7 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 Burgundy 2010 Domaine A - E Date & place of tasting shown in italics The winter was cold at times bitter and the cool of the spring went on until mid June so the flowering was difficult taking place in indifferent weather with couloure and millerandage prevalent limiting crop size potential. Towards the end of June the weather improved with July being very hot and dry only interrupted by a number of hailstorms. August was warm with a certain amount of rain the sort of conditions that produce oidium and rot. September saw a change in the weather with cool windy days, a north wind that brought little rain, clear skies, sunny days and cool nights an ideal combination for ripening the grapes. A violent storm with heavy rain and hail on the 12 th of September caused local damage in the Côte de Beaune but the harvest mostly took place during the last couple of weeks of September in fine weather with only a few showers interrupting play. The crop was small with yields a good deal lower than 2009 with the Côte de Beaune being particularly low due to a combination of problems, the flowering time and the September storm. On the whole it looked good with healthy, ripe grapes with enough acidity. The style is different to 2009 with wines that are not so plush with much more of a backbone and good concentration of flavour more like the 2008 vintage. As well as good reds especially on the Côte de Nuits there are some lovely whites and some very classic stylish quite austere Chablis. White 9/10 Drink Now / Keep Red 9/10 Keep Domaine Stéphane Aladame Montagny Montagny 1er Cru Découverte There is a lot of rich fruit on the nose powerful greengage and the sweetness of the fruit gives depth to the palate. Under the fruit power there is freshness a mix of apple and lime that brings out the flavours on the finish. Montagny 1er Cru Sélection Vieilles Vignes The nose although very fresh is light lacking in any fruit richness. There is a touch of melon on the mid palate but towards the back it is light crisp and quite lean. 7 Master of Wine: Derek Smedley Master of Wine: Derek Smedley

8 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Montagny 1er Cru Les Vignes Derrière The nose has a good depth of flavour some ripe fruit and this richness fills out the start of the palate. The mid palate is fresher with apple and grapefruit but the ripe flavours are there at the back enriching the finish. Montagny 1er Cru les Coères Vieilles Vignes The sweetness of the fruit gives richness on the nose and fills out the palate. Greengage and melon intermingle lovely and complex both backed by freshness from the attractive mix of lime and apple. Chablis 1er Cru Vaucoupin 2010 Domaine Alain Gautheron The wines from this lesser known 1er Cru are sleek and mineral driven yet have an underlying pear and greengage richness. Alain Gautheron s vines are old producing lots of complexity in the wine the creamy richness of the mid palate giving way to apple and mineral freshness on the finish. It certainly suits most fish dishes but makes a great partner to shellfish. Domaine Alain Gautheron Chablis Chablis 1er Cru Vaucoupin Tasted at the Carlton Club November 2012 Tasted at Innholders January The wines from this lesser known 1er Cru are sleek and mineral driven yet have an underlying pear and greengage richness. Alain Gautheron s vines are old producing lots of complexity in the wine the creamy richness of the mid palate giving way to apple and mineral freshness on the finish. It certainly suits most fish dishes but makes a great partner to shellfish. Closerie des Alisiers Marsannay Pouilly-Fuissé Tasted in London at the Yapp Brothers tasting September 2012 The nose is very fresh with lime and minerals. The freshness on the start of the palate gives way to some sweeter greengage but towards the back the apple and lime gives it crispness. Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 8

9 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 Domaine Bertrand Ambroise Prémeaux Nuits-Saint-Georges Bourgogne Chardonnay There are some nice fresh fruits on the nose quite light but fragrant. The palate lacks real depth and although there is a mineral freshness towards the back it finish a bit short. Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits The melon that underpins the apple gives a richer feel to both nose and palate. The palate starts fresh slightly lacking in weight but there is a sweeter feel towards the back all a bit dominated by oak. Côte de Nuits Villages Blanc Tasted at the Charles Taylor tasting London September 201 The nose is fresh the palate herbal with apple freshness. The mid palate has a little more depth slightly sweeter but the finish is firm and very fresh. Côte de Nuits Villages The nose lacks richness of fruit with more red fruits than black. The mid palate is light slightly hollow but it feels richer with a slightly better weight of fruit towards the finish. Domaine Amiot Servelle Chambolle-Musigny Chambolle-Musigny The fruit on the nose is rich with more black in evidence than red. Although the palate starts quite full and rich the mid palate is fresher and the back palate quite light. Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes Bramble and bilberry are there on the nose which is attractively fragrant. There is freshness on the start of the palate hints of red fruits under the black but the middle is full of rich ripe flavours filling it out and giving richness towards the back. 9 Master of Wine: Derek Smedley Master of Wine: Derek Smedley

