and the credit card registered against your Langton s customer account will be charged. A Buyer s Premium of 16.5% inc GST is added to the winning bid when the auction closes. For lots over $10,000, alternative payment methods are available and can be actioned via your online customer account. Please note that payment will not be accepted during the conduct of the Auction. COLLECTION & SHIPPING OF LOTS WON Lots won in the Live Auction and paid in full can be collected on the day of the auction. Collection of lots purchased is not permitted under any circumstances prior to payment in full. Live Auction items not collected on the day will be returned to the relevant Vendor (winery) for safe storage. Langton s will supply the Buyer s details to the relevant Vendor (winery), which will liaise with the Buyer directly and organise shipping to the Buyer s nominated address. Shipping charges will apply at the discretion of the Vendor (winery). Lots won in the Online Auction are held securely in Langton s state-of-the-art, temperature controlled warehouse in Victoria. The estimates in this catalogue are approximate prices we expect to be realized. They are not definitive. 5 THE LANGTON S CLASSIFICATION EXPLAINED The Honour Roll of fine Australian wine Langton s Classification of Australian wine is the paramount form guide to Australia s finest wines. Entry into the Classification is based on a wine s reputation and track record at auction. The two requirements for inclusion in the Classification are that a wine has been made for a minimum of 10 vintages and that it has a track record in the secondary market. Eligibility rests on how well a wine performs in the open market the volume of demand it attracts and the prices it realises. The authority of the Classification derives from its independence; the fundamental criteria for inclusion are objective and market-driven. Revised every four years, the Classification documents an evolving Australian winemaking culture at the forefront of innovation and excellence in the world of fine wine. It maintains a strong emphasis on red wines, particularly labels renowned for cellaring potential. The inaugural Classification, in 1990, included just 34 wines. Classifications II, III and IV followed at approximately five-year intervals, tracking the leading wines, and documenting the dramatic growth and increasing maturity of the Australian fine wine scene. By 2010, when the fifth edition appeared, the Classification had evolved to include 123 wines and its authority was universally recognised. The sixth and current edition Langton s Classification of Australian Wine VI unveiled on 1 May 2014 includes 139 wines and reflects a continuing momentum towards single vineyard wines and regional identity. In its early years, the Classification successfully strengthened the fledgling market for fine Australian wine. Twenty-five years later it is arguably the most famous and widely-respected wine Classification outside Europe. Look for Langton s Classifications throughout this catalogue. 6 CATALOGUE SYMBOLS AND SEAL OF PROVENANCE LIVE AUCTION LOTS ONLINE AUCTION LOTS BAROSSA OLD VINE CHARTER The Barossa Old Vine Charter was introduced in 2009 to register vineyards by age, so that older vines could be preserved, retained and promoted. The Charter groups vineyards into four categories by age: OLD VINES Equal or greater than 35 years of age SURVIVOR VINES Equal or greater than 70 years of age CENTENARIAN VINES Equal or greater than 100 years of age ANCESTOR VINES Equal or greater than 125 years of age Look for these categories throughout this catalogue. THE BAROSSA TRUST MARK The Barossa Trust Mark is a mark of aspirational standard set by the Barossa region. It provides you with a guarantee and assurance of quality. BAROSSA WINE CHAPTERS AUCTION SEAL OF PROVENANCE The Barossa Wine Chapters Auction Seal of Provenance is verification of the wine s authenticity, direct from the cellars of the winemaker. Each seal is uniquely coded, with every auction item allocated its own individual code. This information, held securely by the Barossa Grape & Wine Association, becomes the point of verification for the life of the wine. The QR code links to the Barossa Wine Chapters Auction web page, providing an ongoing reference to the auction and information updates. 8 AUCTION RULES & PROCEDURES FORMAT & REGISTRATIONS LIVE AUCTION Barossa Wine Chapters Live Auction & Lunch will take place on Friday 21 April at Chateau Tanunda in the Barossa. ONLINE AUCTION Barossa Wine Chapters Online Auction will close at langtons.com.au on Friday 21 April, 7pm (Melbourne / Sydney time) All potential buyers are required to register with Langton s and this can be done online at langtons.com.au It is recommended buyers attending the live auction register prior to the event. Potential buyers can register and view live auction items from 10am on Friday 21 April at Chateau Tanunda. Please note a valid credit card saved against your registered customer account is necessary in order to bid at auction with Langton s. BIDDING All bidding is on a per bottle basis unless otherwise advised by the auctioneer. The auctioneer will be in charge of the bidding and any disputes will be decided at his discretion. All items are at the risk and expense of the buyer at the fall of the hammer. All sales are final and there will be no refund or exchange on items. People not attending the live auction and wish to bid please register