In two weeks or so the market should come back to earth as more fruit comes on. Peaches Bakersfield grown early yellow varieties expected to start by mid-week, but sizing will be small & fruit will be unripe. In a few weeks there should be larger, riper, sweeter fruit, at a more digestible price point.

Weather Watch/Farm Forecast: New crop White & Yellow Corn, Blue Lake Beans, Cucumbers, plus Green, Red & Yellow Bell Peppers have started from the Coachella Valley, with Eggplant, Yellow Squash & Zucchini slated for harvest next week. Salinas is up and running! Typical for this time of year, expect some quality, yield & price variations over the next few weeks. Asparagus: Cooler weather limits CA supply, & MX season is winding down. WA grass starting up this week, which should help cover strong demand. We re expecting a few Pencil sized Asparagus this week. Onions: Conventional Red, White & Yellow Onions supplies from the Pacific Northwest are just about finished for the season. We re buying export grade currently, but that said, quality is only fair; some Onions are softer than ideal & may cut brown inside. The good news is that new crop Onions from the Fresno area are scheduled to start in about 2 weeks! 3 Farm Spotlight: County Line South David Retsky started County Line Harvest on a six-acre plot on the Sonoma-Marin County line before moving over the hill in 2007 to Red Hill Ranch in Marin County. Shortly after settling in on the new property, Marin Agriculture Land Trust acquired the easement on Red Hill Ranch, preserving it forever as farmland. Not only did this new property provide more acreage for cultivation, but the abundance of renewable on-site water and the MALT easement helped ensure the continuation of County Line s goal to provide fresh produce to its surrounding communities. County Line now farms in two locations to ensure the highest quality of outstanding greens and lettuces, root vegetables, and herbs year round. 4 Cheese & Specialty News News: -Cinco De Mayo is this weekend and we will have plenty of local Queso Salazar cheese from salty queso fresco to buttery cotija to panela that is ready to be grilled. -Wildwood is still short on teriyaki and baked tofu flavors. -Bleating Heart s Death & Taxes is due in next week. -Bellwether Farms is running low on Sheep and Jersey Ricotta. Until they can produce more of their hard cheese, the whole jersey ricotta will be the only one available with any regularity. -Just Mayo continues to be in short supply due to a label issue.