10 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Domaine D Ardhuy Corgoloin Beaune 1er Cru Petit Clos Blanc des Theurons Monopole Tasted at the Winery November 2014 Rich ripe fruit the nose has a mix of apricot and pineapple and the palate has fleshy depth. Lemon and lime on the back palate help to balance but it finishes heavy, fleshy with a hint of oak and the feel of maturity. Domaine de l Arfentière Uchizy Mâcon-Uchizy Tasted at Lincoln s Inn May 2012 There is lovely lime freshness on the nose and the palate starts with lots of fresh fruit crisp apple. It feels sweeter on the mid palate with greengage richness but the mineral and apple towards the back refreshes. Tasted in Lincoln s Inn March The nose is still fresh and the start of th plate bright. The mid sweetness gives way to lime freshness with leafy maturity showing on the finish. Domaine Arlaud Morey-Saint-Denis Morey-Saint-Denis There is a lot of sweet ripe fruit on the nose an attractive mix of red and black fruits. The tannins are ripe and rounded adding to the lushness but under all of the sweetness there is enough freshness to balance. Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 10

The tannins are ripe and rounded helping to enrich the mid palate lots of black cherry and ripe mulberry complex, layers of flavour. Vins Auvigue Charnay-lès-Mâcon Mâcon Fuissé Tasted at Leathersellers November 2012 The nose has the freshness of apple and grapefruit and although the palate starts quite fresh the mid palate is richer with some melon and greengage. It finishes quite light but mineral and citrus fresh. Saint-Véran Moulin du Pont Tasted at Leathersellers November 2012 Tasted at Innholders January Apple refreshes the nose and gives a lovely freshness on the start of the palate. The mid palate has the richness of melon and greengage a good weight and depth of flavour but towards the back it is very citrus dominated leaving an attractive freshness on the finish. Pouilly-Fuissé Les Crays Tasted at the Mansion House July 2012 There is a lot of rich fruit on the nose and some fleshy greengage on the start of the palate. The mid palate is lighter lovely and fresh with cut apple and grapefruit refreshing the finish. Domaine Bachey-Legros Santenay-Le-Haut Bourgogne Chardonnay The nose has a racy freshness with lots of lime and apple in evidence. There is a lot of ripe sweet fruited melon filling out the mid palate but towards the back the freshness of the apple and lime takes over lifting the flavours and refreshing the finish. 12 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 There is a complex mix on the nose with the apple freshness underpinned by richer greengage. Ripe fruits give weight and flesh on the mid palate but towards the back citrus refreshes with a lovely mineral shale character bringing out the fragrances and giving a lighter feel to the long finish. Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc The nose is misleadingly fresh as the palate is full of rich, ripe sweet fruit. There is a mix of flavours layers of fruit giving complexity with the richness of apricot and melon underpinned by apple and lime that refreshes the back palate. Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot There are apricots and whites peaches on the nose lovely rich ripe and honeyed. The palate is packed with rich flavours yellow fruits backed by ripe melon. Towards the back it feels crisper a lovely mix of citrus and apple with lots of mineral and flint refreshing the back palate. Tasted in Dyers Hall January The nose has depth the richness of apricots and whites peaches the start of the palate rich, ripe and honeyed. Fresh fruit in the middle is underpinned by yellow fruits depth and richness yet there is balance with the underlying mineral freshness. It has filled out on the back palate with a nice depth of flavour Maranges En Goty The nose has an attractive mix of flavours the freshness of raspberry backed by the slightly sweeter richer blackberry. Although the mid palate is soft quite fleshy the red fruits refresh and give an elegant feel to the finish. Santenay Les Charmes Vieille Vignes The fruit on the nose is quite rich and gives depth of flavour on the start of the palate. Bramble and black cherry appear to dominate but then behind there is some red fruit quite fleshy mulberry. Although the tannins are ripe helping the suppleness on the mid palate there is enough freshness behind to balance Santenay Clos des Hâtes Vieille Vignes There is a lot of brooding black fruit on the nose and the richness of the mix gives power on the palate. Firm tannins support the fruit but although firm they feel ripe not holding back fruit expression. Concentrated black cherry fills out the back palate and gives richness on the finish. 