1 Raymond McGovern MA Headmaster Your action: fill out and bring to the briefing evening you child s menu selections for each evening (see back two pages) Dear Parents, Guildford Lacrosse Festival 12 th -14 th July I am writing to give final details of the trip. Squad practice We will play warm up games for all those going to Guildford after school on Monday 10 th July right after school, finishing by 5.30pm Briefing evening for Students and Parents Monday 10 th July, Chapel, 7.30pm This meeting is compulsory for students, a parent is also required to attend. Students do not need to be in uniform. The evening will include final instructions on any last minute details. It is not optional. If boarders parents are unable to attend the boarder needs to attend by themselves. Those participants who do not yet have a Panda shirt will collect theirs on the night. Accommodation and coach We are travelling on one coach. Our hotel is: Premier Inn Woking West Bridge Barn Lane Horsell Woking GU21 6NL This is NOT one of the three Premier Inns which has been under suspicion of having cladding vulnerable to fire. Rex C from Haywards Heath says on Trip Advisor, They do the job, more or less.. Yes, it s got wi-fi.. Spending money: We have tried to budget for all activities in the sum charged for the visit, and the students will be issued 7 on Day 2 and 3 to buy their lunch from one of the catering points at Surrey Sports Park. Students will therefore only need money for snacks/souvenirs or if they want to buy lacrosse gear from one of the many retailers on site. Equipment: All students must bring the following: Enough playing kit to cope with 3 days of play. Make sure your panda shirt has your name in it please! St George s School, Harpenden Academy Trust. Registered in England and Wales No: Registered Office: Sun Lane, Harpenden, Herts, AL5 4TD. Tel: admin@stgeorges.herts.sch.uk Website:

2 A plain white T shirt Appropriate clothing for down time in the evening: something smart for dinner out on Thursday Don t forget chargers; straighteners A decent outdoor coat/waterproof Lacrosse stick / gum shield / goggles Footwear which is suitable for astro-turf pitches as well as grass. Wash kit and towel Sunscreen and a hat If students want to listen to music on i-pods or phones that is fine, but external speakers are my preserve alone for deafening Dutch trance music. Restrictions on use will apply to mobile phones, especially at mealtimes, and these stand to be confiscated if used at inappropriate times. They will be collected in when it s time to sleep and returned in the morning. OMG. Please bear in mind the security of hotel buildings can never be totally guaranteed, nor can day bags left on the pitch side or in the gazebo at the sports park. There will be a DVD on the coach and films appropriate to this age group but reflecting the staff s dubious taste and sense of humour will feature. Possession of alcohol, cigarettes, or any dangerous item is obviously expressly forbidden. Students should bring one large suitcase/bag/rucksack, and one item of hand luggage only. Medical: Students with particular medication needs should ensure they have adequate medicine for the duration of the visit. If a child uses an epipen please provide a second one for staff to keep on the coach. Where necessary and appropriate teaching staff will administer over-the-counter medication should your child require it unless you make clear you are not happy with this. No student may take part in the trip if they have been in close contact with an infectious disease in the 7 days before we depart. First aid Pitchside first aid cover is provided by the organisers Rooming: We have no information at this point on the number or size of rooms, but expect rooms of 3-4. Students will organise themselves into room groups on site once we have final information. The staff will be diligent to make sure no-one is left out on a limb. For the sake of privacy of others, students are only allowed in their own room; and may not host anyone in that room other than their allocated room-mate unless otherwise instructed. No photos may be taken inside rooms. Squads and Tournament Rules We have divided the girls into a Red Squad and a Green Squad, 20 in each. Opposition comes from our old friends Berkhamstead and Guildford; Queen Anne s Caversham and Caterham, both good sides but who didn t get as far as our A team did at Nationals; and two club sides Cheadle and New Stars. The tournament rules are attached and are worth reading. In particular note that if you get continually yellow carded over the early games you can end up having to sit out a match. Note also that unlike all tournaments we have played before, scoring is 3 for a win, 2 for a draw, and 1 for a close loss (not 5;3;1) Spectating

3 Parents and other hangers on are very welcome to come and watch the girls tournament. Watch out for the Armenian flag. It is possible to park at Surrey Sports Park for 5 per day. You will need to pay to get into the world cup pitches to watch the senior games. Social Media You can keep up to speed with results through on Twitter. Photos will go on the stgeorgeslax Instagram page. You need to know how these things work get with the 21 st century! If you want to follow the reflections of the Armenian President on how we are doing, follow Serze_Sargsyan_Official on Instagram. Withdrawal: Students are covered by the school policy which gives a standard level of cover. Any student who wishes to withdraw from this point onwards is likely to lose all money paid, unless it is for a certified medical reason which is covered by the visit insurance. Even in such cases, there would be an excess and a small additional deduction. A student involved in a serious disciplinary incident in school might, even at this late stage, lose their place on the trip. Discipline: Students on visits are ambassadors for the school. Behaviour will be exemplary at all times. This applies especially during periods of free time that will be given. Student conduct on trips has always been exceptionally good, and I do not expect any problems from the students in the party this year. Nevertheless, I have attached a Code of Conduct which we will be expecting, and ask that you join us in making your child well aware of what we expect and what consequences they might face if they fail to live up to that standard. In periods of free time under remote supervision, there will be a strict requirement that they stay in groups of at least 3. Photography: We intend to take pictures of students during the visit. A selection of these may be put on the school website, although students names will not feature. If you do not want your child s picture to appear on the website or school Facebook page, please let me know. Return to school: Students will re-start school at 0840 on Monday 17th July in normal uniform for their normal lessons. Staff: Taking the group in addition to myself will be Miss Ellie Sayers (Head of Lacrosse), Mrs Emma Sabato, parent coaches Sarah Maclaren and Steve Ball, and Mai Ledsham in Year 11 who has helped coach the girls for the last two years Emergency contact info: In emergencies only Mr Storrie can be contacted on Mr Cullis is the senior contact back in Harpenden. He is contactable in emergency on Yours sincerely, Mr. P. Storrie Deputy Headteacher
