2 Page 2 Spring - is - bust-in - out - all - o-o-ver... April 2008 Presidents Note Dear Friends, Here we are, already talking and feeling spring. Easter has come and gone already. The Club continues to have plans to keep us busy and out there enjoying our friends. The Book Group has grown to be so popular that they are no longer meeting for lunch. No table is big enough for all to sit around. The books are sounding really interesting and they say that the discussion is great. We now have Poker in addition to. And somewhere out there might even be a Canasta group (as I recall). If you've been to any of the dressier parties lately, you would also be aware that the Jewelry Group is thriving. They are beading up a storm, and the results are beautiful. And, I believe that our long awaited International Group should be meeting this month with some discussion of Spain. Lots to do for everyone. Ruth Phillips Board Meeting DATE: Thursday, April 3rd TIME: 10:30 am AT: The home of Sonja Drummond 2 Horseshoe Road RSVP: To Sonja, if you can t attend. 4 Page 4 April 2008 DATE: Friday, April 18 TIME: 11:30 am LOCATION: Studio of Hanneke Goedkoop, Wilson Avenue Loft Artists, Norwalk Join us for a most interesting talk and demonstration by mixed-media artist and print-maker, Hanneke Goedkoop. Born in the Netherlands and educated in Switzerland and Belgium, Hanneke has studied extensively in Europe and the USA. Her work is held in private collections here (where she is also affiliated with numerous galleries and associations) and in the Netherlands. She has recently moved from the Loft Artists Association in Stamford to the new studio complex on Wilson Avenue in Norwalk. rsvp to Kay Gluck: call or to kaygluck@sbcgloval.net as soon as possible as space is limited. (directions to follow) International Date: Tuesday, April 29 Time 10:00 At: Home of Anne Richards 59 Old Highway R.S.V.P. Anne at after 4/15 Place: La Saliere Brasserie 3 Big Shop Lane Ridgefield Date: Friday, April 11 th Time: 12 Noon RSVP: By Monday April 7 th to Julie Shevchik at or JShevchik@aol.com La Saliere (which means salt shaker in French ) is a restaurant where you can enjoy seafood prepared French style and a continental menu that offers something for everyone. The chef/owner Mario Molliere was the chef at Luc s prior to opening this restaurant. He trained with Paul Bucuse in Paris and won a best apprentice award during his training. The restaurant is Zagat rated and received a good from The New York Times. The restaurant is casual with a décor inspired by the Caribbean or the South Seas with netting, starfish & iridescent tropical fish. The lunch menu is extensive and reasonable and includes soups, salads (including Salad Nicoise), sandwiches and main courses. The restaurant is located in the space that was formerly Biscotti s. It is a little tricky to get to. Take Route 7 north to Route 102 in Ridgefield. Take 102 to the end (Main Street) and make a right. Continue on Main Street and make a right on Big Shop Lane. The restaurant is on the left in the last building. Big Shop Lane is a very narrow lane that is easily missed. It is between Bailey Ave. and Prospect Street. Slow down on Main Street once you cross Bailey Ave and look for Big Shop Lane s street sign. Big Shop Lane looks more like an alley than a street. Julie Shevchik Dorita Blanchard and Anne Richards spent some time in Spain last fall and would like to share their experiences with you. Tapas will be served following the talk and all are invited. If you would like to see a bit of Spain prior to the meeting go to philrichards.net and view 1000 s of pictures taken there. Call after April 15th cause we are still working on income taxes. LOL, LOL, LOL! APRIL COFFEE Friday, April 4th 10 AM at the home of Sonja Drummond 2 Horseshoe Road RSVP by Wednesday, April 2nd To Sonja at

Perhaps a quick warm-up trip to the par 3 course in Fairfield to open our season would get us started on the right track. The new tennis courts are just waiting for us to come play. If you have interest in playing either of these games, please let me know and we ll see if we can get 4 to go. You don t have to be an expert to have fun in fact, it s more fun if you are not an expert. We all continue to learn these games. Anne Richards, Summer Activities The sun was warm but the wind was chill. You know how it is with an April day. When the sun is out and the wind is still, You're one month on in the middle of May. But if you so much as dare to speak, a cloud come over the sunlit arch, And wind comes off a frozen peak, And you're two months back in the middle of March. - Robert Frost