13 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 Santenay 1er Cru Clos Rousseau The nose has all the freshness of red fruits and these give a lively start to the palate. Sweet strawberry and cassis give richness on the mid palate the suppleness helped by rounded ripe tannins. The fresh flavours towards the back bring out the complexities and the hint of spice. Chassagne-Montrachet Les Plantes Momières The nose has a lot of lovely rich sweet fruit all very black fruit in character. The ripeness of the fruit fills out the palate the fleshy richness helped by the non obtrusive tannins. The flavours are deep and sweet but towards the back there is enough raspberry and red cherry to fresh the finish. Domaine Daniel Barraud Vergisson Mâcon Chaintre Pierres Polies Tasted at the Mansion House July 2013 The nose is fat rich sweet fruited and the palate is heavy with lots of rich flavours. Although slightly fresher in the middle the back palate is flabby lacking fruit freshness. Domaine Roger Belland Santenay Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard The nose is light fragrant with lots of minerals under the lime and apple. There is a little more depth on the mid palate but it is the mineral freshness that wins through on the finish. Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard Both nose and palate are very light and although there are some attractive fragrances there is not much sweetness showing. 14 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Domaine Bellenand Pouilly-Fuissé Pouilly-Fuissé Tasted at Patrice Noyelle s Retirement Dinner Vintners Hall July 2013 The fruit is ripe the nose and palate quite sweet with the mid richness underpinned by freshness citrus and apple, minerals and flint. The fresh fruit lingers on the finish. Domaine Vincent & Denis Bertheau Fixin Fixin Les Crais Tasted in Burgundy October 2010 The nose has an attractive mix of perfumes light and fresh. Raspberry dominates the palate its freshness underpinned by richer sweeter mulberry. The back palate is quite light with a floral mix coming through on the finish. Maison Albert Bichot Nuits-Saint-Georges Chablis Grand Cru Domaine Longdepaquit Tasted at the IWC Taste of Gold Lords June 2012 The fruit on the nose is rich and sweet yet there is freshness at the back. The palate starts with sweetness but underpinning is some lime and apple that refreshes lifting the flavours on the finish. Mâcon Villages Tasted at the Carlton Club September 2012 Both nose and palate are full of rich fat quite heavy flavours but under the weight of fruit there is high acidity citrus acidity and firm slightly drying tannins. The back palate is light and lacking in generosity. Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vides Bourses Tasted at the IWC Taste of Gold Lords June Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 14

15 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 The nose is broad deep and rich fruited with the same depth of fruit enriching the start of the palate. Greengage and melon are underpinned by a hint of apple giving a fresher feel in the middle but the back palate has breadth of flavour and the finish has fruit richness. Côtes de Beaune Villages Tasted at the Carlton Club May 2013 The fruit feels ripe the nose rich and the palate sweet fruited. Behind the fuller flavoured redcurrant and raspberry refresh and although quite light towards the back the sweetness of the fruit is there giving more depth and richness on the finish. Corton Grand Cru Clos des Marechaudes Domaine du Pavillon Tasted at the IWC Taste of Gold Lords June 2012 The nose has a rich mix of flavours mulberry tending to dominate the bramble. The mid palate is sweet fruited lots of rich flavours with the layers of fruit giving complexity. Although there is a lot of power towards the back the finish has a stylish elegance. Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru Domaine du Clos Frantin Tasted at the IWC Taste of Gold Lords June 2012 There is an opulent richness about the nose and the palate is packed with ripe fruit. Blackcurrant and bramble vie with mulberry for dominance the layers of flavour giving lots of complexity. Although the mid palate has a supple richness helped by ripe tannins there is enough freshness to give a lighter more elegant feel on the finish. Domaine Samuel Billaud Chablis Chablis There is a lovely freshness on the nose a wine that sees no oak being stainless steel fermented and stored. It is racy with fresh apple and mineral crispness on the palate. Towards the back it is a touch lean just lacking a little richness. 