on the enclosed absentee bidding form. To register to bid by phone. Langton s are happy to assist with any quotations regarding shipping from Australia to international addresses. All quotes and prices will be in Australian Dollars. PAYMENT Langton s charges a Buyer s Premium of 16.5% (including GST) on the lot knocked down to the buyer. DELIVERY Live Auction items paid in full can be collected on the day of the auction. Live Auction items not collected on the day remain the responsibility of the buyer and delivery will need to be arranged with the relevant Vendor (winery). Shipping charges will apply at the discretion of the Vendor. Wine purchased from the online auction is held securely in Langton s state-of-the-art, temperature-controlled warehouse in Victoria. TERMS & CONDITIONS Buyers are requested to read carefully the explanation of cataloguing practice and the conditions set out below which contains the terms on which Langton s conducts sales and handles other matters. 1) LANGTON S AS AGENT: ABN: License Number: Victoria License Number: ) AN AUCTION An auction is the process of selling Lots under the hammer, whether it is live in an auction room, or an online Auction. 3) THE BUYER: a) The highest bidder acceptable to the auctioneer shall be the buyer but if any dispute arises as to the last or best bidder, the lot in dispute shall be put up again and resold, provided that the auctioneer cannot decide who was the last or best bidder. b) The purchase price payable by the buyer shall be the final bid, together with any impost chargeable on this final bid. The final bid means the price at which a lot is knocked down to the buyer. c) The auctioneer has the right at his/her absolute discretion to refuse any bid and to advance the bidding as he/she may decide. d) The auctioneer reserves the right to withdraw any lot the sale or to combine any two or more lots at any time. 4) VENDOR: The vendor, at the auctioneer s absolute discretion, shall be entitled to place a reserve on any lot and the auctioneer shall have a right to bid on behalf of the vendor for any lot offered.

9 AUCTION RULES & PROCEDURES 5) CATALOGUE DESCRIPTIONS: All statements in the catalogue, advertisements or brochures are statements of opinion and are not, nor are they to be relied upon as statements of fact. Each lot is sold by the vendor thereof with all faults and defects (if any) and with all errors of description and shall be at the buyer s risk on the fall of the hammer and neither the auctioneer nor vendor shall be accountable for any deficiency, damage or loss which may arise thereafter. 6) RESPONSIBILITY FOR PURCHASED LOTS: a) Langton s decision will be final and binding on the buyer and vendor in all matters and no action shall be brought in connection with any claim except on and in accordance with Langton s decision. b) Wine will be released to the buyer only after full payment is received. 7) PENALTIES FOR NON-PAYMENT OR FAILURE TO COLLECT PURCHASES: If a buyer fails either to pay for or to take away any lot, Langton s shall, without further notice to the buyer and at its absolute discretion and without prejudice to any other rights or remedies it may have, be entitled to exercise one or more of the following rights or remedies: a) To issue proceedings against the buyer for damages for breach of contract. b) Charge the Buyer interest on the Total Purchase Price at the rate of 2% above the 90 day bank bill swap rate published by the Reserve Bank of Australia for each day that it remains unpaid for more than 30 days from date of the close of Auction. 10) GENERAL CONDITIONS: 1) Langton s as agents for the seller is not responsible for any default by the seller or the buyer. 2) Langton s has the right at its absolute discretion to refuse any bid, to advance the bidding as it may decide, to withdraw any lot, or combine any two or more lots. 3) The following words and expressions shall have the following meaning: Lot Any item deposited with Langton s, with a view to its sale at auction, in particular, the items or items described against any lot number in any catalogue. Bought in Those lots which fail to reach their reserves. Purchase Price The hammer price plus Buyers Premium and GST. Buyers Premium Langton s charges a Buyer s Premium of 16.5% (including GST) on the lot knocked down to the buyer. All lots are sold GST inclusive, where applicable and will be detailed on the buyer invoice. These conditions of business shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of the state of Australia in which the auction takes place and all parties concerned hereby submit to the non-executive jurisdiction of the States Court. 8) GUARANTEE: a) Subject to the obligation accepted by Langton s under this condition, none of the seller, Langton s, its employees or agents is responsible for the correctness of any statement as to authorship, origin, date, age, attribution or provenance of any lot, for any other errors of description or for any faults or defects in any lot and no warranty whatsoever is given by the seller, Langton s, its employees or agents in respect of any lot and any express or implied conditions or warranties are hereby excluded. 9) COMMISSION BIDS: a) Prospective buyers are advised to attend the auction. Langton s will however, if so instructed will execute bids on their behalf, but neither Langton s nor its employees nor agents shall be liable for any neglect or default in so doing or for failure to do so.