16 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Chablis The nose is fruity with crisp apple flavours. The mid palate has some sweeter fruit but the finish is chalky flinty and apple fresh. Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume Under the white flowers there is a nice depth of fruit on the nose with a touch of honey. The mid palate has weight of flavour but the back palate is mineral driven racy and crisp. Chablis Le Clos Grand Cru The nose has depth of fruit and intensity of flavour. The mix of greengage and melon on the palate is rich and quite sweet but towards the back mineral and apple raciness take over giving a lovely freshness on the finish. Domaine Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune Bourgogne Blanc les Perrières The nose has an attractive freshness with a good mix of flavours. Although the palate starts fresh but there is mid sweetness giving a richer feel but the apple and lime shows at the back refreshing. Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc The mix of melon and greengage is sweet filling out the nose and although there is mid richness on the palate there is enough freshness to lift the flavours on the finish. Bourgogne Rouge les Perrières The fruit is ripe giving sweetness and richness on the nose. Red and black fruits give some complexity on the palate the richness balanced by a racy freshness. Aloxe Corton les Suchot There is some nice rich fruit but it was difficult to judge as the sample was oxidising and unclean. Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 16

17 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru les Vergelesses There are attractive red fruits on the nose and the red fruits dominate the start of the palate. Some sweeter strawberry enriches the mid palate with raspberry refreshing the finish. Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Bourgeots Tasted in Beaune June 2013 Red fruits give freshness on the nose and a firm start to the palate. The mid palate is a bit tight with rather obvious tannins but there is a good weight of sweeter fruit coming through at the back. Domaine Marc-Antonin Blain Chassagne-Montrachet Chasagne-Montrachet Blanc Although the nose is quite light there are some attractive fragrances. The palate starts fresh quite light and racy and although there is a richer feel towards the back the finish is quite light and apple fresh. Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru The nose has an appealing fragrant freshness with a lime and apple mix. The richness of greengage fleshes out the mid palate and the mix of fruits and layers of flavour give complexity with a mineral and apple mix refreshing the finish. Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge The nose has lots of fresh red fruit all quite fragrant. The palate starts quite light but there some sweeter richer fruits in the middle. The finish has the floral red fragrances as the nose. Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 1er Cru Morgeot Red fruits dominate the nose the freshness of raspberry backed by richer fleshier mulberry. 18 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Domaine Blain-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc The nose is light and the palate lacks a bit of substance. Although there are sweeter flavours in the middle the finish is quite light but fragrant and fresh fruited. Puligny-Montrachet There is a lovely racy mineral quality on the nose and lovely slate and apple on the start of the palate. Some richer greengage fills out the mid palate but the finish is light racy and quite elegant. Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Boudriotte Ripe melon gives richness on the nose and fills out the start of the palate. The sweet fruit that enriches the mid palate is balanced by freshness and this gives a racier lighter feel to the finish. Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru The nose is rich packed out with ripe fruit. The palate has a good depth of flavour lovely ripe flavours but under it are layers of apple and slate giving complexity and refreshing the finish. Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 1er Cru Morgeot The nose is quite tight with red cherry to the fore. The palate is sweeter richer still very red fruit in flavour and the sweetness richness towards the back is helped by ripe tannins. Volnay 1er Cru Champans The nose has a lovely mix of flavours black and red fruits lots of wine gums. The red cherry on the palate is firm and the tannic structure gives it tightness then towards the back but sweeter fruits come through enriching and filling out the finish. 19 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 Chablis 1er Cru Tasted at the IWC Taste of Gold Lords June 2012 Cut apple gives a lovely crispness on the nose and start of the palate. There are sweeter fruits on the mid palate with a lighter feel towards the back racy fresh fruited and mineral. Jean Claude Boisset Nuits-Saint-Georges Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes Tasted at the IWC Taste of Gold Lords June 2012 The nose has a hedgerow mix of fragrances bramble and rosehip in character. The black fruits at the start of the palate are rich and sweet but behind there is redcurrant freshness that gives a lighter feel on the back palate. Pierre Boisson Meursault Meursault Tasted at the Farr Vintners tasting Boodles London May 2013 This is the honeyed style of Meursault with lots of rich fruit on the nose and sweetness on the palate. The rich flavours are balanced by freshness towards the back a touch of citrus but the finish is full sweet with honeyed flavours. Maison Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune Beaune du Château Blanc 1er Cru Tasted in Beaune June 2013 The nose has a nice depth of sweet fruit and the palate has the richness of greengage. Towards the back apple gives an attractive freshness. Puligny-Montravchet 1er Cru Les Champs Gains Master of Wine: Derek Smedley Master of Wine: Derek Smedley

20 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Tasted in Beaune June 2013 There is an attractive racy chalkiness on the nose and a fresh mineral start to the palate. Although slightly richer in the middle the finish has mineral and apple crispness. Beaune du Château Rouge 1er Cru Tasted in Beaune June 2013 The red fruits are light fresh raspberry and redcurrant. The mid palate feels sweeter yet towards the back the fresher red fruits dominate leaving the finish quite light. Monthélie 1er Cru Clos Château Fulliots Tasted in Beaune June 2013 The fruit on both nose and palate is sweet and ripe with a mix of red and black fruits. Fine tannins and ripe fruit give a mid palate suppleness then towards the back redcurrant takes over giving a lighter fresher feel on the finish. Le Corton Grand Cru Tasted at the Tim Stanley-Clarke Dinner Mossimans March 2015 The nose has a smoky fragrant charm spring violets wood smoke. The fruit is ripe the start of the palate fleshy and rich black plums but behind the sweetness red fruits refresh the back palate lighter the finish though is rich, lush, farmyards and black fruits. Domaine Raymond Bouland Villié-Morgon Morgon Vieilles Vignes Tasted at the Royal College of Physicians January 2012 The nose is full of meaty chunky fruit red fruited lots of strawberries. The mid palate has sweetness quite fat with an underlying freshness that helps to balance. The finish is a bit tight with hints of green pepper. 21 BURGUNDY 2010 August 23, 2012 The nose although is quite light it has a fragrant charm. Red fruits refresh the mid palate but towards the back there are some richer black giving more weight and the finish are quite full and sweet. Volnay Clos de la Cave The red fruits on the nose have a fragrant charm quite fresh and the start to the palate is the same fresh quite light but a lovely mix of fruits. The tannins give structure but feel ripe helping the richness of the flavours towards the back. Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes Rich ripe fleshy strawberry is backed by slightly fresher mulberry. The richness of the fruit fills out the mid palate and gives depth and power of flavour towards the back. There is enough underlying freshness to balance. Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens It is quite rich with an attractive mix of red and black fruits. The ripeness of the fruit gives a fleshy richness on the palate the strawberry underpinned by mulberry and red cherry. Domaine J Boulon Corcelles en Beaujolais Beaujolais Nouveau Tasted in Lilley October 2010 The nose has lots of sweet damson plum backed and refreshed by black cherry. There is lovely sweet fruit on the palate a good weight of ripe fruit fleshing out the middle. The start of the palate is fresh with a lovely mix of mainly red fruits. There is some sweetness in the middle but towards the back the mix of red fruits and chewy black cherry refresh. The palate has the same complex mix black cherry and bramble backed by mulberry and redcurrant. The fruit is ripe giving mid sweetness and the back palate has a lovely richness and depth of fruit. Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils Meursault Meursault Les Grands Charrons The nose is fat rich full of honeyed fruit. Ripe melon gives flesh on the palate backed by the richness of greengage. Towards the back there is apple freshness some crisp acidity with a spiciness coming through on the finish. Meursault Le Limozin The ripeness of the fruit gives an opulent richness on the nose and fills out the start of the palate. There is a lot of lime and apple on the palate quite crisp in the middle but the back palate feels richer more weight of greengage and melon. Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières Ripe fruit fills out the nose and gives a rich start on the palate. There is a mix of flavours quite complex ripe feeling fruit in the middle but towards the back apple wins through refreshing the finish. Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard Préhy Chablis Mâcon Uchizy Tasted at the Royal College of Physicians September 2011 The nose is lovely and fresh lime and mineral driven and this freshness is there on the start of the palate. Some sweeter more tropical fruit comes through in the middle but there is lots of mineral and citrus at the back crisping up the finish. Prieuré Saint Côme Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume Tasted at the Carlton Club November 2012 Fresh fruits citrus and apple dominate the nose and give a crisp start to the palate. Greengage and apple give a little more weight on the mid palate with the lime and flint refreshing the finish. 24 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Beaujolais Cuvée Première les Terres Dorées The nose although fragrant lacks richness of fruit. The palate is light quite fresh with a very red fruit influence. Morgon les Terres Dorées The red fruits feel sweet but are quite light. There is enough sweetness to enrich the mid palate but the freshness gives a lighter feel towards the back. Domaine Bzikot Puligny-Montrachet Bourgogne Blanc There is lots of apple on the nose with the freshness balanced by slightly sweeter greengage. The palate has ripe fruit in the middle lots of pineapple but this richness is balanced by the mineral and citrus freshness at the back. Santenay Le Chainey Rich fruit fills out the nose and the start of the palate. The mid palate is lean with lemon and mineral leaving the finish quite tight. Although some greengage features on the finish it feels very mineral lean and firm. Puligny-Montrachet The nose is full of rich ripe fruit and the sweetness gives weight on the start of the palate. Under the ripe fruit, the rich melon, there is citric and apple freshness that brings out the flavours helping length and bringing out the fruit mix on the finish. Puligny-Montrachet La Rousselle The nose is deep with lots of rich concentrated flavours. Ripe fruit enriches the mid palate with melon and greengage fleshy and sweet fruited. There is an underlying freshness, chalk and mineral all helping to balance the sweet ripe fruit and give a leaner racier feel on the finish. The fruit is ripe with lots of melon and greengage enriching the mid palate and giving weight towards the back. The richness is nicely balanced by freshness crisp apple and this brings out the fragrances and lifts the flavours towards the back giving the finish elegance and length. Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières The nose has the freshness of mineral and crisp apple all quite lean but at the back there is the feel of richer fruit. The palate mirrors the nose lovely and fresh racy and mineral but underneath there is fruit richness sweetness of flavour yet the richness is balanced by the apple and chalk that comes through refreshing the finish. Auxey-Duresses The nose has lots of red fruits all quite fresh and fragrant. Behind the fresh start on the palate there is sweetness all very red fruit in character. The back palate is light fresh fruited with an attractive mix of raspberry and redcurrant. Tasted at the Domaine June The nose has raspberry freshness and palate is quite light but with a nice mix of flavours. The back palate and finish are red fruited and fresh but lacking little depth. Volnay The mix of bramble and black cherry gives richness on the nose and a nice weight of flavour on the palate. The acidity on the palate is high and this is masking what sweet fruit lies behind. Mercurey 1er Cru Les Gravieres Tasted at the Charles Hawkins tasting January 2012 Red fruits dominate the nose with lots of raspberry and loganberry. There are richer fruits in the middle some fleshy melon but mineral citrus freshness is there at the back giving elegance to the finish. Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet Puligny-Montrachet There is not a lot of fruit showing on the nose and the start of the palate is very light quite fragrant and crisp but lacking in fruit richness. The mix of citrus and apple towards the back gives a racy feel to the finish. Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts Although the nose has lots of fresh red fruits the palate is rich full of ripeness sweet and lush. There are layers of flavour giving complexity the richness balanced by freshness and this gives quite an elegant feel on the finish. Domaine du Cerberon Meursault Meursault 1er Cru Les Cras Tasted in the Carlton Club February 2016 Fresh fruits the nose is light and fragrant and the start of the palate has apple freshness. Honeyed and rich in the middle ripe melon is backed by greengage depth of fruit and although there is citrus at the back the finish has depth and sweetness. The sweetness of flavour is refreshed by apple and citrus and this gives a lighter feel towards the back. Mercurey The mix of redcurrant and raspberry is fresh and fragrant and this freshness is there on the start of the palate. The mid palate is richer more strawberry in flavour and although there is sweetness on the back palate the fresher fruits that lie underneath give a lighter feel to the finish. Mercurey 1er Cru Les Ruelles The nose is packed with wild strawberries sweet ripe yet with some freshness at the back. There are layers of flavour on the mid palate all very red fruit in flavour. Although the mid palate is quite rich the back palate is lighter with lovely fragrances in evidence. Maison Champy Beaune Mâcon-Uchizy Tasted at Champy November 2011 Both nose and palate are very fresh lots of lime and apple backed by minerals and a touch of spice. Some richer fruit gives weight on the mid palate but the finish mirrors the nose crisp, quite fragrant with fresh fruit and minerals. Rully Tasted at Champy November 2011 There is more weight on the nose with some greengage in evidence. The palate is fuller with some richer flavours but then towards the back the apple and lime mix lightens and refreshes. Auxey-Duresses Tasted at Champy November Master of Wine: Derek Smedley 28

Apple and lime come through towards the back refreshing but the finish lacks the weight of fruit that the nose promises. Saint Romain Tasted at Champy November 2011 The nose has an attractive mineral raciness quite light and slightly lacking in fruit intensity. Some sweeter pineapple fills out the mid palate and although there is greengage coming through towards the back it just lacks real intensity of flavour. Pernand-Vergelesses Les Belles Filles Tasted at Champy November 2011 The nose is quite rich with some attractive sweet fruit and this richness of flavour is there on the start of the palate. Towards the back it feels fresher with a mix of grapefruit and apple underpinned by minerals. Pernand Vergelesses Les Combottles Tasted at Champy November 2011 There is a mineral raciness backed by fresh grapefruit on the nose with nice ripe feeling greengage giving richness and weight on the mid palate. The sweetness is balanced by freshness the citrus and mineral mix giving a racy feel to the finish. Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru En Caradeux Tasted at Champy November 2011 The nose is light fresh but lacking some substance and the rather high acidity gives both nose and palate a lean feel. Under the chalky citric freshness there is some sweetness but the acidity tends to win. Beaune 1er Cru Les Reversées Tasted at Champy November 2011 Greengage and melon enrich the nose and give flesh on the palate. The sweetness of the fruit is balanced by the underlying freshness a touch of lime and apple. There is enough sweet fruit to flesh out the back palate but the finish has freshness that brings out the flavours highlighting the slightly salty tang. Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru Tasted at Champy November 2011 Pineapple on the nose gives the richness whilst grape fruit and apple the freshness. The palate has a good depth of flavour a mix of sweet melon and fresh grapefruit. It lacks a bit of intensity and complexity yet there is attractive fruit coming through on the long finish. 30 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Tasted at Champy November 2011 The nose is very fresh with a mix of red fruits and it is the red fruit influence that is very much in evidence on the palate. There is a good deal of mid acidity lots of raspberry and redcurrant and this tends to overpower the sweeter flavours. Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Fourches Tasted at Champy November 2011 There is a floral charm about the nose brought out by the freshness. The palate starts slightly sweeter still quite red fruited but then towards the back the acidity comes through rather overpowering any sweetness. Volnay Tasted at Champy November 2011 Red and black fruits vie for dominance on the nose and it is the black fruits that feature more strongly on the start of the palate. There is a lot of mid freshness which tends to hold back the fruit on the finish. Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses Tasted at Champy November 2011 The nose has a good mix of flavours mainly red fruit in character. Raspberry and red cherry are underpinned by some richer bramble and this sweetness of fruit gives richness on the back palate. The finish is very fresh red fruited and mineral. Beaune 1er Cru Les Champs Pimont Tasted at Champy November 2011 The nose is full of ripe black fruits and the ripeness of the fruit fills out the mid palate. Behind the blackberry and black cherry there is freshness some raspberry and mulberry and the red fruit influence gives a lighter more elegant feel on the finish. Volnay 1er Cru Les Taillepieds Tasted at Champy November 2011 There is a lot of black fruit on the nose quite deep and brooding and although it is there enriching the start of the palate structured tannins rather overtake and hold back the fruit on the finish. Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots Tasted at Champy November 2011 There is a powerful mix of flavours on the nose all quite black fruit driven. The mid palate has lots of sweet fruit a lovely richness with fleshy mulberry and cassis. The richness and power are balanced by the freshness that comes through towards the back. The ripeness shows on the mid palate all quite fleshy and rich and this weight of fruit is there at the back filling out the finish. Domaine Chandon de Briailles Savigny-lès-Beaune Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fourneaux The mix of mainly red fruits on the nose is very fragrant. Raspberry gives freshness and strawberry richness on the palate a nice mix of flavours. The finish is long with an appealing freshness. Corton Maréchaudes Grand Cru There is a lot happening on the nose first ripe feeling black fruits then lighter fresher red. The layers of flavour on the palate give complexity and although lighter in the middle there is lots of ripe fruit power on the finish Corton Bressandes Grand Cru The nose has all the floral fragrances of red fruits backed by some richer red and black cherry. The palate starts quite firm sweeter in the middle with enough freshness at the back to give the long finish an appealing elegance. Domaine Alain Chavy Puligny-Montrachet Puligny-Montrachet The nose has a chalky mineral racy feel and there is some attractive fresh lime and apple on the palate. 32 August 23, 2012 BURGUNDY 2010 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Gains There is a racy freshness about the nose with minerals and slate underpinning the lime and apple mix. The palate is lean directional with lovely fresh fruit in the middle and although slightly richer greengage gives some weight towards the back the finish is lovely and fresh. Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Folatières Melon richness gives a fuller feel on the nose and the ripe greengage enriches the mid palate. Under all of this sweet fruit there is the freshness of citrus, apple and slate giving a crisper feel to the finish. Domaine Philippe Chavy Puligny-Montrachet Meursault The fruit on the nose is backed by honeyed sweetness and this gives a rich start to the palate. Apple freshness on the mid palate balances the sweetness but the finish is quite light just lacking a bit of fruit intensity. Puligny-Montrachet Corvées des Vignes Both nose and palate are fresh mineral and apple driven. There is some ripe greengage giving weight in the middle but towards the back the apple and chalk crispness dominate giving a racy feel on the finish. Domaine Françoise et Denis Clair Santenay Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes The nose is quite light with the freshness of mineral and apple lovely and fragrant. Apple vies with greengage the richer greengage giving more weight in the middle but the back palate is lovely and fresh quite light but with lots of fragrances. Tasted at the Leathersellers May Ripe greengage gives richness and depth on the nose and a fleshy start to the palate. The mid sweetness is balanced by an underlying freshness some citrus some crisp apple. The finish has depth of flavour fruit richness. Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Citrus dominates the nose lots of lemon flowers. The sweet fruit that is there at the start of the palate is underpinned by freshness citrus and mineral. There is more weight more richness of flavour towards the back and a good weight of fruit on the finish. Tasted in Dyers Hall January It has filled out on the nose and the fruit on the palate is sweet lots of ripe melon. More of a mineral character in the middle but the sweetness tends to take over and the fruit at the back is beginning to show maturity. Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune Although the nose is light there are some attractive mainly red fruited fragrances. Sweeter mulberry gives some richness in the middle but the back palate and finish are light and fresh fruited. Santenay Clos Genet The raspberry and wild strawberry are fresh and fragrant but quite light. The sweet mix of flavours gives some weight in the middle but the raspberry towards the back refreshes the finish. Santenay 1er Cru Clos de la Comme There is a lot happening on the nose wild strawberry, cherry with richer mulberry. The palate has a nice depth of fruit layers of flavour giving complexity and there is sweetness towards the back enriching.
